Thanks for the post :) Much appreciated. Two aqueducts and three tunnels plus a few locks. An excellent canoe camping trip. Glad you liked it :) Cheers.
Very enjoyable to watch. I also use a double inflatable kayak along that canal and sometimes start from the car park at Platt Lane. As you probably know there is a fire ban on Whixhall Nature Reserve as it is peat land.
really enjoyed that. ive got the k1 challenger. your right its a bit wobbly in the wind. ive just bought a full size canoe. im hoping to take it on the mere in elsmere this tuesday or wednesday. id like to do that trip myself with my son.
+David Beacall It was a great trip. Good weather helps and as I like to wild camp, I did find it difficult to find a quiet spot to camp. Despite the rural location of most of the canal, good spots were few and far between - at least on the offside. But do the trip. I cannot recommend it enough. Thanks for your comment. Much appreciated. :)
Thanks for the kind words. Much appreciated. It was much easier with the additional weight of my gear. without it, the canoe was very easily blown in the slightest breeze....................... And I do have some more canoe expeditions in the pipe line. Glad you enjoyed this one. :)
StonecatWales Im looking forward to your next video. I'm getting addicted to kayaking too. I've got an aquaglide Chinook. Did the River Medway with my daughter last summer. Can't recommend it more! I've a short video (if you're interested - please see my channel). the addiction is getting so bad I'm thinking about getting a hard shell. Tho inflatables are brilliant!
Just tried to look at your stuff, but Google keeps throwing up a huge ad' covering your profile, trying to get me to sign up. No way to move it from what I can see!
+StonecatWales confused! Ive looked at my profile using no sign in and tried an alternative sign in. There doesn't seem to be a problem. .! Wondering what you're doing. ..?
Sadly, I ran out of time at Grindley Brook beyond Whitchurch. I'm doing Farndon to Chester soon on the Dee and also Chester Weir to Shotton on an ebb tide. :)
always wanted to do farndon to chester on my boat , I fish there a fair bit as I can get my big van along side the river in farndon, nearly got up that far when I had the old seagull engine on the back one time but had to head back as it was getting dark and was parked up down by the motorbike shop in chester ..great day out
Apologies for the delay in replying. Just going through my vids; RUclips doesn't always notify of comments left. Thanks for the kind reply. It was a pleasant trip :) Cheers.
Loved that video. I could’ve watched that for hours. Wanting to do Leeds Liverpool but this 2 day trip looks perfect without worrying about B&B’s. just wild camp 👍🏻👍🏻 great vid
Just reviewing comments on older videos mate so apologies for the delay. I don't always get notifications of a posting. However, thanks for posting. The Leeds & Liverpool has some long sections which are almost completely rural. Lots of quiet spots I imagine to pitch up unobserved so to speak. Why B&B when you can pitch up for nothing? Highly recommend it mate :) Cheers.
@@CBCB78 I like it a lot. It holds up well. I would'not trust it dragging over any gravel or rocks. The only downside is wind. The boat is very light and high in the water. On this trip I had a load of stuff with me which was I think about the weight of another person so it sat lower in the water and this helped a lot. :)
That was so good, I thought you did amazingly well. Do you happen to know if there are any quiet spots with a bench or somewhere to sit where you can also park not too far away please? Thanks Scott x
That One Song Indeed, at Llangollen. If you take the road out of Llangollen towards Trevor and Ruabon, a mile and a half outside of town, the road goes over the canal. Before crossing the canal, you'll see a canal path access gate on the right. Park there.Walk through the gate and go 150 yards and there is a great spot with a couple of benches with a view down over the fields, River Dee, golf course and the valley hillside above the A5. You can perhaps appreciate it more in the other vid' on here - Gary Speake Memorial Tree, which I planted at that same spot. You'll see the view in that. :)
Angela KM why can’t you just say carry them out of the water haha, many won’t understand what you mean. You’re right though all Kayaks and Canoes need to be carried when coming to locks.
Hi. I've had mine inflated for three days before topping up and only then because I felt I ought to rather than it actually needing it. I always take a pump with me anyway. Hope this helps? :)
You'll have loads of fun mate. I'd say if occasional paddling, you'll be fine with a cheaper model say circa £100, but if you want to do a lot, invest in something more expensive, durable and well known, like Sevylor. :)
Thanks for the tip. I would more than likely go for something of a higher quality, after all, you get what you pay for, especially if it's my backside sitting in the thing.
I know there's a strong current on the Llangollen, would you be able to use paddles on a return journey through the tunnels and both aqueducts as it looks very narrow? Enjoyed the video and hoping to do the same with a kayak but want to return back to Llangollen on kayak.
Hi. Thanks for posting. I'm just reviewing older vids and discovered your post. apologies for the long delay in replying. I received no notification. The current is negligible mate. There are many people canoeing it now in the aqueduct sections. The current doesn't interfere with paddling at all tbh. Paddling the tunnels is easy enough. Just wait for a boat and follow it through. I wouldn't canoe straight in otherwise, even with a light. Most of the boats are holiday hire vessels and most of the drivers are first timers. They'll mow you down! Always follow a boat into a tunnel. The aqueducts are easy. Again, follow a boat, but you don't need to as you can see straight across both the Pontcysyllte and Chirk. If boats are waiting though, they have priority, so don't dawdle on the aqueducts if traffic is waiting to cross. Otherwise, go for it. Lots of canoeists paddle from the source at the Horseshoe Falls to Froncysyllte and back, crossing Pontcysyllte twice. That is 7 miles each way. From Llangollen to Chirk and back is 8 miles each way. :) Cheers.
Nice video mate the route looks lovely! Was just curious how did you get into canoeing initially? I'm kind of wanting to give it a go but I'm completely new to it and not sure where to start. How do you go about planning your trips?
Hi. I'm no canoeist as such. I did a bit at school decades ago.I just one day decided a canoe would give me an added dimension to my outdoor activities. I was correct. I've had some fun and plan on having a lot more mate.I decided on a mid priced inflatable to measure if I really wanted to do it. I joined Canoe Wales which as a member allows you to canoe legally and insured on most inland waters where canoeing is allowed. There is an English part of it but joining either gives the same benefits.I just pottered about then. I messed about on my local canal getting the feel of the inflatable (they need weight or the wind gets them), then decided on a couple of days of exploration.I did mark out my route on Google Earth, putting a marker on each mile and I calculated 12 - 15 miles per day max'. I did identify two likely looking spots to camp. The first was great. The second, not so great and I ended up doing about another four miles before pulling up at a suitable field.Inflatables are slow compared with fibreglass or plastic canoes. I could easily have done 20 miles/day in a solid canoe. also, it is difficult to get an inflatable out of the water if laden with gear so I had to go through locks which is frowned upon. With a solid canoe, you just porter it round obstacles on a little trolley. So for all intents and purposes, I was as much a novice as yourself. I'd grasp the nettle. You can get a good canoe for £80, a life jacket for £20 and less than another £50 for membership and odds and sods. Also, if you damage your canoe, it is less painful to replace it! I bought all my stuff on eBay, brand new.Hope this rambling of mine helps? I say just go for it. :)CheersScott.
Apologies for the delay in replying. Just going through my vids; RUclips doesn't always notify of comments left. I just found yours. I had no probs with the farmer. As in the vid', someone came close to the tent early in the morning on a quad or such like. No hassle though and even if there was an objection, too late, I was due to pack up and move on any way. All innocent. No litter or fires or damage. Cheers :)
Truly, it is not. Just look at how other people do. They control and move slowly FOR the record. Note that the problem is not much the frontal movement but the quick lateral movements. After a few minutes of those, we start to feel motion sickness! There are a few people who take the time to share the beautiful sceneries they go through. It is so great. Thanks a lot for all those who can't move around.
The aqueduct section looked amazing. Thoroughly enjoying. Thanks for sharing.

I'm really impressed that you did the journey in the Intex kayak. I hope you do more - very watchable!!

Enjoyed that vid trip, cant beat the Llangollen stretch.
TFS.
Thanks for the post mate. Appreciated. Yes, the first 6 miles from source down to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct are excellent. :)
Great trip, that aqueduct is mental! In a canoe and just over the edge is a drop of god knows how many hundreds of feet??
Hi. Just discovered your comment. The highest point above the River Dee is 126 ft. It looks higher of course. :)
A treat to watch mate. I love Llangollen. But I love kayaking more! peace lad
Thank you for the kind post. Much appreciated. I really enjoyed the adventure. :)
Great vid buddy, its a lovely stretch.

StonecatWales I’ve just bought your exact kayak to make transport easier. I bought it coz of this video. How does it hold up?

Great video nice little trip
Hi. Thanks for the comment. Much appreciated.
It was a great trip. Very interesting. 90% of it went to plan! :) Cheers.
I think you’ll find that’s a kayak buddy. Nice effort though

cracking adventure! how did you deal with the locks? did you lift out and carry around or did you go through them?!

Does anybody know how long an inflatable kayak holds its air for when using it?

As in most things, you should always buy the best you can afford :)

I had a lift arranged mate :)

A bit shaking but otherwise good!

Please move less your camera, it is very difficult to follow.
