  • Autistic characters in film and TV (headcanons). I love thinking about which characters could be identified as autistic, just for fun so I made a video exploring some of my favourites.

Hi I'm Purple Ella and my family is an autism family with three out of five of us on the autistic spectrum. I also have ADHD and connective tissue disorder (hypermobile Ehlers-danlos syndrome). So life can be a challenge but also a lot of fun.

A lot of people headcanon Elsa from Disney's Frozen as autistic. I also think Anna from Frozen could be as well. Anna infodumps, is awkward, tries to avoid eye contact, and even stims by clapping, arm movements, and playing with her hands.

Vanellope from Wreck it Ralph! She feels like an outsider and doesn’t fit in with the other characters in her game. She gets along with Ralph because they are both different. She dresses in her own style and speaks her mind and doesn’t follow the same social expectations as everyone else. Her ‘glitch’ makes her life even harder, but she learns to accept and love it as a part of herself. And her special interest is racing.

I saw her glitches as tics, which still happens in autism

In my mind Hermione from the Harry Potter series was always on the spectrum.
Her strong sense of justice, the way she is so good at keeping and how focused she is on academic knowledge, but also that she sometimes doesn't read people right (like for example when she knits the house elves hats to "free" them but has difficulties understanding that they don't want to be freed). She also is really good at seeing the details (the trapdoor under fluffy).
She also sometimes seems to infodump on her friends too and, before befriending Harry and Ron, has a hard time fitting in and making friends.
Ron, I am not sure. While someone said he has the emotional intelligence of a teaspoon, he seems more practised when it comes to social interaction.
He has however very specific interests (collecting choco frog cards, quidditch, action dolls)...however he is also able to get through school without learning for it, while working with faulty or broken equipment. ND or not he must be pretty smart and skilled... pretty impressive in that regard....probably very frustrating for teachers or Hermione though, because he's not interested in school work enough to perform to his fullest potential. 😅
I kinda like the thought of them being a ND power couple. 😆
    Mainly Hermione though.

And there is the "sensetive hearing" thing. Renember the "no wonder she doesn't have any friends" shene? Ron wisperered it but Hermione could hear it clearly and cried for a long time afterwarts. Harry also stated that she didn't want to come out from the toilet.
And i do agree that Hermione foccuses on detail. She is the first to notace that Harry's glases got broken and that there was dirt on Rons nose.
And there is of course "it's leviOsa not leviosA"

Matt Smith's Doctor in Doctor Who. Came along as I was starting to realise I may be on the spectrum, and I saw a lot of common traits in him. Not quite understanding things around him, misinterpretations of requests, attention being either all over the place or hyper focused on something, oblivious at times. I know the Doctor is an alien, but sometimes he feelsa little too human, and Eleven felt "alien".

    • @Silverwind87
      @Silverwind87 2 года назад +2

I think the Doctor in general can be interpreted as on the spectrum. We got Tennant's Doctor accidentally being rude, Capaldi's Doctor needing help from Clara in social situations, Tom Baker's Doctor sometimes acted childish because "there's no point in being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes!" The Doctor’s just inherently an odd, socially awkward person, even by his own race's standards. He may not be human, but he's definitely autism coded.

The part on grief hitting a person differently really resounds with me. On more than one occasion, when I've been told (or realize) that the end is close, I'm actually more sad than after I hear they died. Even with ones very close to me.
I don't know why that is. It's bothered me in the past, because I knew it wasn't normal. I wondered why, if I just didn't feel as strongly as I thought I did.

I think Medix from transformers: rescue bots academy is autistic. He has trouble not speaking in a monotone voice, often takes everything literally, has an extreme amount of information about his special interest, and once he starts talking about it it's hard to get him to stop, he has a plan for exactly what he should do in every possible situation, and has trouble understanding his class mates. I found him to be extremely relatable even before I knew I had autism I knew there was something different about me and I loved Medix because I felt like what every made me different also made him different, and watching what he did to overcome those differences, and seeing how his class mates saw him helped me better understand myself other people and how to better communicate with others.

Oh, I'm sure I'm much older than you, but I'm delighted to play with head canon. Just as long as nobody takes any of it seriously.
I've often been intrigued with the character of Dr. Gregory House portrayed by Hugh Laurie on the American hospital diagnosis mystery series "House." He often comes off as extremely abrupt and casually cruel with other people's emotions, but he's undoubtedly the smartest person in the room which is how he keeps his job despite his general inability to get along with anybody.

I would say commander Data from Star Trek Next Generation. Very logical, direct, does not show and cannot read emotions and is very literal. For example an engineer is given a complex task and responds "We will have to burn the midnight oil" Data replies "it would be inadvisable to ignite a flammable liquid late at night" They then have a discussion about the phrase not the engineering problem.

She talks a lot in ecolalia in the show and randomly says a lot of facts and figures. Roy Cropper from Coronation Street - Awkward, social outcast who gains love and respect as people get to know him, special interests, pragmatic, honest, doesn't conform to popular beliefs and traditions.
Keith Barrett from Marion and Geoff - Honest, easily manipulated by others, always sees the best in people and situations, dark sense of humour, gets the wrong idea when people aren't clear about things, rehearsal of lines for upcoming and stressful interactions, oblivious to how his intended harmless comments may come across to others, great memory for details and events that he's probably gone over in his mind countless times.

All of these are from Pokémon (it's my main special interest so...yeah...). I'll list where each of them comes from too.
Goh (Journeys anime (THIS CHILD IS SO RELATABLE FOR ME I CAN'T EVEN START DESCRIBING HIM BECAUSE I'D BE HERE ALL DAY!!!))
    N (Gen 5 games)
    Diamond (Pokémon Adventures manga)
Pearl (Pokémon Adventures manga (THE OTHER MOST RELATABLE CHARACTER FOR ME!!!))
    Platinum (Pokémon Adventures manga)
    Black (Pokémon Adventures manga)
Bonus ADHD headcanon: Barry (Gen 4 rival character, appears in both the DP anime and the Sinnoh games)

Another character that could possibly autistic is Silver the Hedgehog.
He already has those personality traits such as taking stuff too litterly, being socially aquard, struggeling with informal conforsations (Sonic Rivals), notaced in Sonic 06 he doesn't always look peaple straight in the eye and his personality profile also stated that he takes anger loudly and can't tell a single lie. He also has a higher sense of justice. (It is litterly stated that it goes deeper hen just saving the future)
Also in the IDW comics there are also parts where Silver panics as soon things go differendly as expected.
Another typical trait is a extreme opsession/intrest which is in Silver's case with nature. He litterly gets a "WOW" reaction as soon he sees a field with flowers like a 18 year old girl at a BTS concert.
And he is of course known for repeating the same stuff all over. At least it. Explainains why he says randomly "IT'S NO USE!" all over in the most annoying boss battle ever.
Also wouldn't be suprised if his psysic/telepathic powers would somethimes could cause meltdowns.
I am on the spectrum by myself and after i saw his personality profile i did recognise some things from myself in him. So i kinda thought why not?
As for Silver i might want to add some things i struggle with in daily life so it will be realistic and not the steriotypial Sheldon Autism.

London Tipton from Suite Life. This is going to be a controversial take, so bear with me:
    - Yes. autistic people can be loud. We can often be unaware of how obnoxious we can appear to others
    - London's special interest is fashion. She likes to wear designer clothes, but her fashion sense is very much her own.
    - London can be very literal minded. When she was staying with Maddie and was told to "strip and make the bed", having no experience doing her own housekeeping, she defaulted to the only sense of the word "strip" she knew, and started removing her clothes (fortunately Maddie stopped her before she embarrassed herself
    - There have been many hints that shes not actually unintelligent and her sideways thinking has often proven invaluable.
    - She doesn't really relate to her pee group, and her real friends are those who don't care that she's rich or that she can be obnoxious and appreciate her for who she is
    - She struggles in school not because she's unintelligent, but because it simply holds no interest for her

    House from
    House m.d
He doesn't read the room very well so to speak
He doesn't seem to know when he's hurt a person's feelings
    doesn't think before speaking
a lot of people who see the show see his
    behavior as inappropriate or unprofessional
    But he has moments when
    He shows his soft side
    Just not very often
When he does open up it's very profound and moving he's not very good at expressing himself in the typical since
But has a lot to say

Another character i think that is autistic might be Tecna from winx. Why?
She struggles with expressing emothions and talks in a montone voice and if she shows emothions then they are quite intense.
She only thinks in logic almost in a Vulcan like way.
She struggles with basic things as shown with season 1 when she had to clean the school.
She is opsessed with technology (even for a fairy of technology)
    She is highly inteligent.
    She is good at details.
She also tend to have struggles with loud noise which was shown in season 6.
