Stafford IS a HOF. His numbers are there with a shitty team. Look at Barry Sanders who only played ten seasons. And there’s countless QBs that had worse numbers (Troy aikman other than 3 superbowls) and are in.

Stafford has 1 pro bowl and 1 ring (not even a SB MVP)... it's a new era and every decent qb is putting up numbers that will see them in the top 10 if passing at some point so that doesnt even matter... it's about how good you are compared to the your peers in your era... Stafford was never even good enough in his era to make a single all pro team. His career ain't over but he damn sure would t make the HOF if he retired today. Would t even get any real consideration.

Why do you think Meg got all pro, made all decade team, and multiple pro bowls and not him? It's not hard to accumulate yards when you have second and top tier WRs to throw too. Stafford had more weapons than most. Maybe if he didn't throw those two picks, which should've been three if Wilson didn't drop it, may have walked away with the MVP. Stafford has an elite arm but that's about it. Too many mental lapses, and turnover prone.

Guys like Namath and Swann are in. Guys with subpar, average stats but got in because of postseason success. They were never “elite of the elite”. So, that logic is heavily flawed.

But Undisputed talks about other sports than football
His career path is somewhat similar to Fran Tarkenton. Tarkenton was 12 years in to his career, had been traded twice, and only had two winning seasons under his belt. At that point, in his second stint with the Vikings, he helped get them to 3 superbowls. They lost all 3 but he had a tremendous final chapter of his career.
I've said it before elsewhere. Stafford is in a good situation, with a good coach, good teammates, and probably has 4 or 5 years of top level football left in him.
It is too early to talk HOF. That is silly and premature. He does have the opportunity to completely change his career and contribute to the change the Rams organization wants to keep going over the next half a decade. If he is part of a perennial contender over the remainder of his career, then this question will become appropriate. Not before then.
As a suffering Lions fan I didn't like him. He had major flaws that could not be overcome. I knew early he was not the guy. He has numbers to be in the Hall. TD passes and garbage yards, and now a ring.

Comparison to other legendary QBs have taken into account their defence. Payton carried many bad defences to the playoffs, so did Rodgers. Stafford had not. Can Stafford really be among them?

He was with NFL network for several years, with Eisen, Irvin, Faulk, Warner and Mariucci. He had issues with women, and they let him go. But yeas he was great for the NFL network.
He has the manners of a goat, though. My God, was he raised in a barn? He interrupts almost every single time Eisen opens his mouth. He can barely even complete a sentence. It's ridiculous. That's a sure sign of an unintelligent person. I don't dislike Sapp, but the dude has the attention span of a fruit fly. It was so annoying I had to turn the video off.

As I already stated, I don't dislike Warren Sapp. As it happens, I enjoy many of his opinions. I don't think he's the sharpest tack in the box, but I certainly wouldn't call him stupid. But when you cut someone off every time they open their mouth, you're obnoxious and give the impression that you're ignorant. Those are all qualities that make for horrible conversations. If you don't understand that, you're likely ignorant too.

Marino,Fouts,and Kelly played in a different era of the NFL where passing wasn't such a priority like it is now.

Warren Sapp says no. I agree, some of that was outside of Stafford's control but NOBODY looks at Stafford thinking he's a Hall of Famer. How many years has he been in the top 5 QBs in the league. Not once? Only now has he been considered a winning QB.

He will be in the end. Just give it at least three seasons and certainly four more seasons. His numbers in terms of wins to losses (he will have a winning record), passing yards, touchdowns, and a few more playoff wins will put him the Hall of Fame, even if he does not make the Super Bowl again. Those combined will all get him over the hump.

I agree HOF talk should be left till the career is over. I wondered why people don't talk about how he is the fastest player to reach some of these major QB stats. Fastest to 50 thousand yards, most 4 quarter comeback drives and few others. HOF'er or not its impressive what he's done regardless of the team. I hope he's around a long time for I enjoy watching what he does.

Troy Aikman never had the numbers. He is in HOF because he was playing with Emmit and Michael. So he got in riding his exceptional teammates who delivered 3 SB rings for him. 165 TD to 142 Interceptions. does that sound like a HOF stat for Troy?

He was never winning an MVP in Detroit. He’ll have all the counting stats, the longevity, the ring. If someone like Eli gets in, which he will, Stafford should get in to. It’s not like he got carried to a ring either, he was pretty damn awesome in this SB run. Not a coincidence either that 2 of the greatest WR seasons ever had Stafford as their QB

Stafford is the fastest to 20k yards, 30k, and 40k of all time. Of the 4 receivers to reach 1,900 yds in a season, Stafford was the trigger man for 2 of the 4: Calvin Johnson & Cooper Kupp. Who has the most come from behind wins of any QB since 2009? Matthew Stafford has the most. No QB in Detroit could make All-Pro because they were bad. Stafford is already a HOF QB and there will be no doubt about that when he retires with over 55k yards and 4-8 more playoff wins, including probably 1-2 more NFC Championships and maybe 1 more Super Bowl win and a SB MVP. Slam dunk!

Hard to make the Pro Bowl or all-pro with those guys in the same conference back then.
I think you just made a case as to why above average QB’s shouldn’t just automatically make the HOF.

I honestly don't know how this is even still a question, Brett Favre was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame and Staffords stats are MUCH better. Stafford has more yards, Td's and Completions and less interceptions per game than Brett Favre and Matt played for the terrible Detroit Lions while Favre played for a stacked Packers team(s)!!!

We have to stop looking at numbers for QBs. Comparing different eras is impossible. It’s all about the QBs ranking during their career. Has Stafford ever been a Top 8 QB?
He was the best QB this year and will start next season in top-3 of most rankings, with Rodgers/Mahomes.
In regular season, he was #3 in yds, #2 in TDs, #6 in rating. In playoffs, he was #1 in yds, #2 in TDs, and #3 in rating, and he was only QB to win SB this year. He also beat Brady twice. Name another QB who had a better overall season.

@@jeffcann7233 He outplayed Brady twice this year, including eliminating him from the playoffs. Stafford had more TD and better RTG in both reg season and playoffs. Brady is the GOAT, but Stafford was objectively the better QB this year.
Rodgers got beat in the 1st rd by Jimmy Garopollo, who Stafford beat the following week in NFCC game. Stafford had more TD and YDS than Rodgers in reg season too. They both now have 1 SB, and Stafford has more playoffs wins over last 5 years.

So many great running backs without the victorys, is LaDainian and Barry sanders HOF players? I thinks so. Winning isn't everything. Stafford played through serious injuries, and was always a top tier qb throughout his career. A selfless, leader with a cannon arm, not a flashy guy but gets it done. that no look pass in the SB was one of the greatest throws in superbowl history.
He is still playing and building the resume. See where he stands when he is done.

Stafford fastest to 50,000 in NFL History. If he was drafted by the Cowboys he’d have 8-9 pro bowls, MVPs and all the media love. He played for the Lions and was ignored for a dozen years. He will finish top 5 in passing yards and TDs when he retires. First ballot hall of famer.
Stafford's numbers were top 5 in the NFL this year in every major metric. Did not make pro bowl. You know who did? Kirk Cousins, who watched the playoffs from his couch. The pro bowl thing is kind of BS.
I think Kirk Cousins is about the same QB as Stafford. You could argue he's a little better as he doesn't turn the ball over and has a run heavy offense.

As a Rams fan, I agree that Stafford isn't a HOF yet. But if he continues his current trajectory, and if he can win another SB trophy or two, I think he will be a 1st or 2nd ballot HOFer.
He does not need another Super Bowl. Just like 30 touchdowns a season, 4000+ passing yards, 2 more playoff victories, and an overall winning record in the next three will get him into the Hall of Fame if he were to retire after then.
MVP is a political award. Pro Bowl a fan vote. They shouldn't be metrics for HOF.
The year Matt Stafford threw 5000 yds and 40 tds, something, at that time, only Drew Brees and Dan Marino ever accomplished, and, only Manning, Mahomes, Brady, and Brees again have done since. He wasn't selected for the Pro Bowl that year. That's absurd.
How many of those yards came in 4th quarter when they were losing? I bet more than half his yards are empty yards. Yards that came when the defense was in prevent mode, with the game already in hand.

Stafford will definitely be considered a hall of famer when he retires. Idk if he’ll win another super bowl but he will continue to throw 30+ touchdowns with 4000 yards each year. Add that with a handful of winning seasons thanks to a well run organization. It’s a given

Yardage alone doesn’t define a hall of famer. A starting QB with a sub .500 career record needs to win more than 1 Super Bowl to get into the hall or we’ll be talking about Trent Dilfer and Jeff Hostetler as HOF’rs. Geez, Kenny Stabler won 75% of his games and a Super Bowl as a Raider and they debated his enshrinement 30 years longer than they should have, so why are we talking Matt Stafford?

These QB/receiving numbers are super inflated the last 20 years because of the rules limiting defense. Plus let's face it, Stafford's numbers are inflated since his teams for 11 or 12 years were always passing against prevent defenses at the end of games. He has so many come from behind wins because his Lions teams were always losing. Stafford is an average QB with a nice arm. Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson have rings.
Neither of those guys are top 12 and soon to be top 10 in passing yards and touchdowns all time tho 🤔
Kinda confused by sapp's logic here. Complements stafford by saying he lit up the score board in Detroit and then saying he never looked at him as a hof qb. Goes to a different team and wins it all in year one. His career is definitely not over but the dude carried the worst franchise in sports for 12 years and then goes to a good franchise and wins it all right off the bat. That's impressive. Longevity, stats and winning a Superbowl is the criteria for getting a gold jacket in my opinion. Stafford checks those boxes. He still has a good 3 years left in him with the rams as well

Esiason aren’t in the HOF either. They each have MVPs. I think it’s not over yet for stafford he could potentially play for 5 more years. But he would have to win a couple pro bowls and maybe another SB to really be considered

I feel like Matthew Stafford is very comparable to Eli Manning. If Eli is in the HOF, Stafford should be as well. Now, with that said, I don’t like the direction the HOF has gone. It should be more stringent perhaps.

You also have to realize that only 2 quarterbacks make all pro every year. Only 3 make the pro bowl. Stafford played his entire career alongside Aaron Rodgers and drew brees.
