So Amazing!!! This brings backs so many memories good and bad of 1998!!! I am an ABE... I was in Air/V2... My catapult was Cat 4... Over 10,000 launches during Maiden Deployment... Seen so many things I will never forget!!! Wish I could find footage of when we transited the Suez Canal... Fun times!!! 🤩

ABF V-4 Flight Deck Repair .... If it don't have fuel , it don't fly... if it don't have launch equipment it becomes a submarine ... THAAAAANK you SHIPMATE! Still have my 10,000 launch patch.. and remember running the ditch.... were you up there when that guy planted his face into an f18 elevator ? Yikes! and man I miss that the 14... such a bad bird.... Ill never forget the rock jams the "Roulstone Cowboy" would blast on the 1MC .. starting with "Attention officers and crew of the John C Stennis, this is your Captain speaking. I would like to congratulate you on a job well done and a mission complete. We have trapped our two CODs and the emergency helos are on deck.... Iv been given word from the Admiral.... (click) Engineering Officer of the Watch, this is your Captain... All ahead Australia ... (click).......Engineering officer of the watch, All ahead Australia EYE Sir...... " and BAM. The Animals "We gotta get out of this place" 4 screws into the wind and we were balls to the wall. Standing on the bow with a ship going so fast you could lay on the air at such an angle you could reach down and touch the flight deck ..... pulling in to Pearl manning the rails as he played Neil Diamond "Coming to America" .. which was the most humbling experience of my life standing Starboard side looking at the USS Missouri (where the Japanese has signed the surrender of WWII, that had only arrived there by tow a week before we did) while our shipmates on the Port side were looking at the USS Arizona .. where that all started... ... Leaving Pearl, and doing the ammo off load.. AC/DC, "TNT" ... and when that was finished without announcement.... and every time I hear the song till this day... I miss you all and it takes me back to being a clueless 19 year old kid... .. Motley Crew... "Home Sweet Home"... ....
Notable Mention Jethro Tull "Locomotive Breath" every time we would breakaway from an underway replenishment ... including that one time it wasn't a drill and it was an emergency because some sketchy ass looking "fishing boat" was right in our course while taking on food and grape juice JP5.... during our 46 straight days at sea ....
We should brag a little bit because it cost us a chance to actually see the world , or at least most of the beautiful ports in the Med.... Our speed record STILL STANDS for a carrier, from the mouth of the Chesapeake to the mouth of the Suez. Average speed all the way to gulf 29.4 knots, that included our time in the ditch ..... not bad for a boat with an advertised speed of "30+knots"

Thanks for sharing... You have brought back more memories... Gonna look you up in Cruise book if you are in there... That Around the World Cruise was adventure I will never forget... Will never forget the Stennis my home for over four years... Miss our berthing on 03 level all the way forward in bow... Used to love watching the ocean sitting in bow safety on quiet starry night watching the burning oil wells while we recovered aircraft... Fun times... Hope to do it again on time someday... Lol... 🤩 @@mikesayles6490

Yep, I was on-board on THAT Maiden Voyage Cruise...
I started out mess cranking to Chief's Mess then got back to AIR / V1, FLT DK as a blue shirt later on the cruise ...
So much for the Med. ports, Anthrax vaccs.,
Shellback, AUS / TAZ port visits, etc.

I was mess cranking on the regular mess deck. You lucked out, trust me. Shitty cruise to be sure.

ES-3A Shadow, never understood that much about that plane, other than it being based on the Viking platform.
