I know so many hetrosexuals who are so unhappy and not in peace and married for years. I have been in a beautiful loving relationship with my Husband for over 20 years. Incredibly Happy and so at peace so you may need to mention that to your wonderful Dad x

I'm in my sixties. My father disowned me, and told my brothers to forget about me. My mother stood with my father. It is so hard, being gay i remember the suffering, and the fear i had of being found out. Today I live on my own, which I prefer. I'm not in a relationship which is how I want to be. And I'm celibate. Sober and clean. The dealers don't care about your life. They only want your money. They are scum. Please take responsibility of your life. Get a higher power in your life. Take it one day at a time. You are a good person, and don't beat yourself up.

Hi. I think your name might be Carl. I know, I should have played Jessica Fletcher! :-)
Firstly, I'm so sorry that happened to you. It was much more difficult to be gay when you and I were in our teens. Casual, even overt homophobia was everywhere. And our dads were from a completely different era. My dad was tough and other men respected him. He took part in some of the worst fighting in North Africa and Italy in the Second World War. I imagine your dad fought in the war too. They were braver than I am.
At 18 I was convinced my dad already knew I was gay and just wanted me to say it, as he would often tell me how pretty I was, never asked me about girlfriends etc. However, when I wanted to tell him, I just couldn't and would clam up. He fooled me when he said, "Believe me, son, there's NOTHING I haven't done." Well, it turned out that having sex with another man was something he hadn't done after all! He was devastated and walked out. We got together again a few weeks later but he was different. After a while he said, "That thing you told me... Don't ever mention it again." And that was it. He behaved like "the conversation" never happened. That really hurt me.
Stay well, Carl. I'm more than happy to be in touch if you'd like that.
I've just realised... today would have been my dad's 100th birthday. Hopefully he sees the bigger picture now and is very happy at the way my life has turned out. I've been with my partner for 24 years and we've been married for 11. Happy heavenly birthday, dad.

Yes, you are so right! Being Gay is not a choice, no more than being left handed is a "choice", trying to be right handed. Same thing! Thank God it's so much easier to come out today as opposed to a few decades ago.
When I was 18, I had a crush on a friend, 16. I knew he wanted it as much as I did, but we were both too scared to act it out, since we all had the same circle of straight friends and our families all knew each other. This was back in 1966. I'm 74 now. Recently I found out that he had been in the military in Vietnam in the early 1970s, contracted that Agent Orange, which eventually took his life. I could've, should've, would've, but didn't. I know if I weren't so scared back then (afraid of all the vicious gossip, harassment, bullying, and worse!), I could've changed that scenario where he could have still been alive and we could have had a long loving life together. That "what if" haunts me till this very day! I look back and ask myself why should I worry about what other people think, many of whom I don't even know? Even though it was much more dangerous to come out in public back then for obvious reasons, I should have done it anyway. Why should I sacrifice my own happiness just to please someone else? I came out to more long time straight friends and family this past year than I did all the years since I was born put together! And I must say, for the first time I can actually breathe!
Thank God I look much younger than I actually am, due to my healthy eating, active lifestyle (hiking, mountain biking, etc.,) that there is still a chance for me to find that special someone. I also would like someone much younger than I am, because with few exceptions, most guys my age look like they came right out of a nursing home. And thank you for the tip (from one of your other videos) about going on to the Silver Daddies website. I'm relatively new to Internet dating so still trying to navigate through that site. God bless you; you're an angel sent from up above to help so many of us.

Hi Nick. My heart goes out to you. For some reason, I hit your video. I have to confess, at the beginning I thought you were another ordinary all american boy turning gay with a coming out story, and I was about to shut it off. But I couldn't , you kept motivating me by the second, oand n and on...(like a movie when you are exhausted, and it gotta be good to keep you awake) jThen I began to like first your name, then your story, and most importantly your authenticity. Right now(I started watching your video just 2 hours ago) I just have become addicted(metaphorically) to your videos. I have never tried any substance before, not interested either. I grew up in a different country, different world, and I have always loathed junkies, considering them disdainfully despicable. You just changed my mindset, improved my spirituality, and I am so glad your excerpts changed my views on addicts. I am someone new in this regard from this second on. Thanks, thanks galore, the connection I am feeling now is ineffable (cant put it into words). My HEART goes out to you, literally. Blessings.

Nick I just watched the series. Are you in therapy? You have had some serious stress as a child and young adult. You were self medicating in the worst way possible. You need to love yourself and learn how to do that so you can move past the self abuse. Hopefully you have.... Your partner has to understand what you are dealing with and be super supportive. Lots of gay guys really never get over being hated by society for something they have no control over. Therapy is critical because it puts things in perspective. You seem like a great guy with lots of potential. You are a great story teller.

But, you've made these like a TV series where each episode ends in a cliffhanger so you can't wait to see what's going on next time. Netflix should call you about doing a show about all the stuff you've been through. You're so good at telling your story you could star in the series. Nick, first I wanna congratulate you on your journey to sobriety. I know it’s not an easy journey, my brother died indirectly from drug and alcohol addiction.
In telling your story you’re very good at giving the day to day details of the sequence of events. But what’s lacking is the deeper details of what is in your mind and what is motivating you.
For example, how did you rationalize betraying your fiancé’s trust by going back to taking drugs again? what exactly were you thinking? What were the triggers?
These details can be very helpful for people struggling with addiction.
    Best wishes.
