I have no problems with the cheap braid from Ali express! More expensive braid is smoother as Chinese but both are strong enough in my opinion, for my light set up i take the more expensive version like spiderwire etc.Best regards mate 👍
With 30lb braid I use 6ft shock leader of 15 or 18lb mono. Crazy Alberto knot joins the two supper sooth through the rings casting. Obviously with a witre trace. This works great for lures up to 2 onces. The bit of stretch in tbe mono reduces lost fish and crack offs both.
I’m making a shopping list for my first baitcaster. I was thinking daiwa 200size reel with 60lb braid on a 140g cast weight rod. Does this sound right? Thanks!
That's suffring for your Art sir!! Also a positive is you don't snap off and lose the fish as the pike could die with a lure in it. Thanks for the video, excellent advice!
I have an 8ft rod with a TC of around 1.5lb with a fixed spool 4000 reel. I use cranks like Shakespeare Big S and 12cm ish soft plastics etc on medium size rivers . I have bought 35lb braid, do you think this will be ok? ATB MMMD
Nicely explained. What braid might you put on a shimano exage 4000 on a savage gear spin and twitch rod >50g or >100g or >150g casting weight.3 rods 3 reels.
I used an Exage 4000 for lure fishing for quite a while and found 0.35mm was about the heaviest I could use with out it becoming an unpleasant experience.
@@jorvikangler I have tried multiple types of swivels and it still twists from spinners also replaced the reel and braid to see if it was the reels or braids fault.
Have noticed the trend of not using a shock leader with braid, I have always used a five or six foot shock leader to give some flex to the set up, feels very different and less forgiving without it.
Sure you can. Just go with 5-15lb braid depending if youre fishing at locations where you know pike are present. But the question you should be asking here is if you should be using a wire trace or florocarbon leader - I think this impacts perch fishing a little more especially if you are after large specimens as they are more cautious and weary of wire traces, where as florocarbon is almost invisible in the water.
@@Rose.Of.Hizaki i am using fluorocarbon leader but i am getting a lot of breaks on the cast using a spinning reel with 15lb braid. tried j braid and sick braid only 3-5 gram jig heads.
@@anthonywilliams1612 I dont know then. It could be one of a few things. 1 - The knots you are using arent good or youre not tying them correctly. 2 - line gets wrapped around your rod or some of the rod guides and the braid gets 'caught' when youre casting (hence the crack off) 3 - your current braid has areas where its dug in to the spool and causing 'stoppages' when you cast and your jig to fly off - basically when it gets dug in and wont come off the reel smoothly when you cast. You may need to re-spool your reel again but keep a good amount of tension on the braid as youre spooling to prevent the line from digging in. or 4 - Your florocarbon is weak somewhere. Either the knot isnt tied correctly or you are using the wrong sized crimps and they arent holding the florocarbon securely. I have the same 4-14g LMAB rod that DB fishing uses in some of his other videos. 15-20lb braid With a 10lb wire trace and I have never had a crack off when casting. @@konsta0415 i recovered the lures on 3 occasions and it was the braid that failed. I will admit to being heavy handed. Maybe not feathering enough or just bad batch.
I use anything between 65lbs and 90lbs for casting from the bank on St Croix rods. I don’t fish very suptle. If I target perck and zander, I do use 20-30lbs for trolling crankbaits. If using shads etc I will even go lighter but for pike and fishing handmade lures 95% of the time, I most often use 90lbs Momoi dyneema. It is thin but I can retrieve lures from snags easily

I’m not a pike angler by any means, but I never understood why for pike people use heavier braids than those used by angler who go spinning for GT or tuna that are definitely 10 thousands times stronger The only I ever thought about is mainly for abrasion, but this video shaded some light on my doubts finally!
Nice explain, can't really say you don't agree :) J-braid (x4 and x8) is really nice i like it, daiwa braids are good. Remember myself first time with casting, also had hard way of learning. The Barnsley accent tho :) 😀 Thumb up
I'm running 87lb Berkley Whiplash on my 10-45g Rod and 30lb on my 5-15g lol. I don't like losing gear.

How can you stop braid from twisting when using spinners?
Ball bearing swivel, the smaller the better. Or pull the line from the reel and wind it back on tightly through a wet cloth.

I can never get on with braid ,I have tried it loads of times but never ever had so much as a take .I’ll stick to my trusted mono .
The term is shock load its used in many situations
Snapped 2 rods since using braid but never ever lost a shopping trolley or tree
i used every this spiderwire, favorite fishing ,YGK and Silgon "Advance" this much better.
not lost a tree since i found braid braid
had 0.41 sick braid x8 by berkley and its snapping from finger strength. ruined my day off.
