We have a yellow American lab, now 9 years old. Most amazing dog we could have asked for. Loving, caring, gentle and active. My kids grew up with him and not once did he even try to bite them, even when they bothered him. Now my kids are all adults or teenagers and he always looks in their rooms and around the house for them when they are out with friends. You do need a good vacuum, they shed for 10 dogs.
Agreed! I have a yellow British lab and a black American Lab mixed with a Rhodesian Ridgeback and they both shed enough to make a whole new dog! The yellow one in particular sheds enough during the summer to make a rug from his fur!
I have 2 pyradors-lab/great Pyrenees mixes. One from an English black lab, (female puppy) the other from an American yellow, crossed with the GP, (male puppy). The female is black, petite, (she weighs about 68 pounds), and absolute greased lightning when she runs. She loves to patrol, and like to wade and splash in water. She has a narrow face and is very dainty and elegant. The male is very light yellow-white, really. He is a lot more stocky, and at 7 months old, weighs in the neighborhood of 90 pounds. He has a big, square head, thick legs and massive feet. He's a swimmer, and will bark if a squirrel farts in the forest a few blocks away. Extremely protective already. These 2 are my loves!!!! Best dogs ever!
According to wiki `The Labrador Retriever, or simply Labrador, is a British breed of retriever gun dog. It was developed in the United Kingdom from fishing dogs imported from the colony of Newfoundland (now a province of Canada), and was named after the Labrador region of that colony` So from that it appears that all Labs stem from British field lines, even `American` ones.
@@growingwildtv Me too. I`m in Scotland where my cousin is a gamekeeper, owning five Labradors and two Spaniels as gundogs. Every one of his Labs look like what is referred to as the American type. My sister has the other type of Lab as a pet, she told me the breeder said it was a Labrador retriever, which is why I watched this, but am none the wiser. I'm pretty sure my cousin would give me more than a funny look if I suggested he had American Labradors, though maybe its just the common way in US to differentiate the two? Maybe someone can confirm.
I got both ..golden English lab and a black american lab.I can confirm the information given in this video is correct cause my American lab can do high jump while my English lab can't 😂 it's really awesome witness their unique behaviours and characteristics.
Mine is a Fox Red Labrador. 4 years old.Barney was born from UK Kennel Club breeding. A hell of a dog. Useless as a gun dog. Just wants to play and have fun. A working dog who wants to be a pet. He is mad.
Basically there are differences! I have 3 Labis same age 2 sisters and one male from other working line! Even they grow up the same, got the same training and influences, they all are different and have different abilities....so you never no what comes out of the Lab you have chosen even he had the best Kennel time and best training, the will be different each of them)....some are more chilled, other more active hunters, other is a bit afraid of noise will the sister sleep even a bomb is exploding next to them.....Training of the owner is always the most important part....so the owner will learn what is Labi is able to do and how to be a good team together
i have an english lab very broad muscular shoulders and legs never gets tired and super smart. He goes to the vet regularly and he stays around 140 pounds all muscle . The vet says hes the biggest not overweight lab he sees .
That is really great. Seeing that labs are prone to obesity though you have managed to keep your lab healthy at 140 pounds! I hope we were of any help. Thank you so much for the Comment😄
@@LabradorCare we watch what and how much he eats we don't feed him like it's a all you can eat buffet his bloodline is all bigger labs . They are all registered and everything .
British Labs have been selectively bred for hunting and hunting trials at least as long as American labs and they are as wonderful in the home as they are in the field
Consistency and timing. My lab pup now comes and tells me with a whine to go outside. I have her in a tight schedule in life or she can be super destructive.... Start taking them out alot....and use the pee and poop commands. They will get it right away.... I was taking my pup out ever half hour then as she got older I tried to extend the time so she learns she can hold her pee.... Good luck!!
Can you please speak about shedding? I'm confused between golden and lab. Will labs shed inside home even if I give a quick brush for 10 mins everyday in the morning? The only concern is I have my parents aged 60 at home and afraid excess shedding shouldn't happen even after daily brushing. Please clarify.
I have a lab…if you don’t/can’t have hair around you at literally all times a lab isn’t for you…my lab sheds all year round, but the summers…all bets off. I could vacuum the apartment 12 times and hair would fill the canister each time, it’s insane. I swear I bite into an apple and I’m like how is there a hair in the apple lol. That said, they are so loving SMART & sweet!
I have a 9 month old labradoodle F1 mostly lab. She my first dog and my sister who's brilliant with dogs told me to brush her every morning and last thing at night, outside. I've been doing this everyday since she was 8 weeks old. At first it took an hour, she kept biting the brush and wriggling and bouncing off. I persisted (with treats) and relaxed into it. 9 months later.. we both love it and she doesn't need the treats. It only takes 5 minutes now as she sits or stands and I stroke and massage as I go from head to tail. I sit in the same spot in the garden and brush her exactly the same way each time so she knows the routine. It's a bonding thing now and she licks my face after. Sorry to go on, my point is because I brush her outside everyday and night. I only vacuum once a week. Also people ask how I have a dog but my house doesn't smell? I really think it's the brushing outside so the hair floats away. Hope it helps 🙂
I have a puppy his father was an english lab and his mother was an american lab and he is purebred but i dont know how he will look like when he grows up
I Have a Field Bred American phenotype Chocolaté Labrador from multi titled Retriever/Pointer Champion Parents & All generations going back. He is night & day different from our show Bred Labs! Way way more exercise, socializing, & training! He’s like a pro athlete & our show dogs are more like body builders. If you’re not going to seriously hunt or compete in working dog competitions or don’t have large breed working dog experience DO NOT get a working bred dog, you’ll thank me later!
This whole video is based on a fallacy! There are not two types of Labrador! There are Labradors bred to Standard and Labradors not bred to Standard. "Field or American" Labradors are no different than the "English". English are what a Labrador should look like. The idea that, to use your terms, an English or Show Labrador is not athletic is ridiculous! The whole breed was bred specifically as hunting / working dogs! To sum it up, there is only one Labrador! This whole video is wrong and full of fallacies and disinformation!!
