    Thank you! It’s been so hard to find info on this program so it’s so great to have someone who went through it explain it

    I wonder if they instituted this program to account for the supposed attrition rate? I rotated through clinics with some individuals who attended SGU for vet school, and one of them told me SGU essentially accepts everyone, but has no problem failing people out along the way. Sounded kind of scary. Maybe they are attempting to rectify that? Dunno.

      Idk. thats been a rumor i get asked alot from prospective applicants, but I found that most of our professors really try to help. At some points I feel like they hold our hands a little too much, but its been great because I've felt really competent in clinicals and now about to graduate. It may have been a thing in the past, but there's definitely more people getting denied seats and longer waitlists now

      @@BrittneyKilgore That's good to hear. I heard it from someone in the SGU class of 2018. According to SGU's website, 84% of people who started there in 2014 (Class of 2018) for vet med graduated. That does seem like a fairly high attrition rate compared to US schools.

      @@doctordarcy8385 People go to the island and hate it. Some people transfer/drop out after term 1 in both the vet and medical program. it's not for everyone. Others have a hard time being away from family/support. I wouldn't blame it all on the school itself but moving overseas and being in an environment different than anything you've ever known is a huge jump while ALSO starting/being in vet school.

    • @doctordarcy8385
      @doctordarcy8385 2 года назад

      @@BrittneyKilgore I'm sure it is not entirely based on the school, but the attrition rate is high, and the NAVLE pass rate is also much lower compared to US schools -- obviously something is not the same. That (coupled with the fact that SGU is a for-profit institution) along with the intense debt load one would have to accrue to go to that type of institution, would give me pause.

    Thank you so much for this informative video! I was a little nervous regarding this foundation program. What would you recommend to keep up with the course works and/or any advice you have for future student who will be attending this program? Thank you in advance!

    • @BrittneyKilgore
      @BrittneyKilgore  3 года назад +1

      Hey! I'd recommend going to all SL's/DES sessions available (you'll learn what those are!). Also, studying by answering learning objectives and by not being afraid to reach out to peers/faculty if you're struggling BEFORE it gets bad lol If you do go to island in January, enjoy it and take advantage! FTV is undergrad rigor, not SVM. It definitely sets you up for the school of vet med, but do enjoy any leniencies in scheduling and such! Because once starting term 1 in the svm, the time and rigor picks up!

    Hi Brittney. Thank you again for your great videos, especially on Grenada and SGU, which were very helpful. I know it's been a while, but any recommendation on the best way to prepare for the PVSCE?

    • @BrittneyKilgore
      @BrittneyKilgore  3 года назад +2

      Hey! Just study how you studied for the final and other major exams. If you passed those, you will DEFINITELY pass the PVSCE. I know it's make or break, but most people who don't pass FTV (which is not many) usuaully don't pass because of failing a course or GPA, not the PVSCE. Study big concepts and big topics. Those are usually what came up! You can message me on Instagram or Facebook if you have any doubts!

    Thank you so much, this is very helpful. As I know this was a video from a few years ago and now that you are in the DVM program would you say foundations really prepared you?

    • @BrittneyKilgore

      I think so and I think it helped acclimate to the island before the stress of term 1. You definitely still need to study in term 1 but it definitely makes the start of vet school smoother.

    Did you finish yours basics in the U.S before going to the foundations or vet school?? I’m really considering St. George but I need to finish my basic college classes. Goal is to be a Wildlife veterinarian

    • @BrittneyKilgore
      @BrittneyKilgore  5 лет назад +1

      Yes, I finished my undergrad degree in the states. I think you can apply for the 5/6 year vet program here. It's for when you still have some requirements. You'd take them here and then matriculate into the DVM program. However, I suggest just getting your first degree bakc home

    Hi Brittney! Thank you for posting about the Foundations Program! I was accepted for August and am considering going! I was curious what you thought of the PVSCE/ if it was difficult or if you thought the exam was fair? I've taken biochem and microbio before so I feel somewhat comfortable with those subjects but never had to take anatomy or physiology for my undergrad!

    • @BrittneyKilgore
      @BrittneyKilgore  6 лет назад

      It's pretty fair. Each professor submits his own questions for the PVSCE so they're very similar to other exams from the semester; some questions may even be a repeat. Physio and anatomy is alot of material, but it introduces it at a steady pace.

      Hi. Just fall and spring. SGU doesn't have a summer start date (Ross does though). Also, we've been online since March 2020. The plan is to be back in person in August this year (2021) but it hasn't been announced if it'll be a full return, optional return, or only certain terms.

    if you apply to start in january instead of september and get put in the foundation program does that mean you do the foundation program in january and then move on to the DVM degree the next september term? Or is foundation term only offered August-December?

    • @BrittneyKilgore
      @BrittneyKilgore  5 лет назад

      Nope its offered both terms. You'd do foundations during the spring and start term 1 of the DVM program in the fall
