    Two things to Avoid
    Sailing the Cyclades
    @Sailing Adventures with Grandad
    Solo sailing of the Cyclades I discover more about myself and the world every day. And just because its supposed to be fantastic does not mean it has to be!
    In this chapter I finally accept the fact that, as much as I enjoy the challenge of sailing solo, I am lonely and I want to share lifes journey. And yes of course, with just enough space for my own time. So I have embarked on looking for a crew as a first “bright idea” to solve this issue. The experience with Cian (the name of my crew lady) and our happy conclusion will come in the next few chapters.
    And secondly I discovered that the northern MELTEMI winds in the Aegean can drive me crazy. I need to avoid them and recommend you do the same. So hiding from them is my solution and they are well forecasted so that should not be an issue.
    The challenge of sailing solo in the beautiful Aegean sea island to island is nothing short of magnificent. But Im sure it will be equally good and safer in company.
    This adventure started after our long Covid battle, desperate to sease life again I departed Palma de Mallorca going East around Sicily, across the Ionian, transiting the Corinth Canal and have been in the Aegean for this whole season of 2023.
    SAILING ADVENTURES WITH GRANDAD are my amateur creations of my travels and experiences on Vayu my 44 ft X-yacht Vayu. The people I travel with, the places we go, the times we have and my reflections on living this challenge Ive created for my life.
    Sharing with you is challenging my very limited abilities as a narrator, editor and photographer but for now I have every intention of trying to improve.
    I am a lifetime sailor, practicing yogi, father of 4, grandad of 5 (soon 6), amateur chef, and thankful man. I live between Palma de Mallorca, on Vayu my sailboat and in Los Cabos Mexico. I share my life now with my beautiful partner Isabel who joins me sailing when she can and when the weather is guaranteed to be nice.
    This channel was launched at the beginning of the Ukrainian invasion. I make monthly contributions to Save the Children-Ukraine, in the hope that my small bit added to millions of other small bits can in a small way help ease the suffering caused by this horrific war. This war and now the Palestinian catastrophe just goes to show how fortunate or unfortunate life can be depending on where you were born. Any one of us could have been born in Gaza or some bombed out village in Ukraine.
    Thanks for your interest. Sailing like life… its all in the journey!
    Michael

    Agree totally. The Meltemi drove me nuts . Reaching to Mykonos with 47 knots on the instruments. 12 days straight with no respite even at night . I appreciate the Ionian much more now.

    It had to be the meltemi I was a charter skipper there for a few years. I met the melted many times, for cruisers I always.s say start in the North of Greece, and sail south over the summer,

    Which weather app do you use Michael? ....and specifically in terms of Meltemi forecasts?

      Hello Jaco! Good to meet you. I use predict wind which is by subscription and my main go to. Then I also peruse others just to check like Meteo Blue. The local Greek forecasts I hear are also very good and free but I haven’t used them.
