Inside Microsoft's Massive Headquarters

- Microsoft is one of the most influential and high-tech companies the world has ever seen. But have you ever wondered what it’s like to work there? Microsoft’s sprawling headquarters is no vanilla corporate office - instead, it’s more of a miniature city, with its own transit system, shopping mall, treehouses and even a grimy lake for dunking cocky senior executives. And that’s before we get into the secret underground tech labs where the very future of all our online lives is being developed. Or the hallway where high-fives are mandatory.
So join us today as we don our trusty lanyard and delve deep inside the Microsoft headquarters.
Covering an area of just over 500 acres in the Seattle suburb of Redmond, Washington, Microsoft Headquarters is quite rightly known as a campus. And just like a university or college campus, it comprises dozens of buildings - over a hundred all told - as well as sports fields, woodland trails and secluded courtyards for taking well-earned breaks.

Worked for MS until 2018 (for almost 30years). What a ride - and pretty much nothing to regret!
Congrats to be a millionaire when you used the Stock program in all these years and not sold a single Stock 👍 I am putting in 15% of my salary. Already 30% profit and started working for Microsoft in March 2019.
@@patrickk.1 Yeah it went up like crazy in the early 90th - only to crash in the Dot Com bubble and move sideways for a decade... However, hanging in there and being able to put some of your salary aside will get you into a position where you can decide at some point if you want to keep working for a boss or be your own boss. 😳 MS has still a lot of potential (even though it changed quite a bit) - and what more can you ask for having tons of fun going to work every day and get paid well on top? Good luck, enjoy and make the MS customers happy! Who knows. one day your name may be on the wall in building 33 as well.
RJ W, what area you were working at and what products? Great to hear about former MS...

I remember getting a 2nd interview with Microsoft back in the mid-90s. Their interview process was very unique than any other job I interviewed in my career. The phone interview was about them learning how you think and your thought process. After they flew me up to Redmond, I first met with a recruiting/HR person the next morning to discuss the agenda. I then met with two groups. The first group was the Microsoft Encarta group. You then go out to lunch with a Microsoft Employee from some other group and you talk about any questions you have. I recall back then that everyone gets an office. I then met with the Excel group. The entire process took almost the entire day and I did not get to meet back with HR at the end because of time. The process was very thorough.
"Recent acquisition Minecraft". That happened in 2014, but somehow still feels so recent.

Such a dream to work at any company with a campus like this.
I don’t know why but I just love these type of videos about these amazing tech campuses
Things have changed so much since I first visited in 1990 as a new employee. Loved my 20 years there, but glad to now have a life outside the 60 hour work weeks.
Applies to work at Microsoft thru LinkedIn:
Microsoft: Nvm we already know everything about you. Just wait for interview
Microsoft’s first sentence is disturbing af
I live real close to it and pass by it a ton of times, it looks amazing! I’ve been inside of the tree houses, walked the trail, and been inside the building itself before (don’t remember what building though) I don’t work there, the only reason I could go in was because my friends mom works there. Over all, it’s a really cool place!
I worked at the UK headquarters from 2017 - 2019. To be honest I really miss it! It was nothing compared this campus, though it did still have 6 buildings, a lake and many onsite amenities.
I work here! Great company.

What's the Salary.
Yeah u wish 😌
@@jayus2033 why how do you know? I work here too. I don't doubt her, why would anyone lie about that.. I am a 20 year vet of MS. Look me up on LinkedIn. I have worked in 16, 85 and many other buildings shown in this video. What's so unbelievable about somebody working here.
I can also categorical state that Macs and iphones are not banned. In fact 20-30% of our developers use Macs. When I was in Office development after the Surface RT ARM device failed we decided to ship our software on iOS first. It was a big moment and that was about 8-9 yrs ago. Since then it's never been windows vs. mac. We are a platform agnostic services company. BTW I moved from Azure to Windows recently so this is not about my current team lol.
Lol. Do I smell some toxic envy in this comment section?
Honestly, it's a privilege to work here, and I'm thankful every day!
what is your most favorite building over there?
How’s is it?

Apple Park is better
Windows update sucks
At least we had some actual *inside* footage (unlike the Apple Park video)
That's what happens when a company feels too special.
Microsoft might be way bigger than apple, yet they don't feel like special snowflakes.

But in case you aren’t and you genuinely don’t know
The previous video ‘Inside Apple’s 5 Billion Headquarters’ actually featured only 7.5 seconds of insider footage
My comment was a joke about how we get proper inside footage in this video of MS hq

My niece's husband was a Software Design Engineer there and they lived in Bothell, Washington. Sadly, he died of a heart attack at the age of 49.
Saddened to hear that. May God have mercy on his soul.
Excellent video. It's clear and easy to understand your explanations .thank you so much for sharing your knowledge

second; why would i be selfish, you couldnt possibly make that up out of the small centense u just read. and no, im not selfish
and almost all people who dont finnish school dont become multimilionars. just because like 10 people could do it, doesnt mean everyone can. there is like a 0.0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001 procent change that you would become as rich and succesful as they are, let alone if you drop out of school
and i dont think its cringe that you are trying to motivate people, i thinks thats awesome. its just the way that you do it with all the ''just believe in yourself and everything will be just fine''. life doesnt work that way, its a hard and mean world we live in. if you wanna be succesful you just gotta give it your all and hope for the best
Mandatory high fives in the hallway are such a vibe😂😂 it should be everywhere

Bruh peep this: Mandatory *high fives? That sounds more like a cult, not an employer. Give me freedom of choice.* 🧐
From 4:08 to about 4:30 the video used is the from the Dublin Ireland office building. Not the Commons in Redmond.
I guess the best part is the library in building 92 with some amazing books!
There are those two massive skybridges at 2:39 connected to building 25. They were filled with classic arcade machines along their edges for employees to play for free or tinker with in their offtime during 80 hour weeks. Then Microsoft management in their infinite wisdom ordered the machines removed or they'd be destroyed. Think of that when pondering how Microsoft will handle all the legacy games they just acquired through the buyout that includes all of Activision's back catalog.
I worked there for 20 years... How did I miss the tree house?!

So if you are not close to those locations your only option is relocation, i have meet a few people over my career who are ex-Microsoft though and worked at the Reading site.
