@@ricktheitalianrebel6687 Even with Bon Scott, AC/DC had their first major commercial breakthrough with Highway to Hell in 1979 and despite he and his band mates reputation as hard-partying, but good-natured pranksters, becoming a successful rock band especially on the long, hard road it took from mid--70s to 1979 to break through requires a lot of hard work, emotional and physical exhaustion, many days and nights with limited amount of sleep or no sleep at all, and oh, BTW, there's always the spector of hard drugs, alcoholism and groupies threatening your group's future and in-band cohesion and continuity. AC/DC even wrote a song about the perils awaiting new bands as they try and climb that elusive, ever-changimg sometimes maddening pursuit of success and not just in music but in other, larger entertainment industries like Hollywood or Broadway plays.
I am 64, too and still listen to AC/DC, especially Bon Scott. Rock 'n Roll will never die! I love these music 60 an 70 decades and 80 were also good. I've seen a lot of concerts and Bands, unfortunately not AC/DC with Bon Scott.
Angus Young about KISS : ,, At the beginning our career, we had big problems to go on tour. The Headliners says everytime: Kick them out. .......But Gene Simmons saw our potential and helped us to get bigger Shows ....That was our carreer start.
@@michaelleonetti8564 Even more bands than that. And while he was a douche, he didn't treat the opening acts like a douche would treat them. He made sure they had every chance to fail or succeed, and didn't ever act like he was above them. Just watch some interviews with the guys from Cinderella and Slaughter - both of whom got their big breaks after being discovered by Gene.
Gene Simmons enjoys helping young and new talent to this day, and he feels actual sympathy for any rock band trying to make it big now (because they ultimately cannot).
Rush tells the same story. KISS, Rush, and AC/DC all have a similar story ... their show hit so hard that headliners didn't want to follow them. So they did things like limit stage space, limit soundcheck time, limit volume, limit stage props (that would kill KISS), etc. KISS pledged not to be dicks like that. Plus, with their explosions and huge special effects, they weren't worried about being upstaged. So they took bands like Rush and AC/DC that other bands didn't want to tour with because of how good they were, and KISS wanted those bands to open. KISS was very cool to them, too.
His voice is so unique. The tone of his singing is right there in his speaking voice. I know that seems silly but some people don't sound the same talking as they do singing, but he does.
Just love this footage. BS was such a beauty! He looks so exhausted here, but he's still got that impish grin and sense of humor. God bless him, they were the real deal with him, it was a perfect fit. Powerage and Highway to Hell were such great records. That was their peak. Back in Black sold a ton, but it's never been the same since Bon died. Miss you Bon, you were one of a kind brother.
Agree completely. Back in Black wasn't bad, but it wasn't nearly as good. A shame Bon left us so early. Several great albums that we never got to hear.
kiss= great ac-dc=great rush =great. The who = great motorhead, kinks, mc5, stooges...they are all great. rock and roll is bigger than the number of chords in a song.
Uanderson Brittes 100% correct sir. Thank you for clearing that up for all the cock-measurers that keep crying about who’s better than whom. Rock on! 🤘🏻
+Time Agreed. When Bon Scott died it was a massive blow. I always prefer ACDC with Bon Scott fronting. But ACDC have always been still my fave Rock Band,...
+Time No doubt he loved his band...but by all accounts, Malcolm was the one who ran the band...with a somewhat of a passive iron fist, I might add. Which kind of took me by surprise too. I'm sure Bon would have no problem verifying that if he were able. Check out Mark Evans' book: 'Dirty Deeds'... EVERYTHING regarding AC/DC had to go through Malcolm...and older brother George to a lesser extent.
+seamus2112ophelan Seems like AC/DC is at an end. Brian Johnson did an admirable job filling in for Bon Scott (whom I still prefer vocally, but Brian did a good job nonetheless). Malcom is gone, and now Brian is gone. I refuse to listen to anything that douchenozzle Axl Rose sings.
Also, Gene Simmons was and is a narcissistic asshole. When you're a narcissistic prick and you're famous, you're going to garner a lot of hate and right so. That's just the way it is. I agree there's no need for any hate here but Gene ruined that possibility by being a narcissistic douche.
@Mark Cianfarani I didn't know about the Kramer deal, that is bullshit! A band is all members, not just the popular ones,I know people who won't listen to a bands music when they do shit like that but I love the toys in the attic and Rocks albums and I'll never stop listening to them, you're so right tho about the drugs and alcohol,I remember when they put out the live bootleg album way back and I thought they sounded like crap live, never tried to see them after that.
I was one of the fortunate ones that got to see KISS with special guests, AC/DC, Dec. 9 1977 at the Mid-South Coliseum. For many of us there, it was our first exposure to AC/DC. The next day, Pop Tunes and Peaches had a run on AC/DC records.
He's asking "Coral" Browning off camera, part time publicist for the band and sister of their manager Michael Browning, if she knows his name. Kiss is, was and always will be a meaningless fun party band in Australia compared to Bon era AC/DC.
I'm from Melbourne Australia and he spent a few years here as a child. Sometimes I drive past the street he lived in the suburb of Sunshine as I'm not far away but no one seems to know which house was his.
I saw Gene Simmons interviewed on what I believe was some small local or public access channel, about thirty years ago. The host was a rabid KISS fan, he asked (More like stated, but presented as a question.) If Gene Simmons thought it was safe to say that KISS was "The greatest band that ever was or would be". And that its members were the greatest musicians who ever lived or would live. Gene Simmons looked at him like he had lobsters crawling out of his ears and said "We're second, maybe third rate musicians but we're first-rate entertainers, we know what our fans want and we give it to them".
What an adorable guy. I remember the moment I was sitting listening to my folks' radio here in Seattle the morning he'd died... I was heartbroken. I wonder what he was gonna say about Gene... Hahaha...
Allot people never mention this but Bon wrote incredible lyrics! You can tell after the Back n Black LP how it died since he wrote the best songs on that LP as well.
Bon was just the coolest guy in town - loved music, loved people. Him and Brian both added so much to AC/DC "You might not have heard of Rush" - shows this was done pretty early!
He was cool and likeable. But he was also a bad alcoholic and when he got drunk he was very confrontational and quick to fight and agress people. AC/DC states that more than once. His driking made him a jekyll and hyde personality and it was supposedly very scary.
I cannot agree with this. Bon was loaded much of his life, and there have been plenty of times when I've scratched an ich with my middle finger or did something like he did there and commented about something because I'm trying to remember a name. I don't think he gave a back-handed complement to Kiss... Sometimes a cigar is a cigar without a hidden meaning. I would have liked to see and hear the entire interview and know if Rush was mentioned more.
In Mark Evans book he said that AC/DC went to see Kiss and thought they were entertaining but terrible musicians. Bon is quite diplomatic here but we can't tell what he really thought of them on a surface level.
Bon was the epitome of the perfect Rock Star. He had it all, the voice, the attitude, his cool, sex appeal, charisma, everything. Phil Lynnot was another example. Malcolm Young created the opportunity for a front man to be a God. It's a small miracle that AC-DC found a replacement in Brian Johnson who you could say had a vocal that managed to keep the music going. Brian never forgot the responsibility he had to play it straight and respect the boots he had to fill. Both gifted, Brian never tried to out do the legend who was the Fit and style of Bon.
I was on that tour at Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, Indiana in December 1977. I was in the Army stationed there and went to see KISS. Little did I know that AC/DC would change how I viewed Rock N Roll. The interaction when they performed on stage with us in the audience with Bon and Angus was insane and I'm still listening 47 years later blasting their music.
I didn't see anywhere in this interview where Bon Scott was comparing himself, or AC/DC or Rush or Kiss to one another yet people turn this interview into some big debate over "who is better" of course, because everyone likes to "be right" with their opinion that they have picked "thee best band" in their infinite wisdom and vast musical knowledge and experience. Whatever. Happy Birthday Bon Scott, your life and this interview were both sadly too short, thanks for the music.
tubeskid 100% agreed correct and true. This is not about Bon comparing himself or AC/DC with anyone. People who go down that line shouild realise that is NOT Rock and Roll! Also more importantly nobody asks where is the rest of the interview?! It cuts off when it is only about to get interesting!
Imagine (any combo) of those bands with AC/DC…. UFO, Rush, Kiss… my god those were great times for hard rock and metal music. I was too young to see Bon era AC/DC but soooo lucky to see all those bands in the 80’s and 90’s.
RemToonGuy I'm pretty sure that he said "mightn't have heard of them." As in he doubts that the interviewer has heard of Rush, and the interviewer confirms that he hasn't.
john morris I’ve always maintained that prior to 1981’s breakout “ Moving Pictures” album Rush were primarily a cult band. They had a following of course but were not known on a global level especially by the average person who wasn’t a rock fan so to speak. One had to be “ in the know” to have heard about Rush especially during the 1970’s.
As of this interview, AC/DC was presumably scheduled as a supporting act for the Destroyer Tour 1977, with KISS headlining. Rush had just completed their Mercury/PolyGram album 2112, as Scott and the Young brothers were starting work on song material for the Albert album Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap (released internationally by Atco/Warner with different cover art).

Ya I’m a bit older than you, I was a Senior in HS when Bon died. The HS I went to had a radio station the only one in the area I grew up in outside Chicago. Now u KNOW I was all over that! Lol! I had a weekly show where I played every form of rock n blues, deep cuts as the radio was so NOT diversified! I’d play punk, ska, metal, hard rock all of it! If it was good I played it!Like I said no AC/DC on yet! I’m gonna brag now lol, I played the hell outta them first. And for one of the few female DJs having a rock show was cool! The professional stations used to scan all college/HS stations to see what the scene was, then they’d add popular bands. Lotta politics back then n fear of the FCC! Anyway, when Bon passed I actually cried! I dedicated an entire 4hr show, uninterrupted to AC/DC. My salute to the man! I got so many calls of thanks it was awesome. They were on Chicago rock stations by that time. Wow we had 2! In today’s terms that’s insane lol! We supplied our own albums too! I was so dedicated to opening up radio and giving exposure to how stupid all the categorizing was! I got a fast food job and spent all my $ on albums lol! Still won’t touch ketchup to this day! Anyways, music and live shows was all I did, still do! Sadly the rock clubs have dwindled...something I hope changes. After all the shows I’ve seen top 5 includes early AC/DC! Thanks for the good words! You seem like an awesome guy!

Rock 'n Roll will never die!
I love these music 60 an 70 decades and 80 were also good. I've seen a lot of concerts and Bands, unfortunately not AC/DC with Bon Scott.
Never heard him talking, I love seeing him smiling and seems to be a man, who likes to be authentic, joyful and has humour too.
Angus Young about KISS : ,, At the beginning our career, we had big problems to go on tour.
The Headliners says everytime: Kick them out.
.......But Gene Simmons saw our potential and helped us to get bigger Shows ....That was our carreer start.
And did the same for rush n van Halen he might be a douche but he knows talent
@@mrgmusicclass Do you know if there is a photo of Kiss & Acdc together ? ..... i never see a photo of them together .....

His voice is so unique. The tone of his singing is right there in his speaking voice. I know that seems silly but some people don't sound the same talking as they do singing, but he does.
He talks exactly the way he sings. The singing voice and his talking voice is the same. Wow. RIP
I love how his eyes widen when he says Rush. You can tell he was impressed by them.
Just love this footage. BS was such a beauty! He looks so exhausted here, but he's still got that impish grin and sense of humor. Back in Black sold a ton, but it's never been the same since Bon died. Miss you Bon, you were one of a kind brother.
Agree completely. Back in Black wasn't bad, but it wasn't nearly as good. A shame Bon left us so early. Several great albums that we never got to hear.

Carl Symons of course
Love Bon Scott 'subtly' giving Kiss the middle finger :-D
He was AC/DC, he absolutely ran and loved that band.

I was one of the fortunate ones that got to see KISS with special guests, AC/DC, Dec. 9 1977 at the Mid-South Coliseum. For many of us there, it was our first exposure to AC/DC. The next day, Pop Tunes and Peaches had a run on AC/DC records.
The guy from KISS..."Carl?"
CARL?
"carl" is the cameraman. Bon is asking him if he can recall the name of the bassist.
He's asking "Coral" Browning off camera, part time publicist for the band and sister of their manager Michael Browning, if she knows his name. Kiss is, was and always will be a meaningless fun party band in Australia compared to Bon era AC/DC.
😂😂😂

I'm from Melbourne Australia and he spent a few years here as a child. Sometimes I drive past the street he lived in the suburb of Sunshine as I'm not far away but no one seems to know which house was his.
He has that mischievous look in his eyes that only a Scotsman could have. Such a legend. Brilliant singer in a brilliant band. Cheers.
Doesn't sound much like a Scotsman

Jajajajaja, you all right.
Probably not.
When you get right down to it, that's about as much respect as Gene deserves...
Yup
What an adorable guy. I remember the moment I was sitting listening to my folks' radio here in Seattle the morning he'd died... I was heartbroken. I wonder what he was gonna say about Gene... Hahaha...
Allot people never mention this but Bon wrote incredible lyrics! You can tell after the Back n Black LP how it died since he wrote the best songs on that LP as well.
he did indeed
True! And Brian Johnson does NOT write lyrics for AC/DC. Heck, Brian doesn’t even use his Natural Voice either!
I knew this too - you and I are awesome!!!
After BIB, AC/DC's songs became somewhat more repetitive than usual.
@@Blueagle8u He had an awesome voice when he sang with Geordie, why he had to change it to that whip smack sounding voice ? i do not know.

Bon actually really liked RUSH. They didn't party hard like most Rock bands at the Time!
Carl was his name lol
It seemed like he wasn’t making fun of kiss he just legitimately forgot genes name
that is beautiful. gotta love candid moments like this.
Bon was just the coolest guy in town - loved music, loved people. Him and Brian both added so much to AC/DC
"You might not have heard of Rush" - shows this was done pretty early!
He was cool and likeable. But he was also a bad alcoholic and when he got drunk he was very confrontational and quick to fight and agress people. AC/DC states that more than once. His driking made him a jekyll and hyde personality and it was supposedly very scary.
Bon Scott! The Original lead singer of AC/DC!!!
Brian is better!
Legend from over 40 years ago talks about going on tour with 3 other bands that will all become legends themselves.
I love how he gives the finger when KISS is mentioned and "doesn't remember" the bass player's name. Ol' Chaim musta loved that. RBS FOREVER!
Bon always flips off the interviewer.
In Mark Evans book he said that AC/DC went to see Kiss and thought they were entertaining but terrible musicians. Bon is quite diplomatic here but we can't tell what he really thought of them on a surface level.
When I was 11-12, I was playing air guitar banging my head driving my dad crazy with If You Want Blood live album ...
I saw AC/DC open up for KISS on that tour in 1977, my first concert! Awesome concert!
Kiss took rush on tour to open up in 74,,, then took acdc on tour with them in 77 to open up in the usa and canada giving them much exposure
Bon Scott... the real soul of AC DC !
Nah. All the good songs are by the other guy.
Bon was the epitome of the perfect Rock Star.
He had it all, the voice, the attitude, his cool, sex
appeal, charisma, everything.
One of the most charming people that ever lived ROCK ON SUCKA
His voice with Angus young's guitar was one of Rocks great combinations.

What a sweet gentle man! RIP

RemToonGuy I'm pretty sure that he said "mightn't have heard of them." As in he doubts that the interviewer has heard of Rush, and the interviewer confirms that he hasn't.
Back in 1977 Rush was not this big band that they became in 1981 with Moving Pictures.
Exactly right. 1977 was the Farewell to Kings tour, and they played the Warner Theatre here in DC. I'd love to see them in such a small venue now.
john morris 2112 was their breakthrough
john morris I’ve always maintained that prior to 1981’s breakout “ Moving Pictures” album Rush were primarily a cult band.
The Trees by Rush is so relevant today if you listen to the story they tell. On the album I love how Brunes Bain and Trees mix-the best 3 piece ever
actually "a farewell to kings" would have been the album rush released. 2112 was in 1976, followed by "all the worlds a stage" live album.
He had a hat on.
