Theses two had great chemistry....they knew how to act off each other....should've made a movie with the two of them.

MY SECOND COMMENT ON THIS EPISODE IS THAT JOHNNY MADRID LANCER & VAL CRAWFORD REMINDS ME OF AN ODD COUPLE RELATIONSHIP, AN EX GUNFIGHTER & A LAW ABIDING SHERIFF. BUT THERE WAS AN ODD COUPLE LIKE JOHNNY & VAL, THEY WERE BILLY THE KID & PAT GARRETT. BUT VAL & JOHNNY'S FRIENDSHIP WAS ABOUT CARING, LOYALTY, & RESPECT. NOT THE DEATH OF A FRIEND. AS I SAID IN THE FIRST COMMENT, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF HIS FAMILY,.INCLUDING JELLY JOHNNY LANCER DO NOT GET CLOSE TO MANY PEOPLE, BUT VAL CRAWFORD HAS HIS RESPECT, HIS LOYALTY & HIS FRIENDSHIP, & SHERIFF HAS THE SAME FOR JOHNNY LANCER, WITH NO COMPETITION FROM EITHER MAN, AN ODD COUPLE RELATIONSHIP THAT WORKS.
    A DEVOTED LANCER FAN.🎥🎥🎥🎥🌹🌹🌹🌹

Of course our playful Johnny would run across the buckboard rather than jump off first and then go around it! This is the same guy who slides down a hotel bannister.
I just love those little bits of stage business that I suspect JS improvised on his own. Just like that little clenching of his fist and wiggling his fingers that he does every so often - a gesture like that, consistent from one episode to another, helps to flesh out a character and add realism.

I actually ran across a video of an interview JS did where I saw him doing the clench fist thing! Must be an MWE thing from way back.

Shaking the fingers is an actor's trick to relax.

One of my fave episodes.....lots and lots of Johnny.....sporting a leather jacket for a change. These two were great together. Val should have been a recurring characcter

@@debrarick9617 He wore the same jacket in the movie Flareup with Rachel Welch. I think the movie may have been filmed the same year as this episode. I just got the movie on DVD. Funny same jacket in style late 1800's and in 1969!

This episode and the movie Flare-up were filmed around the same time. James Stacy's shorter hair and the leather jacket were in the film. I think his horse was used also.

It's really to bad, that the *"Lancers," never met, the "Barkley's"!* I mean, considering that both ranches, were located, in the San Juaquin Valley! And they both had very large ranches!

I LOVED THIS EPISODE, BECAUSE FOR (3) REASONS, JOHNNY LANCER DO NOT GET CLOSE TO MANY PEOPLE. WITH HIS FAMILY BEING THE EXCEPTION, HE HAS THE UTMOST RESPECT FOR SHERIFF VAL CRAWFORD. (2) HIS INTERACTION WITH SCOTT ABOUT THE CLOTHES FOR VAL. FOR THE SHORT TIME SCOTT WAS THERE, HE HAD HIS BROTHER 'S BACK TO HELP MAKE VAL A GOOD IMPRESSION FOR THE CATTLEMEN ASSOCIATION. (3) FINALLY HIS TIME WITH MURDOCH, FROM PLAYING CARDS, TALKING, & HELPING HIS SON PUT A CROOKED TEMPORARY SHERIFF NAMED CRISWALL OUT OF A JOB. MOMENTS LIKE THIS MADE LANCER GREAT. (NOTE) ACTOR WARREN OATS WAS GREA AS SHERIFF VAL CRAWFORD, & AS DRAGO. HE SHOWED THAT HE COULD PLAY TWO VERY DIFFERENT CHARACTERS WITH THE SAME VIM & VIGOR THAT HE WAS FAMOUS FOR. (SADLY WARREN HAS PASS ON, BUT HIS ROLES AS VAL CRAWFLORD, DRAGO WILL LIVE IN LANCER HEAVEN.(RIDE 'EM COWBOY)
    A LANCER FAN😀😍🎥

Debra Rick, I prefer the leather jacket he wore in The Buscaderos episode to this one. Above all, I love him in the buckskin jacket and light blue shirt he wore in season 2. Just my preference.
