Rambam's Letter To Converts

  • Rabbi Yaron Reuven discusses the question of whether a convert to Judaism can say the blessing "Shehecheyanu," which acknowledges that HaShem made them alive. He explains that the Rambam (Maimonides) believed a convert shouldn't say it because they weren't born Jewish. However, the Rambam also emphasized the great merit of a convert choosing to serve HaShem.
    Rabbi Reuven emphasizes that a true convert changes their eternity and deserves immense love and respect. He connects this to a story of a man who tried converting for 14 years but didn't succeed until after he gave a generous donation to a cause. This illustrates the concept that sometimes a person lacks the merit to perform a good deed, but when they gain that merit, they can accomplish things they couldn't before.

    One of my dearest friends is a convert. He has more righteousness in his fingernails as a Jew by choice than I've had in my entire existence, as a Jew by birth. I admire him, but can't help but feel ashamed sometimes. I have unending respect for gerim.

    Wonderful story. Converting is such a big decision. Has to be done for the right reason and to know all the facts. I believe Hashem must lead.

    I wish he wrote this for me. He loved creating new souls. He knew it counted, as if by the mouth of G-d Himself. I learned that from you Rabbi. And so he became a Spiritual Luminary high in the heavens above Shamayim for all to see BH

    I thought if a gentile converts to Judaism ✡️ there faith is Judaism but there ethnicity stays the same. I didn’t know that if you convert to Judaism that, that makes you a Jew. I thought Jew was ethnicity ( like by blood) no matter what religion u may follow( like a Jew can also be secular)

    • @Bittzen
      @Bittzen Год назад +2

      "Faith is Judaism but ethnicity stays the same" that's if someone is a Ben Noach. Technically, all of humanity is Bnei Noach, but we often use the term for voluntarily returning to HaShem but not converting to Judaism. If you convert to Orthodox Judaism, however, you are Jewish.
      Ethnicity is a word not found in the Tanach or Talmud. Don't fixate on labels. It's already a vague word in and of itself.

    Amazing such a learned and respected man like Rambam was born, lived and thrived in lands of the arab muslims. There no one tried to make the lives of Jewish people hard or caused them to live in danger unlikely Christian lands. Yet tragically today we see how the zionists who dont even believe in Hachem treat the arabs and muslims. We were brotherly once, and I pray we can go back to that. I say this despite all the difficulties we the muslims have been subjected to by the zionists.

      Read Rambam’s epistle to Yemen and learn the truth about how Arab Muslims treated Jews. Quick hint: forced conversions, persecution, the usual. But go on ahead living in fantasy world.
