The Leica R 280/4 is a much better lens ... I've owed both and regret parting with the 280/4. The R 280/2.8 APO lens ' bokeh is an acquired taste ... I.M.O. not pleasing and distracting ... so I sold the lens ... Now considering another R 280/4 APO. All this talk by reviewers of long lenses being 'beasts' and 'big boys' ... all very silly ... a lens is a lens and not a 'beast' .. it's not as if a long lens is difficult to use /handle ... thousands are in use by sports/ wildlife photographers.
The 280/4 is the most highly regarded of the Leica Super telephotos. With the great ISO performance of new mirrorless cameras, it's hard to justify the extra weight for 1 stop, especially with its less than great BOKEH.
R lenses resolve just fine on modern sensors if one is not a pixel peeper. They resolve with tons of character. R lenses are a huge bargain in this day and age. I enjoy using my 180 2.8 on the M10M with great results.
a bit sad there were no sample shots with it =o
If you are going to have a 2X teleconverter go for the APO-extender-R 2X # 11269 version and do not forget the handgrip Leica # 14632 !

Most use AF lenses.

@messipaw Sure. Just use the R to M adapter. However, you will have to use it on a tripod with live view.
Probably don’t need a gym membership after lugging that big boy around.
what about the leica old lens 280mm f/ 4.8? can you say me anything?
