@@johngalt6838 Oh right the year the pass interference flag was picked up and a helmetless Des Bryant ran onto the field with no penalty. Nevermind the Lions were huge underdogs both games.
We have to stop looking at numbers for QBs. Comparing different eras is impossible. It’s all about the QBs ranking during their career. Has Stafford ever been a Top 8 QB?
He was the best QB this year and will start next season in top-3 of most rankings, with Rodgers/Mahomes. In regular season, he was #3 in yds, #2 in TDs, #6 in rating. In playoffs, he was #1 in yds, #2 in TDs, and #3 in rating, and he was only QB to win SB this year. He also beat Brady twice. Name another QB who had a better overall season.
@@jeffcann7233 He outplayed Brady twice this year, including eliminating him from the playoffs. Stafford had more TD and better RTG in both reg season and playoffs. Brady is the GOAT, but Stafford was objectively the better QB this year. Rodgers got beat in the 1st rd by Jimmy Garopollo, who Stafford beat the following week in NFCC game. Stafford had more TD and YDS than Rodgers in reg season too. They both now have 1 SB, and Stafford has more playoffs wins over last 5 years.
@@jgk381 wasting your time. These guys are m0rons and just repeat what the other sheep say. Also before this season, they forgot matt Stafford even existed because he was playing in Detroit so dont worry bout them
I honestly don't know how this is even still a question, Brett Favre was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame and Staffords stats are MUCH better. Stafford has more yards, Td's and Completions and less interceptions per game than Brett Favre and Matt played for the terrible Detroit Lions while Favre played for a stacked Packers team(s)!!! No doubts about it, if Favre is a HOF'er, Stafford deserves it 30% more!!!
Lions had a terrible teams. Well one big fhe fact. Stafford has been able to twice elevate receivers to the greatest passing seasons in NFL history that shows the skills.
He’s 100% eighth. Stafford was my favorite QB growing up. He’s great but has never been legendary level. We all know that Megatron was greater of an impact than Stafford was while they were together . If Stafford is a pro bowler than Matt Ryan is also one and Mahomes is a HOF right now
If it was up to me I don't put Big ben in the hall of fame either. He's literally stafford with a better team. Only QB's who should be HOF right now is Aaron, Brady, Drew, and maybe Wilson.
I like in one argument he says he was in Detroit and no D. But Romo stats doesn’t matter because he doesn’t have a ring, what about romo didn’t have a full team/coach either most of his career, 1-4 QB would’ve had a ring with the RAMS this year
Stafford is the fastest to 20k yards, 30k, and 40k of all time. Of the 4 receivers to reach 1,900 yds in a season, Stafford was the trigger man for 2 of the 4: Calvin Johnson & Cooper Kupp. Who has the most come from behind wins of any QB since 2009? Matthew Stafford has the most. No QB in Detroit could make All-Pro because they were bad. Stafford is already a HOF QB and there will be no doubt about that when he retires with over 55k yards and 4-8 more playoff wins, including probably 1-2 more NFC Championships and maybe 1 more Super Bowl win and a SB MVP. Slam dunk!
The QB’s who overshadowed Stafford were Brees (FBHoF) Rodgers (FBHof) Wilson (FBHoF) Prescott (HoF potential) E. Manning (borderline HoFer) Ryan (HoFer) Newton (had HoF potential) Palmer (had HoF potential) Romo (poor playoff record) Kaepernick (a top-10 QB for 4 years) RG3 (a top-10 QB for 3 years) Hard to make the Pro Bowl or all-pro with those guys in the same conference back then.
Dude. You guys were one blitz away from being put down. If Tampa wasn't decimated by injuries to the receiver and DB positions, we'd be talking about how the Rams went all in and failed. Don't get me wrong, Stafford getting a shot is what sports should be, but ain't no way LA is even going back to the NFCC, let alone the SB, next season. Hell, LA winning the division will be a surprise...
100 percent a hall of famer, if he played for a different team earlier in his career this wouldn't be a discussion. coming from a lions fan, the man was the only reason they ever had a chance
Basically Sherman is saying...only players from good teams deserve to be in the hall of fame. It should be about how much you ball out. Stafford has probably 5 to 7 years left, why are we talking about this now. Let him enjoy himself and see what happens going forward.
Neither have I but he’s 34. Not finished. Still playing. The media’s obsession with talking about the hall of fame before a player retires is ridiculous. Let’s see what it looks like in 5 years.

I like Stafford, always have, glad he won, glad he got out of Detroit. I mean I think Stafford was/is better then Eli Manning and people think Eli is a HOFer? I think swap Stafford and Aaron Rogers from day 1 and Stafford is a sure fire HOFer and Rogers is looking for his first playoff win. But back to the question, 2 months ago Stafford had ZERO playoff wins to now he's a HOFer? I'm a nobody but if your not considered a top 5 player at your position for atleast 5 years, H.O.F. is not even in eye sight let alone a question.

How many times has he been considered a top 5 QB in any season? Has he ever had any real consideration for a mvp? To me he's not even in the conversation YET but he's still got plenty of years left in him to firmly put himself in there
Stafford will definitely be considered a hall of famer when he retires. Idk if he’ll win another super bowl but he will continue to throw 30+ touchdowns with 4000 yards each year. Add that with a handful of winning seasons thanks to a well run organization. It’s a given
As a Rams fan, I agree that Stafford isn't a HOF yet. But if he continues his current trajectory, and if he can win another SB trophy or two, I think he will be a 1st or 2nd ballot HOFer.
He does not need another Super Bowl. Just like 30 touchdowns a season, 4000+ passing yards, 2 more playoff victories, and an overall winning record in the next three will get him into the Hall of Fame if he were to retire after then.
Stafford is 34 years old. He still has time to at least have great seasons, even if he doesn't make it back to the Super Bowl. This "Should Stafford go in to the HoF" talk is way too soon. Just glad that Stafford got out of Detroit. Being there did hinder his opportunities.
True. If there's even a debate they don't it deserve it. Imagine they opened the floodgates to take every top 10-15 player who weren't ever a top 5 at their position and no personal accolades.
It’s premature to say yes or no. I think his career will be a part 1 and a part 2. If he can get some more pro bowls and another super bowl win or 2 then his career will be: the guy who was held hostage in Detroit but went to a winner organization and thrived and that’s a HOF career. But he does need individual accolades in LA
Stafford fastest to 50,000 in NFL History. If he was drafted by the Cowboys he’d have 8-9 pro bowls, MVPs and all the media love. He played for the Lions and was ignored for a dozen years. He will finish top 5 in passing yards and TDs when he retires. First ballot hall of famer.
The hall should be extremely hard to get into..and it shouldn't necessarily be number based...only the absolute best of the best should get in ...only like top 5 or top 3 of your class type players should get in
Stafford is part of the borderline HOF QB Tier along with guys like Philip rivers, Eli manning, and Matt Ryan. You know ken Anderson, Joe thiesman, and booker Esiason aren’t in the HOF either. They each have MVPs. I think it’s not over yet for stafford he could potentially play for 5 more years. But he would have to win a couple pro bowls and maybe another SB to really be considered
Yardage alone doesn’t define a hall of famer. A starting QB with a sub .500 career record needs to win more than 1 Super Bowl to get into the hall or we’ll be talking about Trent Dilfer and Jeff Hostetler as HOF’rs. Geez, Kenny Stabler won 75% of his games and a Super Bowl as a Raider and they debated his enshrinement 30 years longer than they should have, so why are we talking Matt Stafford?
So many great running backs without the victorys, is LaDainian and Barry sanders HOF players? I thinks so. Winning isn't everything. Stafford played through serious injuries, and was always a top tier qb throughout his career. A selfless, leader with a cannon arm, not a flashy guy but gets it done. that no look pass in the SB was one of the greatest throws in superbowl history.
I can't see any other HOF caliber QB accepting all those loses and just be content to get a good paycheck like Stafford did. I would compare him to Phillip Rivers who I also don't see as a HOF player.
Stafford have the numbers but not the accolades but that's because he played in Detriot all them years they wasn't gonna give him no pro bowls but let's see what he do going forward with the rams if he continue to do what he been doing for 3-4 now years by the end of his career he would definitely be a hall of famer
Stafford will throw the pics but at the end of the game in the 4th quarter he is the comeback guy I watched him hear in Detroit for years if not for him And Calvin as bad as it was it would have been much worse never a running game
These QB/receiving numbers are super inflated the last 20 years because of the rules limiting defense. Plus let's face it, Stafford's numbers are inflated since his teams for 11 or 12 years were always passing against prevent defenses at the end of games. He has so many come from behind wins because his Lions teams were always losing. Stafford is an average QB with a nice arm. Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson have rings.
Everybody that plays fantasy football loves when their qb gets garbage points in the fourth quarter when their team is behind and the other team is giving up passing yards. That's Stafford and the Lions.
MVP is a political award. Pro Bowl a fan vote. They shouldn't be metrics for HOF. The year Matt Stafford threw 5000 yds and 40 tds, something, at that time, only Drew Brees and Dan Marino ever accomplished, and, only Manning, Mahomes, Brady, and Brees again have done since. He wasn't selected for the Pro Bowl that year. That's absurd.
How many of those yards came in 4th quarter when they were losing? I bet more than half his yards are empty yards. Yards that came when the defense was in prevent mode, with the game already in hand.
@@raularellanes4101 Oh, so those 34 4th quarter comebacks, 5th all time count for nothing, because they came in the 4th quarter when they were losing? Maybe check out his stats per quarter and see what you find.
Stafford's numbers were top 5 in the NFL this year in every major metric. Did not make pro bowl. You know who did? Kirk Cousins, who watched the playoffs from his couch. The pro bowl thing is kind of BS.
I think Kirk Cousins is about the same QB as Stafford. You could argue he's a little better as he doesn't turn the ball over and has a run heavy offense.

"Let’s compare Stafford’s career to some Canton quarterbacks who never won a Super Bowl. I’m talking about Dan Marino, Dan Fouts, Philip Rivers (likely), and Jim Kelly.
Of those five guys, Stafford is second in completion percentage, first in yards per game, and first in touchdowns per game"
Marino,Fouts, and Kelly played in a different era of the NFL where passing wasn't such a priority like it is now.
This is like comparing MLB hitters in the steroid era with hitters in the dead ball era.
@@chaunceyhampton7637 that means nothing, that’s like saying you can’t compare lebron and MJ because they played in different eras

It’s nice to hear from Sapp again. Thanks Rich.
Troy Aikman never had the numbers. He is in HOF because he was playing with Emmit and Michael. So he got in riding his exceptional teammates who delivered 3 SB rings for him. 165 TD to 142 Interceptions. does that sound like a HOF stat for Troy?
@Muhammad Khan at least he has more TDs than interceptions although it's not by an incredible margin considering the really high amount of passes thrown
Stafford is the reason I like the lions, I always believed in him. Just wish he could’ve been given a better chance to prove himself earlier in Detroit
The lions doesnt really care about winning, just money
Thanks. Every QB that throws big numbers is called HOFer. Jeez.
No. It's big numbers plus rings.
He led the game winning drive in a super bowl. How many Qbs can say that?
@@sj4632 eli and I don't think hes a hof either
@@TheTruth-mv7hm Yeah but Stafford has surpassed Eli imo. He's more talented and puts up bigger numbers. If wasn't drafted by the god awful Lions, he would've been respected more by now.
@@Odinson42 no, it’s accolades plus rings plus numbers
He was never winning an MVP in Detroit. He’ll have all the counting stats, the longevity, the ring. If someone like Eli gets in, which he will, Stafford should get in to. It’s not like he got carried to a ring either, he was pretty damn awesome in this SB run. Not a coincidence either that 2 of the greatest WR seasons ever had Stafford as their QB
@Gabe Soto “Like Eli”? Eli won 2 Super Bowls lady.
@@wilcee675 I assume they both have losing records too
@@wilcee675 Eli won them Brady style - carried by a good team and some luck. He made some good throws but let's be real, if Eli gets in with his career and two rings then Stafford qualifies.

These have been some amazing shows with sapp
Agree could listen to sapp everyday
I like in one argument he says he was in Detroit and no D. But Romo stats doesn’t matter because he doesn’t have a ring, what about romo didn’t have a full team/coach either most of his career, 1-4 QB would’ve had a ring with the RAMS this year
100%
You know what Warren Sapp announcing TNF games, will sure get some butts in the seats 💯
Slam dunk!
Bro i would always tune in to listen to sapp .
The QB’s who overshadowed Stafford were
Brees (FBHoF)
Rodgers (FBHof)
Wilson (FBHoF)
Prescott (HoF potential)
E. Manning (borderline HoFer)
Ryan (HoFer)
Newton (had HoF potential)
Palmer (had HoF potential)
Romo (poor playoff record)
Kaepernick (a top-10 QB for 4 years)
RG3 (a top-10 QB for 3 years)
Hard to make the Pro Bowl or all-pro with those guys in the same conference back then.
I think you just made a case as to why above average QB’s shouldn’t just automatically make the HOF.
Facts.
After winning back to back SBs he will be a legend and he will cement his way to Canton.
Ahahahahahahaha
You're funny man

No way AD retires right now, i agree with Sapp
Basically Sherman is saying...only players from good teams deserve to be in the hall of fame. It should be about how much you ball out. Stafford has probably 5 to 7 years left, why are we talking about this now. Let him enjoy himself and see what happens going forward.
Neither have I but he’s 34. Not finished. Still playing. The media’s obsession with talking about the hall of fame before a player retires is ridiculous. Let’s see what it looks like in 5 years.

The NFL is following society, becoming weak. Stafford has thrown alot of yards yes, but when your in Detroit and trailing majority of games yah any QB is going to throw alot of yards.

It’s a given
First year out of Detroit and he wins a sb. That's all I need
That's brady esque
Rams were in the bowl just 3 years ago. Stop acting like they were some fringe playoff team.
Please, that team is stacked. Stafford makes some boneheaded plays every game
@@northwestfugitive3403 to make the playoffs 3 times in detroit is very impressive
Lol wtf no. There are at least 4 qbs who are better than him this year. He just happened to be extremely lucky to get traded to the rams

Sapp serious about that booth job lol
True. If there's even a debate they don't it deserve it. Imagine they opened the floodgates to take every top 10-15 player who weren't ever a top 5 at their position and no personal accolades.
Well now you can. That last drive was insane
You know ken Anderson, Joe thiesman, and booker
Esiason aren’t in the HOF either. They each have MVPs. I think it’s not over yet for stafford he could potentially play for 5 more years. But he would have to win a couple pro bowls and maybe another SB to really be considered
Can’t go off numbers when it comes to passing anymore. Stafford has never been a top 5 QB at any time in his career
"You said Jeff Bezo that is good enough for me."
😂😁
This generation of sports writers will put any QB that plays a decade + in the HOF
Exactly that man didn’t have no dam defense or a running game to win games in Detroit he put up numbers in Detroit
Sapp looks like a bigger version of Beetlejuice from the Howard Stern show lmao
Yardage alone doesn’t define a hall of famer. A starting QB with a sub .500 career record needs to win more than 1 Super Bowl to get into the hall or we’ll be talking about Trent Dilfer and Jeff Hostetler as HOF’rs. Geez, Kenny Stabler won 75% of his games and a Super Bowl as a Raider and they debated his enshrinement 30 years longer than they should have, so why are we talking Matt Stafford?
QBs don't have W-L records. Teams have W-L records. Seriously this is the dumbest thing in Sports radio football conversations...
Dude carried Detroit....Detroit......Detroit........need I say more? He's in the Dan Marino class of talks so.....yes
I can't see any other HOF caliber QB accepting all those loses and just be content to get a good paycheck like Stafford did. I would compare him to Phillip Rivers who I also don't see as a HOF player.
I've always heard Al Davis was approachable not only by players also the general public.
Sapp is amazing.
At times, the bar for the HOF has been too low, and other times someone should be considered and they're not.
Warren Sapp don't hold back. He makes a very good occassional guests to give a more aggressive take.
Calvin got in Matt should get in they gave each other the stats
I agree!
Neither of those guys are top 12 and soon to be top 10 in passing yards and touchdowns all time tho 🤔
Everybody that plays fantasy football loves when their qb gets garbage points in the fourth quarter when their team is behind and the other team is giving up passing yards. That's Stafford and the Lions.
I'm so happy we got Stafford. Yes he had some trouble this season but I was very impressed with him. He's HOF in my book. RAMS HOUSE!

I think Kirk Cousins is about the same QB as Stafford. You could argue he's a little better as he doesn't turn the ball over and has a run heavy offense.
