I just found your videos & I must say your video was much more truly informative than many from around on here. My wife rides a drive 4 scooter pre 2017 although in Mint condition albeit we think left unused for a while. Stuck some nre batteries in and its been fine for a while now it will stop going over bumps or sometimes on start up. Its been flashkng 1-3 which is acellerator pot fault and now its flashing 2-3 which is mains fault. Ive checked all connections and all fine. I dearly hope the controller isn't knackered. Great Video one of the best mobility scooter repair videos I've seen, great work. 😊
Very interesting video and spot on for the problem I got handed. A friend brought her mum's Monarch Prism to me to have a look at. The first couple of issues were easy - sloppy battery spade terminals and an open circuit brake winding. However, having sorted that lot out it did then throw the occasional 8 flash fault that seems to have gone having gone over every plug/socket pair on the thing. But, like you, I hate the fault that apparently cures itself. They love to come back and bite you later on.
Two useful snippets of information I got from a PDF that seems to have originated with the S-drive manufacturers were 1)The first time the ignition it turned on after the batteries have been removed and replaced into the scooter the controller will give a 8 flash even though there is no fault and 2) contact bounce of the ignition switch on turn-on be it caused by a dicky switch or a dithery hand can also trigger a 8 flash. Both are cleared by a turn off and a clean turn on.
I own a Scooter rental company by Disneyland and get all types of intermittend issues. Most issues are caused by my guests who decide to transport the scooters by their own vehicles. The issue with that is when they drop the scooter to the ground and bend the circuit board inside the controller!
The fastest way to troubleshoot an issue like this - is through process of elimination in my business because I rent these scooters out on a daily basis. I swap out the wire harnesses with known good ones - until I pinpoint the exact area to look for.
In most cases it will be one section in the wiring harness, or the controller. It's good if you have the luxury to have plenty of scooters with the same model as I have, but for others and can be a very ambiguous troubleshooting task ! Youre utube channel is the only one out there that teaches the process correctly on how to troubleshoot a mobility scooter! Thanks 👍 😊

Hi, Thanks for creating these videos, they have been more helpful than anywhere else even though I haven't yet fixed my issue. I have a pride sonic 3-wheeled scooter. It is showing a flash code that points to the throttle potentiometer. I have tested both stopped control and throttle potentiometers and both are fine. the scooter was working fine about 3 months ago but suddenly this is happening. Any help on this will be much appreciated.

Hey Tom, i have a scooter which worked fine one day, but after a night of charging, it wont drive. The horn and all the lights work great but the motor wont do anything. I could get the motor driving a brief second but nothing since then. The brake is fine and the controller seems to be fine too.

@@JeanWallis check all terminal connection the the back end could be a dirty or slack connection
Hi thanks again for another blog,any chance you could do something on clamp meters and testing motor draw,not sure if you have to test the motor under strain,also what clamp meters are needed.happy new year and please don't stop with your blogging
Yep will add a clamp meter into one that had a motor issue. Mind you will need the manufacturer spec in the motor to know if it’s draws too much current
@@tomjacques4 thanks very much,have trouble diagnosing motor faults,unfortunately I have to change a motor to see if that fixes the problem,we don't keep motors in stock 🙄 so have to wait till motor comes in then fit and hopefully it works,if not start all over again 🤣
hi mate Happy New year. a quick question my rascal ventura the tiller is very very wobbly i found the cause. it is as you said when you replied on you other video - Check the location holes on the gas Stroud that adjusts tiller could be worn or slack - THEY ARE VERY VERY SLACK bolts almost falling out!!! MY QUESTION HOW TIGHT DO I TIGHTEN THEM??? as they obviously need to be able to move and should i grease them?? thanks
Check to see if the holes in the gas strut is worn ie not round. You can’t tighten 100% as you say you need to adjust. If the holes if worn then you will need either a copper insert made to measure or a new strut

@@tomjacques4 so i checked and those rods that run horizontal are loose even when i tighten them up. there are 2 of them on this rascal ventura scooter and both rods are loose fitting now probably wear and tear. can i buy those thin rods (inserts) ???
What lights show the flash code.
- tool light flashing?(8 times by the way)
- or the red,yellow, green curved shape lights flashing?

Hi yes you can but won’t make a difference you will need to import software as that’s important otherwise you will damage components
Sure wish you had put a link in where to find Flash Codes. I have an s drive and flashing 3 and 9 at different times. TGA Vita not moving but showing fully charged.
I have a red flashing light where it tells you the battery level. Its usually about 10 orange lights to show battery but now just a single red light. Any ideas

Worked on these Envoys a few times and they are not the best for reliability. Controllers seem to develop intermittent faults very quickly on these . Ive currently got a mint Envoy 8 in which drives perfect for an hour, then will suddenly start flashing 1 flash code for low battery even though it has brand new fully charged batteries fitted. Then it goes back to normal briefly and stops again. So frustrating. Drive arent much help either
Hi check the circuit breaker and all wires to do with the batteries to the controller I have found a few faulty circuit breakers in my time. We do sell them but check wires first. Also ensure that the voltage is not low 1 flash code can be a round 12.4 v or less

Expensive out lay short term but has a longer lifer span than lead acids.
Getting 7 beeps are on never used Pride Alumalite scooter? Have changed speed pot and throttle pot, but it's still doing it? What else could it possibly be?
How do you check if a programmer is working properly? I've got a box full that I picked up (including SP1) with a load of other parts from a mobility shop closing down.

Hi Tom, any idea how to ‘test’ lithium batteries? I know how to do the multimeter/load test on SLA batteries but not sure what I’m looking for on lithium. I have a pair of 10ah lithium batts linked which are reading 29 volts at the charging socket

I have a careco airlite X. It has full battery but scooters green light flashes 5 times but doesn’t move. Break is off etc. User manual has nothing listed under 5 flashes 🤦♀️ can you please help at all?

Hello, I have a Ventura DLX4 Scooter, it has a strange problem, sometimes it is stopped, and when I accelerate forward it does not do so, suddenly it accelerates with a sudden force that is dangerous to hit someone, sometimes it is difficult to start the acceleration . When I try to move backwards he does it with little force and with pushing. A technician changed the drivers, he said that was what he had, but he keeps doing the same thing. Any suggestions or help to repair it. I appreciate it a lot.

I have a careco zoom its working fine but battery gauge shows all light for a second then yellow light flashes 3 times then twice in drive mode the battery is fully charged , when i turn the key off i hear a click from the control box. Thank you
Found the problem some one had been in the tiller head and put wrong wires on gauge terminal.

This is a Jaunt Boot Scooter from Livewell
I accidentally plugged the terminal from the battery to rear Larger Rear terminal Connector and the spark burnt the electrode
I may have have caused some damage to the controller but every thing looks fine
I wonder if the Main Connector needs replacing but would it ghave to be cut off or would I need a complete new Wiring Harness and Battery Harness
How much would that lot cost or if it’s not the harnesses how much is a new controller

I have a Pride Maxima with status led light that flashes constantly any time i turn it on. Also it will no longer recharges, acts as if it does not recognize the charger. Charger does function properly. Any help would be greatly appreciated .

And where on the TGA BREEZE S3 mobility scooter speedometer connect too ? does the wiring for the speedometer go to the motor and the electronic brake at all ? i had to get a new motor with electronic brake and there are only two wire's coming from the motor that both go to the circuit board near the batteries, i'm just wondering if there should be any more than two wire's coming from the motor ?.

Had a motor rebuilt on a rascal every thing works fine ie it goes forward and reverse hi and low but the wigwag is now reversed is it possible that the motor has been rebuilt incorrectly even though its all plug and play ?

Hi. 1 question. How hot temperature must be on motor 8mph mobility scooter. I driving 6 miles and when I touched motor and brakewas hot, not like iron but hot. What temperature is normal for motor / brake 8 mph mobility scooter? Kind regards
Will get warm but should not be hot or have a burning smell 👃

No burning smell, motor working very nice, keep speed 8mph, but batteries indicator show low batteries after 20 miles and hot motor if I drive more than 3 miles. on my Rascal Ventura I fitted brand new 80Ah batteries range must be more than 30 miles on full charge. Scooter was long time in damp garage, maybe problems with wires?
@@tart5331 if you have a laser temp gage then try the temperature of the brake or feel it if it’s very hot 🥵 then you may have an issue

and checked motor themp after 4 miles, motor temp was + 62 c
I’m not sure if your familiar with DRIVE scout 4 scooters. I’ve got one I ordered in October 2017 only used it about 20 times. It works when it wants to. I’m getting 5 beeps and I’m thinking it’s the break or if it’s got a micro switch could be the issue.
I can put it in neutral and get the 5 beeps then put into drive if no error codes then it will work, naturally if I get a code it won’t work.
Got any ideas what the problem is?

Hi mate I’ve got a viper it’s flashing the 6th green all lights working etc I looked at the fault code it states motor volts error, I’ve checked the motor it’s working also says check if paddle is calibrated or short circuit I don’t suppose you may be able to help me please

Just asking for a bit of advice my Care co Zoom mobility scooter has an acquired a bit of noise when I assemble it I get a noise from the rear left wheel it sounds like I have a sticky tyre but have cleaned wheel of stones and looks ok after 3 to 4 mins of riding the noise goes away any help please .Thank you Paul

@@tomjacques4 I took every stone from the back tyres but as the intermitent noise which goes off after 3 mins its me baffled I try and get some video of it for you

No code light.
Half speed, 4mph flat out when it should be 8mph.
Motor and brake getting hot after 5-10 mins test ride even when brake removed off Motor.
Brushes area getting hot.
Brand new batteries.
Good brushes.
26.01v in to controller 24.14 out.
Brake ohlms 33.1.
Continuity in both motor and brake.
When accelerator released 1-2 second delay until back wheels viciously locks up.
Motor seem to get hotter quicker when run on scooter even with brake removed than it does hooked up to direct to another set of 24v batterys.
Cleaned commutator with glassfiber pen.

Half speed is 4mph may be a problem with the half speed switch. . Check wiring. How long you had the scooter. Was it ok before. Is it a 4 pole motor.
@@tomjacques4 hi thanks Tom for your quick reply I only bought the scooter last week for my partner second hand so don't know its history , I thought it was the batteries as they had been in there from new 2016 but problem was the same after installing them, I've watched most of your videos and tested what I could as in my first message, the only things I haven't tested is the throttle and the potentiometer knob on the bars although the speed will increase and decrease when trying the rabbit knob when the scooter is moving
If I put it in low speed it will only do 2mph, yes its a 4 pole motor thanks tom. One other thing is although it only does 4mph full speed it seems very laboured doing it ,Do you think it might of been programmed to do 50% speed ?.

Have a scooter envoy 6 the problem is when I switch on the ignition flashing red continues with no any gap I am not able to count and is not moving the battery shows 12.2 v each
12.2 Volts is too low when fully charged they should be 12.7 or oven 13v

Sure can but expensive. What are you wanting to do. PS there are few different ones # dealer or service engineers or you can get a program for your laptop. Usually training must be done prior to getting the more advanced version.

Usually that would mean motor issue but it depends on what controls are fitted

Hi that product was only sold by quingo themselves. So have not worked on them. You will need to check to see what type of controller is fitted and then speed to quingo or check the owners manual it may let you know.

ive managed to expose the micro swith.
Pressed it .
It clicks as should.
After this the light stopped flashing.
5 TIMES
Yay.
Only when i tried drive.
It made a clicking sound in the control box. Where all cables plug in to.
And light went back to 5 flashes.
Any ideas if the issue

In regards to my 5 flash error.
When ever i try power the scoot
Theres a tick noise coming from the relay on the control board.
That then triggers the 5 flash error.
I can reset this by flicking the micro switch.
Then put key back in and light stays solid. Until ipush power paddle to drive. Tbe relay clicks, status light flashes 5 again.
Can you advise what may possibly be the issue.

I have removed break.
Ive checked the continuity on micro switch along with the motor.
Seems to have continuity , when in drive.
Only breaks when in free wheel, as it should.
Is there any other check with the break i need to perform to see if its bad ?
@@mckjimmy3802 hi remove the brake and send 24 volts though it and see if the disc moves freely

The break was still in lock position whilst on 24v was applied.

Hi the reason is that the controller is made by shoprider themselves and is simple and only used in there products We dealers have a programmer but it’s not the best.

I have a Quingo Plus the warning light is on steadily and Quingo say that's normal. That sounds daft to me.
It depends what model you have some light will stay on to tell you it’s ok. It’s called a status light 💡

Sorry but this is not a mobility scooter that I am aware off. But as you say sounds like a micro switch that is wired back to front check the seat especially the seat post from top to bottom could be some wires there leading to a switch.
Hello Tom, just resubscribed to your channel,I’ve not been very well but getting better now, my wife has a sterling sapphire 2, and it’s suddenly started to work and then not work, it starts to beep quite fast and then gives two slower beeps , do you know what this could mean, hope your well , many thanks 👍👍.
Check all the Anderson connections between the front and the back behind the battery box. they tend to wear or the pins slip of there mounting check for continuity from that to the motor and to the controller

Looks like anything over 5 beeps means "take it to a trustworthy scooter repair service."
Over complex problems speed controller from ebay go much faster
9 flashes and indicators etc. New powerboard by battery. Power off left indicator stays on
