The Christmastide piece Hodie Christus natus est (Latin for "Today Christ is born"), arranged by Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck. Sung buy Voices of Ascension. Score from cpdl
Man did this take me back, all the way to 1973 or 74 singing this in my high school concert choir. Still recall our director drilling us on proper enunciation of Exaultant Justi. among the rest of the Latin. I am so glad for the classical music I was exposed to in my public education Everyone needs to fight for fine arts education n their schools. Wonderful recording and thanks for including the sheet music.
Love seeing the sheet music again, it enhances my appreciation for the harmonies and counterpoint. How the phrases overlap among the voices. I sang this in concert choir my freshman year of college. It was January 1986 and we toured central Europe performing in many beautiful spaces, the kinds of churches this music was probably written for. What a privilege and delight.
I conducted this many years ago as a grad student at the University of Memphis. I am pretty sure it sealed the deal for my part time job with the Diocese of Memphis -- I conducted at a concert at the cathedral - smile. Such wonderful memories of a wonderful piece of music.
Haven't seen this music since I gave my copy to the choir director in high school. When we found out we qualified to compete at the Worlds Fair in Spokane, Wa he chose THIS song (to my delight) We practiced for months, and we came in 2nd in the World! My 15 mins of fame? Lol. I m So happy to find this song and sheet music. This was a difficult piece to get everybody timed right and on key! Thank you for posting. You made my week happy!
I like this so much, I listened to it 3 times so far. I like the key you sing it in, not too high for me. Want to get my family ensemble to do it. I wish. Thanks for the beautiful recording and score. very nice.

I learned this in school too, but I did it around 2010-12ish, but I learned unisono (can't recall why)
Me too I sang this at school , at Hymers College in the 60s . It has been in my mind and soul ever since.
Sweelinck
This was a top 10 hit for Sweelinck back 400 years ago ... and some of us are still enjoying it!

I'm sure that time signature isn't correct........
Awesome choir! Check out the lovely singing tone (including the sexy counter tenors!)

I really appreciate my high school teacher, Nandra Talton introducing us to this music and making us work so hard at Fletcher High School.

@Lianna Pfister - Yep! 👍
Great. A little bit too fast I think
I've gotta sing this tomorrow and have no clue. I keep getting lost.
@Olivia Swann - Hang in there - you can do this!
