holy shit dude thank you. I was stuck in a pharmacy drive thru starting to tear everything apart in the console trying to apply the 'fixes' from other vids I was hastily watching. Thank god this one showed up. The bushing piece didn't *look* or feel bad but I wasn't able to inspect it close up. I was however able to place the cable back on and drive home. life saver

No Check Engine light on…. 204,000 miles…Same year… No Issues with car ever…Dropped off some food… Car crunk right up as usual … No Reverse at 11pm (HA)……Called Tow Man… found and Watched Your Video … Husband went right to it under hood and popped it back on…car went in reverse … Drove Home…. No Tow Man Needed after waiting hours….THANK YOUUUU! This was Just what I needed!

Had this problem the other day. Your video allowed me to find the problem quickly while working on it in a parking lot ... in the rain ... at night .... looking at RUclips on my phone. If anyone has issues with windows not rolling down in the Avenger or not wanting to roll back up after being rolled down lemme know it’s the control module in your driver door panel that has the lock unlock and all the window buttons on it. was 100 bucks at advance auto and was very simple to replace just needed a screwdriver you pop it out and connect the plug in the bottom and just pop it back in place

Had this problem, affected my passenger door, and locks didn't work in the driver Side for a Long time before that.
can confirm replacing the module (was about 120 CND for me) resolved the issue. took like three screws out and careful prying of the plastic clips.

Thank you so much for this video!!! I was ready to buy a whole new shift kit till I checked under the hood and saw that the shift bushing had dry rotted and the shift cable had come off. Instead of calling a tow truck, I am going to try to get in gear by holding the shift cable on with a piece of duct tape (just to get it in gear), and drive it to my mechanic... wish me luck!!!

3 questions:
Did you use the smallest bushing or next size up?
Is the flat side supposed to snap over the ball or the beveled side?
Did you need pliers to snap the bushing into the loop at the end of the cable?

Thank u for the video, this just happened to me today I thought it was the transmission or the battery, because it was stuck on reverse so i couldn't even turn it on or put it in gear, so i took the battery out got it tested n it was good so then I thought it the transmission, but luckily the tow truck man told me it might be the linkage n he was right, also he showed me a way to put it in neutral without the key since mine was stuck in reverse learned alot today n I'm very glad it wasn't something major

There is a video on how to put in into drive manually, I forgot the name of the video, but just look up on how yo put a dodge avenger into gear manually, I hope this helps

Similar thing just happened to me in my 08 avenger.
The cable end popped off when going from drive into park. The transmission was in the reverse position when it came off, and the shifter went all the way to park.
couldn't start the car as it was reading the transmission in reverse, and I couldn't release the shifter from park as it's safety locked in position till the car is running.
Other videos were long dissasembly/cable replacements.
almost gave up. this video popped into my recommendation.
with the e brake on(car still off), I had to use some pliers to pull the transmission linkage pin/arm forward to put the transmission in park, then I was able to pop the cable back on.
I stop at a mom and pop parts shop, they had this exact bushing kit on theor rack, last one. showed them the package, compared, the same.
wrestled with replacing the bushing for a bit, but got it seated, popped it back on the pin, problem solved.
20$ CND fix

This exact same thing happened with me tonight. Except, everything is the opposite. Dashboard was stuck in Drive, and shifter was in Park. Now I’m hoping it’s something minor and not the transmission. I have my mechanic coming to check it out 🤞🏽

My car wont shift out of park and a customer at the store I was broke down at looked under the hood and he showed me what was wrong but he didn't tell me the name of the part and nobody at the auto part store could help me and I was told that I would have to go to the Dodge dealership and I don't want to do that!

Ray Campbell hard to tell without being there. Maybe check the connection to your battery move the wires around a bit see if that does anything. When my alternator went bad in my avenger it died while driving and eventually it wouldn’t start at all when I parked but the lights and stuff would come on .

Ray Campbell if you can’t get it started but moving the positive and negative on the battery then yea I would. Maybe see if you can get it jumped and go to a auto part store to have them test the battery and run the codes if any are poppin up
Mines don’t get stuck bt it do let me move the shifter up an down bt when I put it in reverse it won’t accelerate everything else work fine nothing wrong with my transmission or motor

Thank you ,thank you, so much ... I watched this video after discovering my spring wasnt broke in the shifter, I then look at the bushing you pointed out in the video, And tada! There it was so ,I went and got the lil part ,my sister and I struggled a min. To get it in but we did it and I just want to thank you so so much it saved the day for me. Blessings to you !

Does this part fit other year avengers? I noticed anther comment was for an 08 and it worked. I have a 2011 with the same issue but the parts store is saying it wont fit my car but online also said it wouldnt fit your 2012. Was wondering if i should just go get the one u got as wel? M. All. Of course it works for other years this video is for a 2012 model. Don’t ever listen to someone at a parts store they aren’t mechanics a lot of them have no clue what they are talking bout lol. But yes to answer the question this video is for a 2012 so it would work fine for a 2011 etc

I was missing the bushing replaced it but still.not working I can move and shift but won't drive or reverse engine just revs up what else could it be

Basically gotta tear the old one up lol I just got it out with a screwdriver or something and used some pliers to get the new one in . Mine was dry rotted so it broke once I started trying to get it out . It is a hassle though for sure

IlNatsume- you might have a issue with the actual cable linkage that runs from engine bay to the shifter knob. Pop the plastic piece off so you can see under the shifter knob and make sure the linkage is where it should be and is connected . But it also may be a issue with the transmission hard to say

David Brackett had the old plastic brushing break off in the linkage so really just took it out with pliers and new one should just go in think I used pliers to put some pressure on it but that’s it just gotta be careful not to put too much pressure on the new bushing or it’ll break too . Parts bout 11 bucks and shouldn’t take more then 15 mins .
David Brackett unfortunately when I was putting new one in I tried to move by radiator hose too far to get some more room to work with and it was dry rotted so it broke and had to go buy new one of those as well

My 08 Avenger did the same thing today.
I was at the dealer having it serviced when I was leaving. Stopped to look at another car, after which it wouldn’t shift. My lucky day, one of the mechanics knew what happened, didn’t have the bushing so he zip tied it to get me going for now.

It’s a pain in the ass I used some pliers cuz channel locks were too big to get down there well my big hands didn’t help either. I also disconnected the rubber tubes going to my radiator and to get more room to get it in there .
