That said, ordering In N Out's fries as "well done" can make them a lot crispier... as long as whoever's making them doesn't overdo it and burn them, which I've had happen. Watching your videos, I came from Europe about 40+ years ago, brings back my first impressions of America.
The first time I went to America I landed at LAX and was driven to Hollywood where we went into a pretty well guarded complex where this friend of my future wife lived. I remember a female voice yelling: "Hold the elevator!!". The next moment Jennifer Grey ran into the elevator and a conversation started between my future wife, her friend, and Jennifer Grey, all I said was: "Good evening" and just stood there taking it all in as if I took one of Star Trek's transporters and landed in a whole new world. Both of them thanked me for not freaking out in the elevator. Well, I was but I kept my cool and that was just the beginning of a whole new world for me. Everything was so big and wide. The roads just blew my mind! In those days the traffic wasn't as bad as it is now. America, it was once a dream and now my dream has come true.

As a Californian, I love In And Out, but I think there is a caveat that needs to be added for those who aren't as familiar with In And Out. The thing you have to keep in mind while eating it is, the Double Double is about the same price as a Big Mac. The freshness and flavor is superior to other fast foods of a similar price, but the way it is hyped up, outsiders are sometimes expecting burgers cooked by gormet chefs that you might see on a food network competition show and they disappointed as a result.

I've only had In N Out once. I live in NC, we don't have that restaurant. The closest thing we have is a restaurant called "5 guys" which is very similar to In N Out. My husband & I helped his sister, her husband & kids move from Washington State to Palm springs Cali. about 15 yrs ago. We were on the west Coast for almost 6 months. In N Out was very good.I would love to have it again. That was my 1st time on an air plane & on the West Coast. I'd love to visit Washington State & Palm Springs again someday. So many different things than here on the East Coast but also a huge cultural shock. 😆

I'll be the odd man out. I think In n Out is pretty blah. I hate the fries. They are a weird texture, sort of like pringles but in fry shape? And the burgers were fine but not great. I'd say they are about the same as a dairy queen burger (which I never order). About the only thing I can say I liked was the price. It is really cheap. I guess if you live in Cali, where everything is high cost of living, I can see why it becomes your go-to.

Can't beat In-N-Out. I've said it before: It's just "simple done right". Simple burgers with fresh ingredients. Super consistent across locations and a fair price. It's not fancy. You're not adding bacon, truffle oil, etc. It's a classic cheeseburger like you would have gotten back in the 1950s. The fries too. Actual, fresh sliced potato fries, which some people don't find as appetizing as more modern super engineered fries.
People don't understand how much of the Southern CA culture revolves around this restaurant. You hit Disneyland until they throw you out at midnight. Then a bunch of people hit In-N-Out because they don't close until 1:30 AM! The place is still slammed from hungry theme park patrons and folks leaving sports venues. It's like an intersection of SoCal people.

As a native Californian, this brings me joy!
Fun fact #1: Except for the very early In-n-Outs that you’ll find mostly in Southern California, every In-n-Out store has the exact same format.
#2: You can ask for “extra everything” and they will double the fresh veggies for free.
#3: You can find whole pepperoncinis by the ketchup dispensers, but a little known fact is that you can ask them to add on sliced pepperoncinis to your burger.
#4: No drive thru is nearly as long either. IMO, most of the time it’s worth eating inside because may be faster haha.
#5: The fries trays and cups have Bible verses on the bottoms of them.
#6: You can buy In-n-out shirts and socks and other memorabilia which are actually really stylish, especially the socks. Seeing someone wear the shirt can kind of be a novelty sometimes. It’s like those Pizza My Heart shirts
#7: You can ask for little sticker books and even the paper hats that the workers wear for free. Little kids love both of those.

As a kid living in Southern California that was and still is by far the best fast food burgers you can get. It helped when one was only a mile away. In those days, they only had drive-thru or you ate outside; there were no dine in option.

I'm from Calif originally and In n Out is still my favorite burger place. I always ordered the double double, fries and whatever shke I felt like that day. I was ordering a 4 x 4 for about a year, but I eventually went back to the double double.
If you watch them cooking, you see them slamming the potatoes through the fry cutter right to the oil.

In-N-Out tastes like how burgers should taste. And although lots of people hate the fries, I personally love them. They still taste like potatoes and not some processed potato to make it artificially crunchy. Just potatoes dunked in some hot oil. Simple and fresh. ❤

I expected nothing less than a full 10/10 score from you all! In n Out is absolutely incredible and it’s the first thing I get on my way home from the airport when I come back home from college in Florida! My go to is a hamburger, no onions, protein style (lettuce wrapped). Sometimes I’ll get two of them, sometimes I’ll get two with fries, sometimes one with fries, sometimes just a regular hamburger with no onions, and sometimes I get animal fries. Over winter break I was getting a protein style hamburger without onions and animal fries a lot! I also ask for extra sauce and I bring it back to Florida with me haha!

I'm soo happy to see all of you loved In-N-Out and i'm surprised you loved the fries! Most people hate In-N-Out fries, but i am not one of those people. In-N-Out fries fresh out the fryer and eaten immediately are my favorite fries from any fast food place, but they are the worst fries if you do not eat them within the first like 5 min lol. You just can't beat the, price, freshness and consistency with In-N-Out burgers. I recently tried Shake Shack for the first time and i spent $20 for a double burger, fries and a shake(that same order is like $12 at In-N-Out) the fries and shake were very good and the burger was also very good, but In-N-Out, to me is still a better burger, and my go-to when I am craving one

Exactly. I tried Shake Shack for the first time a few months ago. And not impressed.
Its a very typical fast food burger, as are the fries. It's ok, if in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way to go there like In-N-Out. Same for 5 Guys. I don't know why some people prefer these. The 5 Guys locations here in California are usually nearly empty, while In-N-Out has lines for days both drive-thru and at the counter.

I went to high school by the original location over 50 years ago. All food is fresh daily, nothing frozen, potatoes peeled daily for the fries. What ever food is left by end of day is donated to food banks. The original is still there, visited it recently. They treat their employees great, pay higher wages than other fast food, also the cleanest fast food restaurant you will ever visit. Love this place.
