- A three day, out-and-back hike in Oregon near three volcanic peaks called The Three Sisters in Oregon. The peaks are named North Sister, South Sister and Broken Top. Most of this hike followed trails around Broken Top and South Sister, with one night spent at Green Lakes nestled between the two dormant volcanos.
The weather was beautiful in early October, but cooler than expected. There was some snowfall on the first night which was a test for the 3 season tents. The views were amazing, from the bleached remnants of burned trees for the first few miles, to the enormous presence of South Sister reflecting in Green Lakes.
This is a highly recommended destination with trails ranging from easy to difficult. There are plenty of sites for camping along the trail but sites in the Green Lakes area are specifically marked. Day hikes are plentiful, as well.

Gorgeous area! Great video! Have a nice weekend.
Thanks for sharing your comments! Hiking among sleeping volcanoes is an unforgettable experience. So glad we were able to do that hike. I hope you have a great weekend, too 😊
So pretty! Let's go again soon
Would love to! Will never forget that trip!
Nice hike! That first trail up Three Creeks was really hot by the burn, I haven't been there in a decade so it surprised me. But October snow doesn't surprise me, I've been snowed on in that area in August, it just needs a cloud popping over the Cascades Crest and a low temperature. Happy to see someone traveling to enjoy the area!
Thanks for sharing your comments! Yes, we loved that trip. The reason for being surprised by the snow was just lack of experience hiking in that area. Would really love to try it again and hike over Broken Top.
@@jfowler You must definitely return here and there are other spectacular PCT routes close by. My first camp there was Green Lakes Basin in 1965, a week long wilderness Scout summer camp where we saw only three people not in our group during the entire week.
Wow, three people all week? It has definitely picked up in popularity since then. What really amazed me about that location was viewing a satellite image of the lava flow on the slope of South Sister after I got back. I had no idea that's what it was when we were there.
