More than a name on a wall is a heart felt song about a mothers son who served in the military and he died and his name was on the wall and it is an emotional song to anyone who lost a child in a war and there name is on that wall
Harold Reid (bass) Don Reid (lead) were the brothers. Lew DeWitt had the most distinctive voice on those high harmonies and rare to see him without playing a guitar in a performance. Phil (sorry can't remember his last name) rounded out this fantastic quartet. Great song. Oh, and theybchose the name Statler from a box of Statler tissues in the record companies office.

Mom’s favorite group. The one “with the deep voice” and the lead singer are actually brothers (but their last name is Reid). The other two were classmates in school. I’m so happy you enjoyed this. Their music brings back very happy memories for me. ❤️❤️
My mom as well. In the 70s she would paint while we were living in Germany my dad was a soldier. My most precious song memories with this group. Thank you. ❤❤❤
Great group! The Statler Brothers were a country music, gospel vocal group formed back in 1955. They also sang as opening act & backup singers for Johnny Cash from 1964-72. Their 2 best known songs are "Flowers On The Wall" & "Bed Of Rose's". Other songs are "Do You Know You Are My Sunshine?", "Elizabeth", "My Only Love", "Too Much On My Heart etc.
These guys are from my dad's hometown of Staunton, Virginia, USA. I play bass and have sat in with Jimmy Fortune who was with the group a little later.
Harold, pretty sure that's his name, is a very funny guy. He loves jokes, being silly and tease the others. Seen it on live performances. Love this group.
It is just the name of the band , but Don and Harold Reid were brothers. Harold is the one that sings bass. My mom and I went to see them in concert many years ago. They are awesome! You can't go wrong with any song that they sing. They are true American treasures.
Beautiful group! I was introduced to them as a child as they were my Daddy's favorite group, played their music in my wedding (My Only Love) back in 1999, and still, at 43 years old, listen to them to this day. They are the best. Can't go wrong with their music.
Oh my gosh, Harri, I am so happy you are reviewing the Statler Brothers! They are one of my favorite-ever groups! My mom was the world's biggest Johnny Cash fan, and the Statler Brothers were a regular part of his show. Please do much more of them! "The Class of '57" is one of the most meaningful songs ever.
If this is your first taste of the Statler Brothers, you are in for a treat. BTW, They retired and played their last concert in 2002. "Whatever Happened to Randolph Scott", "You'll Be Back (Every Night in My Dreams)", "Hello Mary Lou", "Daddy Sang Bass", "Do You Remember These", "The Class of '57", "Flowers on the Wall"
They backed Johnny Cash in the 70s. Try the song Daddy Sang Bass Momma Sang Tenor, The Circle Will Be Unbroken live with Johnny June Cash Stadkers and even Mother Mabel Carter
The Statler Brothers were formed in Staunton , Virginia . From 1964 until 1972 they opened up for Johnny Cash and also were back up singers for him . Johnny was a mentor to them and gave them their big break . They wrote and sang a tribute song to Johnny Cash for being their mentor called “We got paid by Cash “ . I grew up in Virginia and saw the Statler Brothers live quite a few times with my parents . The Statler Brothers always put on a great live show .
I'm from Harrisonburg Va., right down the road and have wonderful memories of free Statler Brother concerts on the 4th of July at Gypsy Hill Park when I was a kid.
You mean to tell me you've never heard of the Statler Brothers? Flowers on the wall don't ring a bell. I am flabbergasted. One of my moms favorite songs was ''The Doodling Song'' . and my Dads was ''This old house'.' Being in construction most of his life i can see why that was his favorite. So many songs , and so little time.
Ah! But you have to remember we only had a single 1 hour programme dedicated to country music on BBC radio in the U.K. in the 1970s! Wally Whyton’s Country Club . I was a weird kid who loved listening to it and was introduced to all sorts of music and performers that my school friends were totally unaware of, but even so I don’t remember the Stadler Brothers. And as for a Harri, he’s too young even for that …..
Harold Reed (bass) and Don Reid (lead tenor) are brothers. They have so many wonderful songs. "More Than A Name on a Wall", "Bed of Roses", "Junkie's Prayer", "That Summer". I have all their albums and they have great songs on each one that never got air time, which is a shame.
I grew up singing the Statlers around the family piano and when my beloved mother who taught us that all songs are love songs passed away, we played the beautiful, slowed down cover of this song by Kelly Hogan at her grave side. Check her version out. In the entire Statler catalog there is only one bad song and that is 'New York City', it's a coward's ballad and I'd love to hear your take on it. Thanks for all you do, including bringing these voices to a new generation.
Elizabeth and some I wrote are 2 of my favorites. I turned in do you remember these for this month since Harri loves the bass so much...will probably ask for Elizabeth next month. ❤
Two of them were brothers, Harold and Don . Harold has passed. They were Country Musics biggest group for many many years Hundreds of awards. Fans around the world. Lew became ill an was replaced with Jimmy Fortune . Many great songs. Flowers on the Wall one of their biggest hits. Back up group to Johnny Cash for 8 years before they went out on their own.
Statlers were big. Even had a TV show. Used to host a "Happy Birthday America" celebration the 4th of July weekend in their hometown of Staunton, Virginia in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Try "Counting Flowers On The Wall" for fun.
Two of them, the bass (Harold Reid) and lead (Don Reid), were actually brothers. Their sons perform as "Wilson Fairchild" and keep their dad's music heritage alive.
This was a great shout, Annie!! I remember watching them on the Mandrell Sister's show, my dad was a huge fan - they're definitely worth a deep dive, Harri, some great suggestions in the comments ❤️
This song speaks to love in the most relatable way. It could be the first time you felt the feeling or the last time you reminisced on a love that has endured. It ranks pretty high on my all time list.
I saw the Statlers live in 1983ish, I wanna say. Enjoyed it very .much. Reba McEntire, who I don't recall you reacting to yet, opened for them. Reba liked to open for the Statlers and also Cknway Twitty when she was getting started....
Harri, you could listen to a different song by The Statler's every day for a year and never repeat yourself! I've been to see them in concert many times and they have always been one of my favorite Country/Gospel groups of all time! Please react to any of the following; "Grandma", "We Got Paid By Cash", "Elizabeth" - well, anything by them is listen-worthy! Thanks for this one! BTW, Don and Harold Reid (the founders of the group) - the lead singer and bass (respectively) are brothers.
it was basically just guys coming together. The one with a very deep voice passed away from cancer about a year ago. But they have many good songs. You should listen to more.
Say the Statler boys with Ronnie Milsap more than a few years back. This one is high on my all time favorite list. And when life called both above, Honey, you’ll know that you’d been loved. That’s some kinda love right there.
The lead singer, Don Reid, and the Bass singer, Harold Reid are brothers. They said when trying to pick a name for their group, a box of tissues names Statler brand was sitting there and decided to use the name. A great song by them is Name on a Wall about names on the Vietnam war memorial wall.

Hey Harri, love your channel. And I want to answer your question about the Statler Brothers. The lead singer and the bass singer ARE brothers. If you really look at them you can see their resemblance. Research them and see how many awards they won back in the day. Love your show 😊
They were voted Country Music Entertainers of the Year for many years and hosted many Country Music Awards shows. Their song Flowers on the Wall was famously featured on the Pulp Fiction soundtrack. They are also very funny, their harmonies are impeccable, and they are truly Country music legends, right up there with Willie and Dolly. Thanx for your reaction.
I saw them in concert years ago. They got their name while sitting in a motel room trying to book a gig, and while on the phone, they were asked, what is your group name? Love the Statler Brothers. They have many hits.
