Mitzrayim I know it was such a shame. Crosby was great in TNG but somebody ought to be shot for the terrible writing they gave her. Just imagine what a fantastic character Tasha could have matured into by season 3 or 4.
Gotta blame Denise for that one. She wanted out of the show. I think it was due to poor writing. I did like her recurring over the years tho. A shame they didn't do more with Sela. She could've been Picard's Dukat.
tasha was killed off bc denise left the show so gene didnt have to chose b/w her, marina and gates. marina stayed on during s2 as gates got fired and was replaced. denise was always missed, etc etc.
A lot of actors would want to get one hit where they are set for life. Then they can do dinner theater somewhere because of their passion. These STNG actors are very lucky and blessed.
"A lot of actors would want to get one hit where they are set for life." Oh, if only that were remotely true. Hate to inform you of this but even some highly acclaimed actors with several timeless roles to their names hit hard times and some died in poverty. Judy Garland would just be one example but she was literally broke and an alcoholic wreck by the time she was in her mid 40's. But fair enough: You're never *forgotten* by a whole generation once you had a role in a hit. Even if you hit hard times there are people who remember you.
@Renée Arnoux Guess you missed the "set for life portion of what they said." If Judy Garland was broke at 40 then she wasn't set for life now was she?
It's so cool to see them interview together...I liked their relationship on tng and wish it could have been fleshed out more with time (had Denise stayed)
I saw it too but assumed it was part of Brent's shirt? Like the zipper or zip. I know there´s a difference between zip and zipper but I can´t remember which of the two is the American.
Grew up watching ST:TNG and really loved Tasha. Never did get into Troi (though Marina seems funny), though I did like Crusher because she had a sardonic side to her. I just really do wish there had been better writing for the female characters.
What an awesome panel... great questions... I think this would be better than the Jeffery Combs panel I saw years ago, and HE was great too.. I wish someone had recorded that, and the one I saw of Brent back in Detroit many years ago.
Some actors make really bad career moves. Crosby leaving Star Trek TNG was a really bad move. When she left she faded into relative obscurity and lost out on millions in tv and movie salary.
She did an interview about how she was miserable on the show and despised the idea of having to say, "Aye, Aye, Captain" for years. It seemed she left on her own terms to try other stuff and never had any regrets about it. Good for her I say, the sense of being trapped is a terrible feeling. Not everything is about fame and loads of cash. Hell, Brent seems to largely resent it himself.
Actually I disagree completely. For the exception of two episodes, (Skin of Evil and Yesterday's Enterprise), Tasha was a generic character with no real substance other than 'tough chick'. By leaving and demanding to be killed off, she forced the writers to take the show to a new level. The episode she's killed off served as a turning point for the show. Generally, when things happen on Star Trek (for exception of DS9), there are no permanent consequences to the show - nothing so serious that could happen that it couldn't be undone. And she forced them to write her a wonderful exit that reset the show - now, all the sudden, for the first time In Trek history, we could lose a character even if they're in the main credits. It was that moment that lent credit to the two parter where Picard was kidnapped by the Borg. Before Tasha was killed off, there would have never been a chance that Picard could be properly killed off - it made the threat feel real - it gave the intense episodes weight. They didn't have to actually kill off Picard - it was enough of a threat that they could. Tasha and Worf were too similar - they were both warriors, orphaned at a young age, and both found refuge in Starfleet. Both worked in security. They weren't doing anything with either character. By leaving, Crosby forced them to 1) do something with Worf (which worked out really well), 2) For the first time, not to reset instantly to have everything completely fine by the end of the episode, and 3) Write her a brilliant exit that felt meaningful and real, 4) write her a fabulous return (Yesterday's Enterprise). Crosby herself said she has had no regrets either for leaving, or for being associated with the show now. She was happy, it improved the show, and I see that as a win.
Data reminds me of the story of Pinoccio for those that don't know the story or never heard of it use search engine. It's about an old man who makes a wooden boy doll that comes to life . The Old man had no children and so this boy struggles and gets in lot of troubles and at the end he becomes real human.
I'm surprised that no one asked about The Naked Now. With just the two of them on the panel, you'd think it would have come up. Maybe nobody in the room had the nerve? I certainly would have. In my opinion, Data didn't get nearly enough action over the course of the show. Everyone else had multiple relationships over the years. Then again, I hated the episode with Jena. But that was the fault of the writing, not the acting. Jena was written as so stereotypically flighty and needy. God I hated her. And I know it was supposed to be funny, the way Data fumbled all of their interactions, but it just made him look stupid. He had no emotions, but he was highly intelligent. Like I said, just bad writing. I think it would have been more interesting if he had an encounter with a Vulcan. Or a Klingon. Now THAT could have been funny!

And you've never made any mistakes in your life? Would you expect to be punished for the rest of your life when you did? Would you find it reasonable to ignore success from your past because it wasn't permanent? The cast was, and still is, very close. They are like a family. And I doubt very much that the members who continued on the show would appreciate your judgements. You don't know these people. You don't know their lives. To think you have the right to shame them for what you perceive as a bad choice, based on a keyhole knowledge of the circumstances is the real arrogance.
