- Revelation 12 1
A great and wondrous sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth.
The Buchanites were a Christian Sect led by the charismatic Elspeth Buchan in the late 18th and early 19th Century Scotland. Elspeth believed herself to be the Woman Clothed in Sun from Revelation, and persuaded some 60 or so folk in her time that this was true. These people joined her in a commune first located in Cample, Thornhill and then they went on to found the Galloway village of Crocketford.
This is a supercut of my 6 part series on the Buchanites.

I make these short #history films as a hobby, so I don't make any money from them. If you have liked what I do, maybe you could buy me a coffee?

So when they cult had no food for 40 days and 40 nights, would it be fair to describe this event as a Buckfast?😆
Very droll 😅
Ok I enjoyed that one 😂 cant say I've ever understood that awful stuff, tried once when young and never again-reminds me of cough mixture lol
It's the ONLY wine worth drinking. 🤣@@teethgrinder83
Disturbing, very interesting story beautifully told. Thank you.
Thank you 🙏
great vid greetings from Atlanta Georgia USA
Thank you 🙏
I am fascinated by the strange millennial cults that sprang up in those days. This was a new one for me, as I've read mostly of American groups or English ones that came to America. Thank you!
Thank you 🙏
Cardinal Stewart, Charlie’s little brother, must have been particularly lamenting not being able to send the inquisition after them.
This woman was presuming to stand in for the Virgin Mary!
She had controversial views for sure. You have to wonder if she would have gotten up to as much mischief today since she could have become a minister in the Kirk. It could have saved her from becoming so unorthodox.
Utterly fascinating. An entertaining presentation of an astonishing history. Thank you.
Thank you 🙏 Glad you enjoyed it!
very entertaining and informative as usual, I really enjoyed this one as I had forgotten the tale that I heard as a wean. well done.
Thank you for watching!
It's some story, that's for sure
no need for thanks. I'm heartened to see and hear of the almost forgotten history of the local area. again, well done and l look forward to many more gems.@gallowayretold6124
A very interesting presentation. Your style is very impressive, more so because you could be the person next door, if you get my drift. Proper
Thank you 🙏
Well done! You tell a story very well, and so eruditely! I subscribed. (From Maryland USA)❤
Many thanks 🙏
Superb, your work is much loved and appreciated !
Many thanks 🙏 I am so pleased people enjoy the stories!
Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Awesome! What intrigue and how astonishing that the cult made such money 👏👌👍
I may return here. I’m just now listening to “The 39 Steps” by John BUCHAN. Isn’t RUclips’s algorithm wonderful? 😊😊
The details, especially about the coffin and corpse, are fascinating. That said, the "heresies" are pretty much standard issue. I was hoping for something more original. The notion that those saved by Christ become incapable of or free from sin goes right back to the early days of the religion. I wonder if Elspeth heard the idea, or if she derived it on her own. I'm not familiar with Christianity, maybe someone in the comments can point to some bits of text that would have led her there.
Nicely told, thank you for the story.
She has a lot of correspondence with a wide variety of ministers and theologians, and read widely herself. That said she also based a lot of her ideas around visions she had as a child, so no doubt a lot of her ideas were pretty standard.
Still fascinating and ultimately, pretty weird as a story!
Glad you enjoyed it.
sounds like the usual narcissistic stuff cult leaders come up with "I could shoot somebody on times square" type stuff
Well done.
Thank you 🙏
Thanks again for a fascinating watch/listen - I'm surprised your Library bosses haven't tried to 'pull' you into heritage (maybe they have, and you didn't want to go - I wouldn't blame you!).
I have a good relationship with heritage, but I live a long way from Dumfries, so I don't work there often. I'm pretty happy working where I do 😃
@@gallowayretold6124 Ok - no negative reflection on the people concerned from me. I simply worked for a while in one elsewhere - it was tedious, and I far preferred the interaction with the 'locals' in the village libraries (where I ended up).
@@richardsmith2820 All good, I didn't pick up on any negativity! I don't think working in a big library would be my thing, I too love the local interaction!
very interesting and well told - maybe the davidson was a relative of mine. poor sound quality though.
Remarkable tale
It really is! Worth telling for sure. 😃
great vid. whare is that gorge?

@@gallowayretold6124 thanks so much thats this weekends walk sorted. cheers
Okay!🤭😊😇
I am less than halfway through . . . and I'll buy you a virtual cup of coffee.
Revelation 12: 14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.
The Vigin Church of the Virgin Queen came to Virginia in 1609. The dragon soon followed and founded Mary's Land.
Thank you 🙏
It seems there was something going on in Elspeth's time, as there was the leader of the Shakers and an English woman who also claimed to be The Woman Clothed in Sun. Its fascinating. I only focus on Elspeth, because she lived in Galloway, but they are intriguing women too.
@@gallowayretold6124 The Great Re-Set is scheduled for 09/23/26, the autumn equinox of the US' and the illuminati's 250th year. That's when THEY unveil the NEON GAUD -- their Light Bearer. But first, Albert Pike's WW 3: God vs God. Is I vs I Am. Thesis vs Antithesis = Synthesis.
God as machine -- the abomination of desolation. "No more war. Forgive our debts. Save us from Omega. We will do Anything!"
I seek no followers.
It seems like the Kirk with an underpinning of Folk Catholic views on Our Lady and emerging Adventist views . . . .
She blended a lot of ideologies in to her mix.
There were a lot of movements like this in Anglophone Christianity at this time, around the time of the 2d Great Awakening in North America . . . .
@@JohnMinehan-lx9ts Indeed. I wondered if it had to do with the expansion of literacy.
@@gallowayretold6124 Certainly a major factor. Additionally, I wonder if the French Revolution and the Rise of Napoleon did not inspire thoughts of the End Times?

Was about to buy you some coffee ........ then saw the pronouns ....
Strange. I bet you use them too. 🤷♀️
@@gallowayretold6124Eh you're welcome to your opinion...... seems obvious to me the reason your channel isnt getting traction and you have so little donations...... shame because your content and delivery is excellent and deserves a much much bigger audience

I dint notice any issues with pronouns? What a bizarrely sensitive comment. This was a great doc.
@@somniumisdreaming I'm confused , surely you're trying to criticise me so shouldn't it be ..... insensitive ? As for the content I've already commented on that I think the subject matter , editing and delivery is excellent and deserves a much bigger audience .
