Really enjoy the films where you give a commentary on what you are doing, and as a Scot it's good to see you shearing Shetland sheep. Greetings from Aberden, Scotland 🏴
I truly love when you do real time and do a voice over! It's my favorite videos!!! I love how you describe the sheep "wiggles" to get comfy!!!! PLEASE DO MORE!!!!
I MUCH prefer voice overs! Real time is great, but as long as there’s a voice over. I’d love to learn more about the different breeds of sheep, like the history of the Shetland breed and such.
❤ your videos don't care if they are short or long (long preferred), commentary is great & Love learning about the different varieties of sheep breeds and their wool.Keep up the good work and more videos. Please lots and lots of videos.I know you have very little time for doing this because you're probably really, really busy sharing sheep
We need another LONG video where you have many alpaca, llama, and/or sheep to shear. You're just too quick and it's over before we know it. lolol I'll bet those animals just love the breeze on their skin once the fleece is off of them. Until next time, stay safe and well to both of you.
Ive got some in the works. This whole month or so is my older content that was originally on TT. It works well as uploads while Im over seas here at the Golden Shears, but when I get back, Ill start on all the fresh stuff and even have some Scottish shearing coming yalls way!
Lol oops I have been practicing turning lambs on their butts some are bigger lambs I kinda tried with the larger sheep and I definitely need more practice with the babies And well they are getting practice too so when they do need it they can be more used to it I'm doing well I'm going to keep practicing :)
Its like when my cat leads me to things he wants. XD Also now that I bought a fleece straight from the sheep I understand a little bit of what you're saying. So those teeny tussocks I keep throwing out are second cuts, and the extremely coarse bits I'm turning into rug yarn are from the belly. They are light grey, and the fleece slowly turns from light grey at the bottom to grey, to black with some sun lightened brown tips at the top. I didn't throw away what I could salvage of the coarse bits because they looked like they could take the coreopsis flower dye I was working with. And I was right. The sheep also has SOME locks in its fleece whoever he or she was. I didn't know that you needed to find out if the fleece was skirted or not and had to do that messy bit by hand. Its pouring outside right now though, and I have a tar beach roof, so I laid out the remaining unwashed fleece to get a rinsing in the rain.
Usually sheep are shorn once a year. Some farmers like to get their sheep shorn every 6 months. I guess it just depends on what breed of sheep you have and what the wool is going to be used to make once it's off the sheep. Wool can be different strengths depending on length, thickness of each individual fibre and how many crimps (waves or zigzags) there are in it. Look up "Merino" breed of sheep to find information on what fleece is used to make most clothes (socks, scarves, jumpers, thermals). If you want to see a freaky picture look up "the big merino, Goulburn" its a large sculpture of a Merino ram that contains a shop that sells everything made from Merino wool including soft toys, blankets and doonas/comforters. The statue was originally designed to celebrate how much of the surrounding area was financially successful due to being ideal growing conditions to make superfine Merino wool.
Just leaving a second message to say I subscribed to your channel and saved a couple of the playlists you created as I'm learning crochet and knitting. I first learnt both knitting and crochet as a teenager In the 1990's (we didn't have TV and I got bored with reading). Blessings, Dot
Neps! I’m not sure what other regions call those little balls if short fiber. Slubs are fiber that doesn’t draft out. Usually I blame vm for it. Shetland is my absolute favorite sheep breed.
Thank you for mentioning why belly wool gets discarded. I nevr really knew why and just supposed it was because it was extra dirty/mussed from being laid on all the time, but that seemed like a weird reason since wool gets cleaned so I figured there had to be something else involved. Now I know!
Wow ! Your story and work is inspiring me ! I send you my best wish from Switzerland, much love and have a great continuation, the life is beautiful when shared
Those little second cuts in a handspinners' fleece become nepps in the yarn (fun vocab word for the day), and they suck, so thank you for avoiding them!
The other animals always have to check em out after the cut like they don't recognize them. Or maybe they are just telling them "dude you are naked now"
You could send me that belly cut since they're just going to throw it away anyway. Hell I would even pay them if they would send it to me all of their belly cuts and all of the stuff that they don't use, please just let me know and I'll give them my address I'll even send them money first
How cute. You got your own personal escort 😂❤
Omg, so cute how they go and give Darian a personal escort. ❤
That was seriously adorable af

NICE! Thank you for explaining why you want to avoid second cuts. I was about to ask too lol

Hand spinner here, thank you for your shearing videos and the care you take.💛
I love watching you both. I also love the way you sprinkle information into your your work.
You are so interesting. I do watch other shearers, but you deliver your voice-overs with the right amount of information and humor!
Such a cutie pie 🥧! Sharp pie that is. AC might of been nice, but I think Darian prefers you in one piece. 😹 ✨✂️✨
I think so too!😂

Her little tail! 🥰
i just need like a one hour compilation of you shearing sheep
You bare so efficient, yes we hate second cuts, but we can also dehair carefully !
You are so good at what you do. How long does it take for the sheep to grow all that back?

@@dotcassilles1488 very interesting. Thanks.
Their tails crack me up 😂
That was very informative. It explains why some ridges are left. Thx.

Love watching you shear, but you also spin a good yarn. 😊
How kind of the sheep to give you some variety in your wardrobe :)
Awwws and awesome ❤❤ love to watch y'all ❤
You are SHEAR PERFECTION!!! 👍👏💯
Adorable ❤
so awesome your care and recognition of pretty girls leading lol
How often do you have to sharpen your clippers? I’d imagine all that wool is hell on them
Question… are sheep the only species the has all the fur/fiber grow to the exact same length?
That was so cute 🥰
Way too. Cute! I wish I could give her a treat.
Do you keep the wool as a payment
The ripped pants are better than ripped skin..great job
✨♥️
I think you are cool and thanks for teaching me different things about sheep
