Thanks for continuing to make more than one video of a dog breed. We don’t just connect with the dog breeds, but also the owners. If you are not feeling the person in the video, you won’t really feel the video. Every owner brings a different personality and vibe. The guy in this video really loves what he does. You can feel his passion
I love how this guy says pressure in dog training is NOT the answer. Get there in little steps, and the dog needs to UNDERSTAND what you want. He emphasizes timing, consistency, helping your dog out, teamwork and patience, and building trust in your dog, not forcing. BEAUTIFUL!! I wish more people understood this!
Probably one of the most enjoyable videos you've made. I'm not even a huge fan of labs but some great content here. I really enjoyed his decription of "genetics tips the scales in our favor" while still acknowledging there are some great dogs in people's backyard without titles or pedigrees.
I couldn't agree more!!! Althouuuuuugh, to not breed carriers can actually be a detriment to the gene pool in the long run. If you breed a clear to a carrier you simply breed more carriers, not animals affected by disease. If everyone tracks which dog carries what, they should be ok. Every time you leave a dog out over one gene, you throw out an entire body of genetics. It's throwing the baby out with the bathwater.
This man's philosophy is remarkable, he truly understands the animal and wants what's best for it. Refreshing to see someone who works with the dog and doesn't demand it to be a preconceived animal
Do you know the list of dog breeds that are not unhealthy? Most so called purebreds have some kinda issue. Goldens more so than labs. But yeah, I'll wait for you list mate. @@THEBLACKANARCHIST
I have a 12 week old aussiedor (Labrador retriever/Australian Shepherd). I’ve always wanted to train dogs and he has been the smartest dog I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with. Labs are awesome.
Beautiful dogs. They are well trainable and just eager for attention with command and love.. Great with children as well, had a pure breed black lab for 12 yrs and enjoy him till he pass away in 2018.. Let them run around and train them is the most important for these kind of dogs too.. Hugs to all fur lovers...
I also trained my labrador using commands paired with hand signals. I encourage all owners to do this. Not only does it make it easier for the dog to learn, but its nice to be able to maintain control of the dog silently. 👍
i had a trainer tell me he learned that from another trainer but for another reason. If the dog is far away and cant hear the command but see ya, he'll see the signal.
Also training with hand signals keeps the dog in your sight at all times. He'll be making sure he can look to you for guidance so he'll stay in sight of you for cues.
I could listen to him all day, every word is worth hearing. Perhaps an opportunity to interview him again in more details on specific types of training might arise in the future. I hope so. Thanks Zeke another genuinely useful and interesting video.
Its so inspiring to hear from a man who has worked and perfected his craft for decades. And when one's work can be combined with their strongest interest, you have a lucky man indeed.
I'm disabled and have two Golden Retrievers and one Black Lab, I'm home all the time with them and they have a 24K gallon pool. These dogs are the best they haven't been trained but seem to know what one want them to do. The Lab is 7 mo. and she is the best swimmer and seems to have problem solving skills. I will never own anything else. Thanks for your video !
My younger brother Patrick and I got a black Labrador retriever pitbull mix named Maggie from the Oregon humane society back on June 22nd 2013 she was 9 years old we had her for 5 wonderful years until August 20th 2018 when she passed away from cancer she was 14 years old when she passed away 😢💔 she was our first dog ever
He gave a great advice. Repetition is key to training. Every dog is different train at their pace and never force them to do something they havent have full understanding yet.
My grandma had one in puerto rico we used to take him to the lakes and beaches over there he also used to stay with one of our horse until we came back but sadly it died from old age in 2017 she was 15 years old there amazing loyal dogs amazing video
A Labrador will be the best friend that you will ever have. Your old fella reminds me of my Dougle, I can see him now after a hard day picking up driving home in the Land Rover , Dougle sitting behind me (no cage) with his head on my shoulder. What a dog, sadly taken from me at the age of nine years old. Kind regards from London.
" ...and the idea of beating these dogs to try to get what you want if the dog is giving you his best, is going the wrong way on a one way street.." Powerful and truthful words from a true owner and trainer!! Every single person needs to hear that. Zeke, you're amazing man! Another 10/10 !! And the in-depth conversations you have with the owners is wonderful, priceless knowledge. Much love from Montana!!
I just got me a white(looks slightly yellow in the snow😋) labrador a few months ago! His name is Juno and he will be 5 months old on the 7th! Love him dearly already. He's not full lab though...his dad was 1/4 border collie..but you can't tell by looking at him. He's extremely intelligent and loves to play/work ALL THE TIME. He also can't sleep anywhere other than in bed with me...which I don't mind because he keeps my legs/feet warm at night :P
Really enjoyed watching this video, thank you! These are such strong and healthy dogs. The trainer clearly loves his profession and the dogs, and they in turn love working for him. That's absolutely beautiful to see.
These dogs are amazing! But at my workplace, they're just a whole bunch of crazies! Always going into other dogs food containers and absolutely loves tennis ball times.
Really good video, I think I'm pretty good with dog training personally and this guy's advice is a lot like a lot of my father's. He also got me a black lab when I was young as an only child, the dog was sort of a sister to me so I can relate to his love of the labrador breed. I think his advice is spot-on, that training should always be positive enforcement. "If your dog looks lost, he probably is.. Slow down, back up, help him out." This stood out to me in particular as a really good quote. Patience, kindness, consistency, understanding that your dog just wants to please and maybe YOU could be doing something better is important to remember.
These dogs are so beautiful and it’s awesome to see such a seasoned breeder/master trainer still in the game! You can see the bond he has w his personal dog. These wise and action shots are incredible Zeke. Thank you for filling my curiosity of different breeds
Nice to see a working dog video again, Paul is a great guy who's always been a dog trainer and he really enjoys his dogs and and the sport. kudos on the video . I see that you filmed at rauhuagees duck club , nice place.
What a great video. I'm in sales right now, and I feel unfulfilled. I ended up getting a beautiful fox red labrador retriever and it's making me want to quit my job and start a dog breeding / training facility. Everything he said is bang on. I did a lot of research before getting my pup and his bloodline is very good. Dad is in top 5% for his hips. Am I crazy? If I really love training dogs, should I quit and start a company? I feel it's the only way I will feel fulfilled and happy in life
Great video. A good old master. One of the best breeds in training and a combination of qualities. And therefore, used as the main breed as a guide for the blind, to work with smell, lifeguard, ..., ideal in family and with children ....!
I totally agree. I love all the breeds. The dogs that work. That have the mind and body to do something amazing. It's great to bond with a dog, to train a dog to accomplish something amazing. To be so together with them that you understand your commands, your signals, and can do things like track, protect, and obey. I want so much variety I would love to do the IGP I think its called. The challenge alone draws me to things like dog training, breeding, and things like shows, and competition. Everything this man is saying makes him not only one of the best dog trainers but best dog owners.

@@ariesk9416 No dog trainer should claim they can train any dog. Most dogs, sure, but if you're faced with a case where you're not sure the dog will be any better off after "training" you need to be upfront with the owner and tell them you are not the right trainer for this dog. I'd recommend everyone raise at least one puppy for a service dog organization. Not only will the organization cover veterinary and some other expenses, but you get support, puppy classes, and hands on training experience with various dog breeds. It will make you a better pet owner in the future, and can be a great way to have a dog when you know your life might not be ready for a 15+year commitment.

Really refreshing to see labs that aren’t overweight
The show line labs are much chunkier than hunting line dogs.
