Hearing someone mention the abyss brings me back to when I used to be super involved in the development of two mods, BetterNether and BetterEnd. We used to have to tell the abyss developer, y4z0n to stop stealing assets from BN/BE and a couple other smaller mods. Judging by the footage, they didn't really listen to us.
I personally think Dimension mods are the peak of Minecraft modding. They allow you to add any level of ambition to a mod without interfering with the vanilla overworld and, by extension, other mods. I personally think a cold version of the nether would be sick, and Ice & Fire's originally planned "Dreadlands" would have probably been something like that, but it'd be cool to raid frozen fortresses, run into some kind of "frozen flames", and interact with completely new cold-themed mobs
dude its absolutely insane that there ISNT a cold version of the nether made yet. Like its literally the most basic and bland idea imaginable yet it hasnt been made. Baffles me.
I would add Undergarden in the ALR and Betweenlands in Amazing. Undergarden basically is like the Nether. It adds some new stuff, has Catacombs as Dungeons to defeat and so on. It‘s pretty chill. But afaik it‘s not as big progression wise. Like i said, it’s like a second Nether, with unique new items, but it ain‘t a whole game on itself like TF. Betweenlands is definitely my top 1. I haven’t played TF much, so i‘m biased, but Betweenlands adds a lot of new mechanics (like Decay and Corrosion), a herblore system, which is basically a complicated brewing system, different Dungeons with bosses, events which affect the world (for example: A rift opens and closes, making it either day, night (depending on Overworle time) or when its closed, almost absolutely dark. Another fine thing is the blood sky event, which gives the mobs buffs and only comes every few real-life hours (wiki says 6-12 hours delay). There are more features, but you can see „vanilla MC mechanics“ as in: You craft armour, you buff it with Middle Gems, etc. Although it only works on an pretty old MC version, i‘ve found it recently, and from all on the list, i liked it the most. It is complicated at first, for example, farming involves digging a hole (right click w shovel) and putting compost in it (made with special compost bin and compostable things). If you like a dark-swamp themed mod, that adds new gameplay mechanics while having enough progression value, try out Betweenlands.
I agree with most of your takes, but I’d switch Abyss 2 and Aether’s placement. Also, tfw you mention Atlantis but not the Undergarden… Finally, I think you should check out Ulterlands: Worlds Apart. It’s only on 1.19.2 but it’s one of the more impressive dimension mods.
Oooh thank you for putting the Undergarden on my radar!! Not heard of it before, it looks cool. Ulterlands also looks cool! I think I definitely need to make a part two to this video once I’ve played those along with the three I cut from the video 👀
As someone who is big into dimension mods, if you are ok with playing on an older version I would recommend trying out the modpack "MeatballCraft" which is centered around progressing through various dimensions with a good mix of exploration, combat, as well as tech, automation, and magic, which its questbook does a very good job in guiding the player through I think. Really fun pack, although the early game can be quite challenging with lots of mobs that can deal high damage.
I’ve seen a little bit about it - i tend to play on the later versions so sadly I haven’t played it in a pack yet. Will be checking it out at some point though!
@Cosmxnautic yesterday there was an announcement on their discord server that there will be a port to the newest version of minecraft. There is no ETA and there probably won't be sadly enough.
Since you mentioned it, my personal favorite dimension mod is actually The Betweenlands. Everything about it, the aethstetic, the soundtrack, the atmosphere, the fact you can do an entire playthrough in the dimension entirely disconnected from the Overworld, so much about it is just so cool! And when I mention the soundtrack as a positive I mean it, it's the only mod soundtrack I listen to on the regular to this day. The one negative I can say, is that it is quite a difficult world to survive in, which has caused me some frustration on occation, but in other ways the difficulty kind of adds to it. Over all, I can highly recommend checking the mod out, especially if spooky swamps is your thing
As someone who is also not into tech mods, after spending a decent chunk of time with it, Ad Astra is really easy to get into and the progression is really straightforward. Besides that, and it being a really cool concept, it's so lacklustre. The planets are barren, each having 1-3 structures each and only a couple unique entities. And everything is so expensive to craft.
ALPHA MY BELOVED!! Thank you, I can’t wait to explore Ad Astra a bit more with you and Ari in the modpack this month. Sad to see the planets are really barren though
If you haven't heard of it, there's a space/tech mod called Galacticraft, which is the OG space mod. It was the first of its kind (in terms of content) and is actually still being updated, albeit by a completely different dev team (Micdoodle08, the OG dev, has passed on development to a new group of people) despite existing since around 1.7. Another one is Chaos Awakens, which is actually a spiritual successor to OreSpawn, the primary mod of CrazyCraft. It is still in development and will be for quite some time, but overall it still adds the dimensions OreSpawn was known for. It is for 1.16.5, and is going insanely well. It is also made by a new dev team completely unrelated to the OreSpawn dev, but it is a brand new project and not a forward-port of the OG mod. if you can, please check out these mods sometime! they're great, and although they may not be for the latest versions of MC, they are still amazing nonetheless.
I think that while built-in RPG progression is a cool feature for dimension mods, it's not my number one priority and I can see why it turns some people off. The most important thing for me in a dimension is literally the sense of "place" that they can provide, and that includes visuals, utility, sound/music, and how it relates to the other dimensions in the game. I am a fellow Twilight Forest enjoyer, but I have friends who aren't as interested in the RPG style stuff like gated progression. The Aether, imo, stands the test of time and belongs in S tier because it includes plenty of interesting upgrades and sidegrades to vanilla things, but also has enough cool and interesting gameplay elements that give it an incredibly distinct identity and set it apart from the End, the Nether, and the Overworld, and all the while tying it up beautifully with a fantastic soundtrack and aesthetic that truly mirrors the Nether in a way that doesn't feel like a copy/paste. The modern versions (and the upcoming Aether II) really are the best that mod has ever been and I believe it's the gold-standard for what adding a dimension through a mod can be. Great video btw!
Assuming you haven't played Betweenlands due to it not being on this list, strongly recommend you give it a go. Has my favourite weirdly beautiful aesthetic of any dimension mod with a wonderful atmosphere, the most polished content of any mod I've played, fantastic music and features with enough depth to be properly engaging when you learn what your doing. Cannot sing its praises enough. (also getting updated to newer versions currently, dead excited for that)
7:44 I’ve heard that mod authors get paid around like $20 per 100k downloads or somewhere similar to that 10:40 I agree, it makes it so ppl are tired of the mod and also in other cases you’ll be too op by the time u enter it so ur killing everything with complete ease and yes pls play dimensional doors it is by far the most unique dimension mod you’ll ever see and it’s quite spooky
It's kinda shocking how yet nobody even mention "Into the maelstrom" dimension. It must be one of the biggest dimension mods I've ever seen, no wonder author just abandoned it and port some of the bosses to another mod "Bosses of mass destruction". Please take a look, it's just something else, might be even bigger than twilight forest.
i think there should be a dimension mod called "california" and it should have like the blocks and every item be a glock 17 and the blocks should all be ammo crates
Such a shame you didn't include/play Dimensional Doors, as it is by far my favorite dimension mod. I am a Tech-mod kind of player, so I usually avoid some of the exploration and RPG mechanics if I can, specially with dimensions like the Twilight Forest, because of the gated progression being annoying when you are already overpowered and have to kill Naga and the other weak bosses anyways to progress, but for dimensional doors this problem doesn't exist because it doesn't have any type of progression at all, instead it is kind of like a complement mod for the other parts of the game, as it offers an optional infinite (and kind of spooky) dungeon that has good loot and only traps instead of enemies, as well as your own pocket dimensions you can use for whatever you want. It even adds *HELL ITSELF*, which you access by falling off the map while in a dungeon
I’ve played it a little bit but not enough to where I felt knowledgeable enough to include it, and I’m glad I didn’t! Seems there’s more to the mod than I thought, with it being used as pocket dimensions and so on. Limbo is so cool but when I played this mod it bugged so bad, and I had a player on my SMP get almost permanently stuck there. They tried the normal methods to leave and it wasn’t working. A server restart fixed the problem but something bugged there for sure
@@Cosmxnautic Yeah the mod is pretty old and the current version is a fork/port which is kinda buggy, so I see how that could happen on multiplayer. But lmao imagine being stuck on limbo, poor player
The betwenlands is my FAVOURITE dimension mod. The ambience, the sounds, the mobs, the bosses. The feeling that something is really really wrong with this place. The feeling of playing minecraft again for the first time. The betweenlands is my to go mod when I want to enjoy a dimension mod. The only downside is that is only avaliable for 1.12.2. Buuut the developers said that they are making a port for 1.20.x! So hyped about that, and if you liked those mods you should give it a try! Tip, don't bring anything from the overworld you will not need it. Great video!
Hey can you have a video on wynncraft? I ask because its basically like a REALLY advanced adventure RPG modpack (its actually a "vanilla" minecraft server though). and uhh... I give a challenge to you. When the next update comes out, it is going to rework virtually all mob encounters via readjusting stats to make them harder (due to player power creep in last few updates) or flatout giving them new, stronger attacks and abilities. I want to see how the bosses stack up against modded minecraft bosses. If you like twilight forest, i predict this would be up your alley.
The least known thing in the bumblezone are the sanctuaries. They are made completely of ancient wax and make it practically impossible (or super annoying) to move trough it without essence of bees. It can give you special items that will give you some buff or ability and then recharge. The sanctuaries are all basically the same except few things. At the end of each there is a challenge which is basically the only real difference except color in name. It's definitely not worth it unless its some super not-op modpack or vanilla world with only this mod Also, what the heck is atlantis??? When I was searching for some underwater dimension mod I couldn't find any that is still being updated. Where was it hidden xd
Ok I'l put my on Recommendations on the ringer, 3 mods with diferent levels of completion but that I like. First is the Aurorian, a 1.12 mod that adds a dimension with moon themes, is the currently most complete of the 3 mods, has a pretty simple progression with 3 bosses and ads a nice amount of content so it's worth giving a shot. Second is the Aylyth, a more spooky mod and with not a whole lot of content, but really well made, it adds a forest dimention full of fog and with cursed creatures roaming about, and an Unique mechanic in the place trying to consume whoever enters. Last but not least whe have Beyond The Veil(I know it isn't a dimention mod primarily but it adds one so I'l count it, and you can't stop me), a 1.12 mod that, while the dimention, Arche, is relativelly simplistic for now, it has a unique vibe and mechanic that... I will have to add a second comment to fill in the Details.
@@Cosmxnautic Tropicraft was one of those mods made even before version 1.5.2 so it was made in an entirely different modding context. It’s trying to appeal to older fans of the mod rather than change everything to be more overblown. It’s just about having a chill tropical experience with some cool features on top. It achieves those and I can respect that.
The tier list is pretty interesting. I am surprised at your opinion on the Bumblezone as I have yet to delve into that mod. That said, there is a WIP mod that you could consider: The Ceilands. It's unfinished but has a lot of potential!
I think a possible mod that tops the twilight forest is the Betweenlands! It's very similar to twilight forest and blue skys in how it has a whole progression system, but betweenlands just goes so beyond with other dimension mods do. It has a very one-of-a-kind aesthetic (a swamp and marsh biome full of rot and decay) and adds some really fun and challenging gameplay mechanics (your tools rotting and corroding, you need to eat a variety of foods to get their full effects, etc.). It has plenty of bosses and biomes, some really awesome gameplay, and is all around just a mod that makes minecraft feel like a whole new game! it really sits up there with twilight forest and blue skys its just a shame it has not been updated to any new versions! (as far as I can tell)
I think you’re 100% right. I remember seeing content on the Betweenlands awhile back and thinking it looked so cool, but I haven’t played it myself yet and because of that I didn’t include it here
Alright I agree with most except twilight forest, it sucks it’s been “unfinished” since 1.8 and it’s in every mod pack the gear you get from it can barely be used in any other mod
Hmm, fair! I haven’t been in the modding space as long as some others (since 2020) and I didn’t even really touch the Twilight Forest until very recently. I feel a bit more forgiving of it being unfinished bc like I said in the video these mods are created in peoples’ free time, and because I’ve barely encountered any bugs or issues with the Twilight Forest. But it could also partially be because I’ve not been waiting as long for it to be finished, I suppose
The twilight forest mod has been around for a long time, one of its more common pairing was with the fire and ice mod, which was really the only one it could fit well with because of the nature of the biome structures in the twilight forest you were able to find dragon dens a lot easier. But I was very disappointed with the end of it because there isn’t one, there has never been a final boss and it always just feels like you put a lot of work into a long quest that doesn’t have a resolution
@@thomasmatherii7038 That's fair. I get rlly into the progression when playing but....yeah the lack of a final boss makes it all seem incredibly worthless. Other mods within the modpack I use called WalrusLuigi's Wild Ride makes the TF gear and items useless, and makes the bosses a breeze. Like one mod gives u extra health for every x amount of new food you eat. That, paired with mods that add hella food means I can get cracked out within my first few MC days of playing. Another mod gives stats to tools and armor u find in loot chests so I can find a cracked out weapon SUPER early game. I think the completionist in me just keeps coming back to TF no matter what lol. Plus the atmosphere IS really good. I love building so ngl these days I just use TF items for that.
Definitely play with the betweenlands, I am playing it for the first time and I already love it. Although much more difficult and a bit scarier than other mods, it is definitely top of the list.
One of my personal favorites right behind the Twilight Forest is "The Betweenlands" it's really cool and I'm pretty sure it blew up because of the content drought of Twilight but I'm a little sad since I'm pretty sure that the mod is finished and won't be getting any new content. Still check it out!
Ok update I've done a little research and while yes the main version of The Betweenlands has ended the creator has been making a "The Betweenlands 2" which seems promising!
Me and my wife hated the bumblezone after the initial 5 minutes of oooo a new dimension, its part of the pack were playing and we refuse to find that bee queen
Because you’re mentioning mods that are being kept up to date I’d like to suggest you go back to 1.12.2 for a mod called the betweenlands. It’s a very cool dimension that adds in extremely unique dungeons with interesting puzzles. You can either try it out on its own or get into a mod pack I found it through called sev tech ages though you admit you don’t like tech mods and the ste pack is primarily a tech progression pack with a very interesting twist. Also for more modern day Minecraft another dungeon based dimension mod you should look into us Wesley roguelike dungeons which adds 4 unique dungeons to the underworld that act as a teaser for the dungeon themed dimension you open in a similar fashion to the end portal.
Thank you, im building an ultimate RPG modpack and ive been wanting to include more dimensions with the classic aether, twilight forest, and tropicraft. Ive been looking for something that ties into the deep dark and the abyss seems the closest even tho it likepy has nothing to do with the warden.
There is a dimension mod that does have a lot to do with the Warden. I don’t remember the name off the top of my head but it might be Deeper & Darker. Not sure if that is the name or if that’s a different mod
@Cosmxnautic deeper and darker is a thing but the dimension is rather bland unfortunately, also regarding the twilight forest, I thought the castle boss would have been out by now or is it in later releases that there's no final boss?
There is no final boss in Twilight Forest yet sadly. But yeah I wasn’t sure, I haven’t played Deeper & Darker in depth yet. The Abyss is also unfinished I believe but it does add a great deal of content
@Cosmxnautic deeper and darker makes for an interesting concept, I won't spoil fully what it fully adds(aside from another dimension) but to get there you do need to kill the warden. However despite all that it isn't really impactful after half an hour of playing it like the aether, or twilight forest can be.
Betweenlands is truely amazing, the only one besides Twilight Forest and Aether that has actually some content instead of being just a dimension without a purpose like Undergarden or bumblezone
Hey I remember playing the twilight forest with some friends in the prominence II modpack I remember killing the naga and the lich but the loot of structures and the bosses was pretty trash tbh we felt like the dimension wasn't pretty rewarding, maybe we did something wrong? Or is it like that and it's fun because other things? Thanks in advance
huh! i thought i mentioned it in the video but it may have been mentioned in my boss tierlist instead. this is one of my key issues with twilight forest - on it's own it's wonderful, but inside of modpacks it doesn't scale very well. best loot imo is the life charm you can get from the snow queen's palace, but the armor is underwhelming especially in packs with ice and fire
dimension mods ive played you didn't mention: paradise lost aether II (I'm not sure if it counts but i think it should with just how different it makes it) BetterEnd Also there are a few good aether addons: Aether: Redux Deep Aether Ancient Aether
I think I’d lump the Aether mods together next time and rank it accordingly. I was also really torn with BetterEnd but ultimately decided against including it
Aether 2 is abandoned since 4 years. I think it doesn’t add as much content as one might think. Deep Aether just adds a few biomes, doesn’t change the Aether in a big way however.
Abyss is one of my favorites! I wish I understood the progression a bit better than I do but honestly if you’re willing to read a wiki or tutorial it’s probably even better. I’m just stubborn 😭
i dont want to be rude or anything but there is something either in the editing or recording software that made youtube's compression really angry at this video, the fire pit at 3:31 was the worst part but every dark part and fast moving scene of the video had some compression artefacts excellent video but youtube did it dirty
I agree with most of these but aether is absolutely in highest tier. Also i recomend playing the atum 2 if you haven't played it yet. It adds this infinite desert dimension.
Haha aww thanks. I don’t have any active mod or modpack projects that I’m working on. I configure existing ones for my server but that’s as far as I go usually. I don’t really have the time I’d like to commit to a full modpack at the moment, but maybe one day
Hating on bumblezone earned a sub. Its awful... like a bad gimmick, too easy, while also difficult thru tedium... and the payoff with items SEEMS cool, but in actuality, its trash... Maybe worth for farming trades with bee queen? Honestly, so bizzare that it inspired so much hate. I guess points for making me *Feel* something???
Real, I wanted to like the mod so much but it was sooooo bad in my experience. I had an elytra when I visited it - I legit can’t IMAGINE what it’s like to explore it without one 😭
Every time I saw that mod I thought "Oh that could be cool, maybe I'll explore it" but it also seemed really hard to follow so I guess that initial instinct I got was right lol
this video is great! I wonder how many views it ha- ...147? (as of writing) THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!!! give this non-binary individual the love they deserve! ❤
I don’t remember what I said in this video but ik I held back a little bc I didn’t want to be too mean. I’m the #1 Bumblezone hater, the thumbnail is a little bit of bait :)

I have been on Wynncraft before! Jeez it’s probably been years at this point though. Wouldn’t mind doing a video on it at some point tho 👀
@@Cosmxnautic theres like 5 classes with 15 total archetypes and skill trees because last update
And now the enemies are getting the same treatment...
It's definitely not worth it unless its some super not-op modpack or vanilla world with only this mod
Also, what the heck is atlantis???
Honestly tropicraft was a little cooler when some of the features weren’t in the main game yet. (Bamboo, fish, and the Blackstone are some examples)
Sad to say I feel I could do Tropicraft better in MCreator. It was so hyped up to me and I was very disappointed
I love building so ngl these days I just use TF items for that.
just completed the twilight forest ngl it was very fun even tho there was no ending to it
Definitely play with the betweenlands, I am playing it for the first time and I already love it.
I would also recommend the Erebus. It’s a favorite of mine but it’s not for everyone since it’s a dimension filled with giant bugs.
Sad to see you not mention the otherside from the deeper darker mod. It's my favorite take on the warden dimension
Love your content your so underrated
thank you sm omg
by the way most of the features of ad astra were originally in a 1.12 mod called galacticraft which was much larger, but a lot less polished
Huh, good to know!
Thanks in advance
huh! i thought i mentioned it in the video but it may have been mentioned in my boss tierlist instead. this is one of my key issues with twilight forest - on it's own it's wonderful, but inside of modpacks it doesn't scale very well. best loot imo is the life charm you can get from the snow queen's palace, but the armor is underwhelming especially in packs with ice and fire
dimension mods ive played you didn't mention:
paradise lost
aether II
(I'm not sure if it counts but i think it should with just how different it makes it) BetterEnd
Also there are a few good aether addons:
Aether: Redux
Deep Aether
Ancient Aether
I think I’d lump the Aether mods together next time and rank it accordingly. I was also really torn with BetterEnd but ultimately decided against including it
Aether 2 is abandoned since 4 years. I think it doesn’t add as much content as one might think.
Deep Aether just adds a few biomes, doesn’t change the Aether in a big way however.
WOOOOOOOW
THE TWILIGHT FOREST CLICKBAIT IS INSANEEEEE
😈 😈 😈
I thought this was someone with hundreds of thousands subscribers the video quality is incredible you deserve a lot more subscribers
💜💜💜
I was looking for a video like this and you just appeard in my recommended i knew most but i have to check out abyss II
Abyss is one of my favorites! I wish I understood the progression a bit better than I do but honestly if you’re willing to read a wiki or tutorial it’s probably even better. I’m just stubborn 😭
i dont want to be rude or anything but there is something either in the editing or recording software that made youtube's compression really angry at this video, the fire pit at 3:31 was the worst part but every dark part and fast moving scene of the video had some compression artefacts
excellent video but youtube did it dirty
Not rude! I 100% noticed it too. I think it was RUclips’s compression because it looked good in Adobe and seemed fine when exported 😭
have you ever played SRParasites alone?
I agree with most of these but aether is absolutely in highest tier. Also i recomend playing the atum 2 if you haven't played it yet. It adds this infinite desert dimension.
Atum 2 seemed a little bland, I will look at it again though! Aether is a great one, but not my favorite. Top 5 for sure tho
im new to the channel but do you make modpacks for public use? i would like to play a modpack made by you
Haha aww thanks.
How is no one talking about deeper and darker?
when you have time can you talk about the undergarden
grrrrrroowl noise
I still like this video, and understand your reasoning for not liking the bumblezone, but grrrrr
Kinda old, but no mention of the Erebus 😭
god damn, Haven't heard that name in a long time.
were is the beetween lands? ):
Ouch, bumble zone in worst tier... I planned it to make it required for resourceful bees in my create sky modpack
Everyone has their preferences. I’m sure some people love the Bumblezone! It’s a popular mod for a reason after all
this video is great! I wonder how many views it ha-
...147? (as of writing)
THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!!!!
give this non-binary individual the love they deserve! ❤
Twilight forest is definitely second but nothing is even close to the aether
yo, awesome video! Got yourself a new sub! God bless ya and Jesus loves ya!
Hey cosmo, how could i reach out to you personally since it seems you do not have a buisness email attached to your youtube channe?l, thank you
I added it to my bio but my business email is cosmonautic.business@gmail.com
Bumblezone actually sucks tho,
I don’t remember what I said in this video but ik I held back a little bc I didn’t want to be too mean. I’m the #1 Bumblezone hater, the thumbnail is a little bit of bait :)
w video
agreed
Hello 👋
Hi :)
