  • These lenses are absolutely beautiful, sharp, well built, and affordable in the world of typical Leica glass. Take a look at the Summarit line of used lenses (they were discontinued) and try one out. Really, you will be impressed with the f/2.5 or the f/2.4 series.

    The Light Lens magnifier diopter adjustment also drove me crazy. I bought a used Leica one for 250 and the bonus is that I used the Light Lens adaptor to fit the M11 viewfinder!

    When I bought my M6 decades ago I paired it with a Canadian 35 f2 solely because I ran out of money. I was very happy until the purist ruined my journey. I’ve been thinking I’m in a better place now to be able try Leica again and shut out the noise makers. Thanks for explaining all this without all the posturing and bs.

    I have the 75mm f/2.5 and totally love it. For the 90mm, I use an older 90mm tele-elmarit f/2.8 that is compact and I really like for its vintage character.

    I was able to get the 50mm f/2.4 version for about the same price as the 2.5 one. I really love it. I would be interested in trying the 75 and 90, but for now the 50mm Rit and 35 Cron are my two lenses on my M11. Great content!

      Well the 2.5s are normally cheaper and are just as sharpe in the 75 and 90. For the 75 I would prefer the 2.4 for the closer focus but the 90 to me doesn’t matter.

    Can probably never justify buying Leica M cameras (and esp. lenses) since I'm not a pro photographer, but if I ever where to go down that route I know exactly what lenses I'd get and it's the Summarit series of lenses. 2.8 is *plenty* for full frame, they seem to render beautifully… and being made of the lighter aluminium as opposed to heavier brass is a feature, not a bug in my book.
    Probably won't surprise anyone that I'm also a huge fan of the so-called ”Fujicrons” which I feel share many characteristics: rich and contrasty tonality and color, relatively uniform sharpness, quite smooth out-of-focus backgrounds, very small and lightweight. And unlike a Leica base system, it's something I can afford and justify.
    No shade on Leica though, I'm happy they exist! They certainly help many capture beautiful photos.
    Thanks for making and sharing the video by the way. I love them. Very relaxed and low key, but also brimming with passion for photography.

    I did a ton of research on 90mm for my Leica M-P, and ended up with the 90mm f/2.5. Same diameter as the 50 f/1.4 so I can have one set of filters. 6-bit coding, sharp, round bokeh with 11 blades, and lighter than the elmarit. Just didn’t like that the hood was separate.

    A few weeks ago, you said great thing about the Voigtländer 90 mm / 1:2.8 APO-Skopar VM. How does this lens compare to the Voigtländer?

    • @kaskoPhoto
      @kaskoPhoto  8 месяцев назад

      So the Voigtlander does render a bit better and is probably a little better corrected. The only issue I have with the voigtlander is the hard stop at the infinity - on a few copies and my current, I loose focus at the infinity hard stop if I don’t bring it a touch back after hitting the stop. This slows me down way too much at concerts when I’m shooting from the sound board. But for everything else it’s perfect.

    How do you find the 90 Summarit compared to the Voightlander 90 2.8 APO? Apart from being there times the price? The Summaries WERE affordable, but they run up to where used ones cost significantly more than they did new. That said, I really like my 50mm 2.4.

    • @kaskoPhoto
      @kaskoPhoto  8 месяцев назад

      I think the VM APO is a little sharper and resolves a little better. But that hard stop on two of my copies was out of focus at infinity - so that really was an issue for me since one of my big income sources was dependent on that.

    • @carlseibert9015
      @carlseibert9015 8 месяцев назад

      @@kaskoPhoto Yipes! I'll check mine forthwith. I have shot it once or twice at infinity and have seen nothing wrong, but I was stopped down a fair bit in both - or at least one - of the cases. [Shuffles off to be paranoid....] Thanks.

      I had a little chat with the moon and the VM APO 90 tonight. Moon looks perfectly infocus at the hard stop. I tried both with the rangefinder and Visoflex, not that that woud tell me anything unless I was able to go beyond infinity. Either way the moon image at the hard stop looks fine at 200%
