Just in time for Memorial Day. My husband was a Marine and a “traveling soldier” of a different kind. His duty was to deliver the other soldiers home to their families for burial. He stood for 94 funerals & it took its toll on him. He cried every time he heard “Taps”. He took his own final journey 5 years ago. We were married for 43 years or as we would say, “always and forever”.
Your Husband's duty was honestly the most important! Making sure our Nation's Marines were taken to Heavens Gate honorably! Thank you for sacrifice and service along side your husband! 🇺🇲❣
Sorry for your loss and the loss of the other soldiers. Your husband was a hero too!
God bless you and your family!! There's no greater honor!
This is truly beautiful. I'm crying. Thank you, Home Free.💕💕

As a female veteran, I was blown away and got tears in my eyes. You guys just knocked this out of the park. Thanks so much for the beautiful rendition with such emotion!
Jeanene, Thank you for your service. The women get overlooked for their military efforts. The heartache and loneliness you endure are no different than the men.
Home Free, You knocked it out of the park yet again; I loved it!
❤️❤️
Fellow female vet here - this one hit me hard too. Don't they just take your breath away?? ❤❤
Thank you so much for your service ❤️
caught me by surprise that the woman was the soldier. Awesome job and draws attention to my own bias. Just because as a woman I'd never want to be in the military doesn't mean that some women aren't drawn to that occupation.
I'm a 61 yr old vet. Why do I have tears in my eyes.
Heck, I'm not a vet, nor do I personally know anyone who has made that sacrifice, but it brings tears to my eyes too. A solemn reminder to me of what Memorial Day is about. I may not personally know any of those who gave their lives for my freedom, but to me the day has always been about those who did, and just as importantly (if not more so), their families. Those who gave husbands, wives, brothers, and sisters, sons, and daughters... I don't feel, "Thank you," is quite appropriate or sufficient. There is a debt that is owed that can never be repaid. If I could share your grief and pain, I would. May their names and sacrifices never be forgotten.
I hope I don´t cross a line here commenting, cause I am from Europe. But I just wanted to say, that I am really thankful for the service of all those soldiers. We were gifted with peace and freedom after WW2. And US soldiers have always protected our values across the world. These soldiers are real people with families, risking their lives for the benefits of all the western world. Politics aside, I just wanted to say thank you! Thank you so much!
I am a veteran, daughter of a veteran, wife of a veteran, mother of a veteran and grandmother of a veteran. Your song brought tears to my eyes as I spent many years waiting on those letters and praying that the chaplain didn’t come to my door. Bless you for this wonderful song.
Thank your family for their service
Best your entire family! Thanks for your service.
That's a lot of wars for your family to cope through, all of you veterans of war
There are not enough thanks that can be said to you and your family. Hugs and salutes.
Thank you to all of you and yours. Quite a legacy you got there. People like you made this country safe for people like my great grandmother. My great grandfather was a Russian born German with a Jewish wife. Russia passed a law when WW1 began requiring those not Russian by blood to either join the army or leave Russia. They decided that getting out of Europe entirely was probably a good idea and came to this great country. Thank you again.
This song has always made me cry. My husband of 25 years, 100% disabled from his military service, died from his disability on Veteran's Day last year. Thank you, Home Free, for using your talents for good.
Jennifer, I lost my brother in Afghanistan during Desert Storm. I know how hard it is.
Hugs and prayers to you and your family. I am the daughter and granddaughter of veterans.
Thank your husband for his service, RIP Sir
I'm very sorry for your loss and grateful for his service. 🇺🇲
I'm very sorry for your loss and grateful for his service. 🇺🇲
Thank you for representing us female service members and vets
NO. Thank you for your service and sacrifices, both mental and physical. Not a second or a particle of it was forgotten, nor in vain. I don't care what role you held, whether at home or abroad. You did well. Thank you.
I agree with my fellow commenter you are the one in need of our gratitude
@@Katylou1230 Yes and you have it.
My wife had to screen this first to let me know if I was allowed to watch it. I am a retired Marine who served during Desert Shield/Storm and OIF/OEF. I did not come home with everyone I left with. I have lost more Brothers and Sisters in Arms along the way because they could not shake the demons that were created "over there". This weekend is very much about remembering those service members we have lost, but PLEASE do not forget those who are still struggling!!
Home Free, thank you for another tear-jerking, thought-provoking, heart-felt song. Your music is wonderful and your messages are desperately needed. But after "One Voice", and now this, I am ready for another fun song so I can pretend to sing like Tim.
Thank you for your service
Notice that most of the folks that had a problem with the Home Free version were male?! I applaud Home Free for being MORE inclusive!!
As an Army veteran I couldn't have asked for a more heart wrenching song. I almost didn't make it home while I was in Bosnia. You are this first grp that I have heard who recognize that female soldiers make as much sacrifices just like our male counterparts. Ty for that.
Thank you for your service
Abbe, it’s not quite the same level of recognition as this gives but Spirit of the ANZACS by Lee Kernaghan and others (the album was his, the song is a mix of Aus and NZ artists) does it’s best to mention male and female in all positions.
Also I don’t know you but I’m glad you made it home.
I too was in Bosnia in 93/94 respect to you
@@KEATSO433 you as well. I was there in 97 and 98 with IFOR and SFOR.
For me, tim mcgraw song about hanging boots gets me up more than this. But, i think, it depends on your experience.
This song is a classic but this version made me feel seen as a female serving soldier. This version made me cry. It is so beautiful and you all put so much artistry and feeling in your music. Thank you.
Thank you for your service.
I really love how they used a female soldier for this video. I have so many family members that I am proud of for their military service both men and women. It felt nice to see a version showing that a man can wait for his woman soldier too. It's so hard on military families to be separated from the ones they love. I just wish society would appreciate that sacrifice a lot more.
Thank you for your service to this nation and its people
I feel all the time I listen to this song 🥺I love it and can't get enough of it
@@jamieleasure9067 Thank You So Much For Your Service
As a Vet, I can honestly say that there is nothing like receiving a letter from a loved one while your away.
In the Army 15 years, with 2 deployments under my belt, Iraq and Afghanistan, this song brings me to tears every time I hear it. Do like that they showed it from the female point of view. to often some , if not all of the female soldiers are overlooked.
Before having or going to one of the millions of parties that are happening all over the USA this weekend, please remember to take a moment to head down to your local cemetary, maybe lay a flower on the grave of a soldier whose family no longer visits. in the old section, Usually the legion or some other miliary associaion will have marked all grave sights of vets with flags. Have a safe and Happy Memorial day weekend and don't froget why you have he rights that you do.
I spent an hour doing that for all vets with our Boy Scout troop. It's the least I can do for the ones who fought for our rights.
Thanks for the reminder and beautiful way to show Honor and Respect to our fallen Heros.
No matter the Branch, Serving our Country thru Military service is a display of giving back to the Homeland.
So much we take for granted. We become wasteful and neglect Respecting All that Allows US that Freedom.
So least we forget, the MANY who have walked before, forging the path that offers OUR Future.
Pause the busy life for a few brief moments....
and Give Respect to the Honorable.
And may GOD BLESS The USA!
Mary, I go into my closet. I have my father's inspection ready uniform there, he passed 1995 and my father-in-law's leather flight jacket, he passed 1987.
My Dad would say "Semper Fi" to that.
My step grandpa was Navy. WWII. His ship sank and he watched all his friends die. He was haunted by it. Very quiet. Sad. I actually hadn't thought to visit his grave but I will!! Thank you for the reminder! Freedom isn't free and we need to remember that!🇺🇸
It is Aug 28, 2021 we have just lost 13 souls in Afghanistan and I just read about John Rich's bar setting a place for the lost and how various Texas roadhouse are doing the same. I was in tears over that. Then listening to the various Home Free music I saw this song. I knew I shouldn't have listened. Vietnam era vet that prayed we would never see our service members betrayed like we were, but here we are again. My heart aches.
As an old retired soldier, I must say that war sucks.
#femalesoldier
Thank you so much for recognizing the Female Service Members. This is huge. A major step for FEMALE service members and veterans. We served too. I am proud to say I #fightlikeagirl
I currently in the Army Reserve and have had several Sisters in Arms that have been in a combat environment. Again, thank you so much for your continuous support of the Female Service Members.
As a female vet, thank you for doing this with the female being the one deployed.
The fact that the soldier is the one that’s ‘too young’ is heartbreaking.
Thanks for the nod to females who also serve. I am an Air Guard veteran who is dealing with a disability. This was great.
God bless you and keep you always.
Thinking of our recent fallen brothers and sisters. God speed.
As a retired combat veteran who has lost friends, this hits home. Thank you HOME FREE
Thank you for your service
@@dianajenkins2220 thank you for your support
Thank you for your service! 😐7🇺🇸
thank you sir for what you have done for this country we are in debt to you for what you have done for us
liar
I’m a female veteran!! This was beautifully done!! Love you guys and appreciate this!! Thank you for remembering all who served but especially the females who often get overlooked!!
This song made me think about when my New Husband was drafted, we got married, I was 16 he was 19! I moved from Ohio to Illinois, lived with his parents, finished High School! He made it home from Nam but never the same laughing young man who left!
I love that this represents the female soldier
Just perfect for Memorial Day. Beautifully done. I was raised in the Army and married a man in the Army. Thank you for your support of the military. My soldier went to his final rest this past February. He served in Viet Nam so many years ago. We were married for 46 years.
So sorry for your loss😔
Thank your service member for his service. RIPSir
o7
In case this gets lost in translation the o is the head of a person and the 7 is a salute. And if he was enlisted, tell him to shut up and take his honor. He earned it.
This one tore my heart out. I am a vet, and I know many of those stories.
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve watched this video. I served 31 years in the Army and have never heard a song that switched the words to apply to a female Soldier. Thanks soooo much Home Free! Love Y’all so much!
Thank you for your service 🇺🇸
I give you sincere thanks, as well. ❤
My daughter was in the Navy. So many times she felt alone but mothers pray.
It hurts to think of my beautiful daughter who struggled for four years and still has times where she doesn't feel a part of a family.
LOL... me too, it's so addictive.
Thank You So Much For Your Service.
Loved that u changed gender! THANKS TO ALL OUR MEN N WOMEN serving to keep me safe at home, proud to have my birthday on Memorial day ! RIP uncle randy USMC , gramps Army, many uncles in arm n navy
Canada calling. I live almost next to a large cemetery that dates back to the 1850s; I have often walked through it (especially lately with lockdowns keeping me off work). There are at least two American soldiers buried there, Civil War veteran Nelson Stevens (whose marker was placed quite recently after some sleuthing by a local historian) and Col. William Winer Cooke of Little Big Horn fame...I shall walk through the cemetery again and pay my respects to those two soldiers this weekend. Thanks for the reminder.
My son was in the Navy, a medical corps, went to Afghanistan, I Thank God every day that he made it back home. Married now with 2 precious boys! This song makes me remember how scared I was just waiting every day.
Remembering the Heroes who never came Home🎖💜🏅🟥⬜🟦🙏⭐🙏And the Gold Star Families
Though I'm a male Veteran, we've all served. The first letters on any uniform are "U.S.". The more we remember that, and the common fight we all have, have had, or will have, the better off we all are. Great job, like always, Home Free!
Thank you for your service
I’m the son of an Army Veteran, Nephew and Great Nephew of two United States Marines, Grandson of a Decatur Township Fire Department Chief/Fire Inspector and I’m a National Registered EMT-B soon to be Paramedic Student serving under that same Old Glory American Flag. Proud every second to do so!
Hear me out, hear me out... Tim's bass line on the words "Went down and they sat on the pier" is just.... OH MY GOD. Absolutely beautiful ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The switch was done so respectfully to the original. Just as powerful, just as emotional sucker punching. Great job ya'll.
I am a female Army Vet... this is so touching. Thank you so much for your version... I absolutely love it!
Thank you for your service
My eleven year old daughter's favorite song. She is a Sea Cadet and looks forward to one day serving her Country.
I can say it hurts a bit and I get tears when I hear her singing this song daily. Pray that God will keep her and all that protect and serve safe.
Dittos. God bless your precious daughter and keep her safe, always. You too. 🥰 ❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
I can't listen to this song without tears. As an army brat, I witnessed the letter coming home to say they were never coming home to neighbors. The fear that the next one would come and destroy my family. I was lucky in that my grandfather was too much of a pencil pusher for that letter to come. Still with six kids, me and my grandmother all on base, in one of those tiny homes. It just means we knew every time every neighbor recieved that letter. We knew there were letters and waited in our homes afraid it would be for us.
I'm a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom. I have a quest to find songs about women soldiers and veterans. THANK YOU so much for this. I cried.
Just as good as the original. Thanks from an old veteran. Dong Ha, RVN 25 January 1968
Thank you for showing in such a poignant way that not all soldiers are men. Thank you for remembering those of us who have served, frequently unrecognized. Thank you for sharing the beautiful gift of your wonderful voices.
Very true words and you're totally right that some don't get the recognition they deserve.
That being said, it is a song, written by women, about a young woman missing a male soldier.
This one made me cry 😢. As a mother that has a daughter currently in the USAF this one hits hard. God bless our troops.
Ma'am, as a veteran of the finest Air Force this planet has to offer I can assure you she is in good hands. I was Security Forces, the law enforcement of the Air Force, and our first order is to ensure the safety and well-being of all personnel and property within base limits. As the teachers of law enforcement and security to the other branches, she is well protected by some very fine individuals. 🫡
@@Sptn051 ❤️ Your kind words are a balm for this mother's worried mind. I also want to thank you for your service and the sacrifices I'm sure you made in the service to your country. Many blessings to you dear💓
I come from a military family/extended family and I have nothing but respect for all who serve. God bless all of them! 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
My husband retired 3 years ago.
This song brings back those moments I was reading his letters from overseas. Thank God each time he came back alive.
Now, If I can stop bawling 😭!
Thank you to everyone who has served in the US military, any branch. My grandpa served in WW2 Pacific theater repairing the big guns on his destroyer and my dad was USAF pre- Vietnam. Both are long passed back through the Veil and dearly missed.
Bless each veteran this Veteran's Day. Thank you for your service.
Happy Memorial/Armistice Day to our late veterans 😢
Gonna see Home Free June 4th! Sure hope they play Traveling Soldier!
I am new to Home Free. Even though I do not live in America I am grateful to those who put their lives on the line to keep others safe. May the families of those serving as well as those at home be blessed or their service. From someone across the ocean from South Africa.
Home Free, You guys are totally awesome. I cried watching your video. THANKS TO ALL OF THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO FIGHT FOR ALL OF US HERE AT HOME. MY GOD BLESS EACH AND EVERYONE. PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND SAFE. LOLWV
Glad to see another 🇿🇦 discovered Home Free. I think they're the best group ever in my opinion.
I've listened to quite a lot of their stuff on YT. Amazing! 🤩
as a Daughter and Granddaughter and niece of Veterans (WWII and Vietnam) Thank you Yolanda Claassen !
Welcome to the home fries club you will never be disappointed
God bless our women veterans 🇺🇸
Better than the original, y'alls harmonization is just flawless.
Kinda made me misty eyed guys. As a veteran (PGW) this is the first time I've heard a song with the woman as the vet, I found it unexpectedly touching...great cover, thank you. Here's to all my brother's and sister's who never made it home, God Bless you.
thank you for your service
My husband is currently overseas. So this one hit home. 😭
Thank your husband for his service
And thank you for yours, supporting him!
My prayers are with you. God bless
All versions of this song are spirit crushing. This is an especially good version, but damn. As a veteran this hits hard. Cause I made it home.
That you made it home is a good thing and I'm so glad you did. So did my husband, who is a Vietnam Vet. God bless all of you who serve/served.
My husband did 3 tours overseas with the Marines. Not all who made it home made it home. Thank you for creating this. I needed a good cry.
Absolutely beautiful version of this song guys, beautiful.
It feels so good how Home Free honors the ones who serve their country.

Hello Henriette how are you doing today ?

As a home fry fan and a retired army soldier this song hits deep on this weekend!!!!! Love your songs RIP all my fellow tomahawks who didn’t make it home

HOME FREE EVERYWHERE
Here a couple days after memorial day. When I was a kid my neighbor was a veteran and every year I would make him a poster as a thank you for his service. Ever since I was 5 years old. They passed earlier this year as they were in their 90s but I wish I could say thank you one last time
Only band that percussion make me emotional! 😭. That snare gives me chills! Rupp stunning! I will be preordering this album! As a family member to many veterans, this hit hard! 🇺🇸. Thank you to all veterans and family members for your service and sacrifices to protect freedom! Thank you Home Free! ❤️
Thank your family for their service
As a 'Travelin Soldier' I want to say Thank You to all the loved ones waiting at home. As hard as being away on a deployment is, those at home have to continue to live life, while constantly wondering what is happening. In my opinion, that is a way harder thing to deal with daily! And as always, nice job Home Free!
Yes! You always wonder if your family member or friend is safe. And you can't know where they are for security. It's scary and frustrating.
Bless your heart! I'm the wife of a Vietnam Vet who did make it home safely and it was hard for him to be away and in danger like he was, even more so because we had a baby girl. I'm so thankful for him and for you. Thanks for the comforting, caring words. Even though they are way past my husband's service, I find comfort in what you said. God bless you and keep you and yours in His loving care, always.
I am so proud of my "traveling soldier" He didn't serve he wanted to but he worked on the road after we got custody of his two children. I raised five He married me almost 15 years ago. I love him forever and a day.
1980 traveling to Korea on a military transport, sitting on wooden seats for over 12 hours. Next to me was a young sailor heading to Japan. We talked for hours. Promised we would keep in touch and did for a bit, but then life got in the way. I was 19 and scared. He helped me get through a tough period. I wish I knew where he was, what became of him. If he is out there and happens to read this, thank you from a 19 year old female Army Corporal!
And this is Jen’s mom Barbara, not Jen. Jen was not even a thought in my head in 1980!
As a female Veteran I thank you for switching words to recognize our service as well. Love this!
Not only beautiful, but heart-wrenching. I love this song! Memory Eternal to all our precious military who didn’t make it home. My great grandfather (civil war), father (navy and Air Force) father-in-law (army), husband (coast guard), brother-in-law (navy), and son-in-law (marines) have all served with distinction. I’m grateful they all came home alive. God bless our troops.
I sobbed when this song came out and it was a young man passed....and I sobbed again with this version. I had/have family members who served/serve-both males & females. Until they actually come home, you run to the mailbox hoping for a letter from your loved one. You peek when the doorbell rings, praying it’s not someone in “dress blues”. Had family members who were/are members of Police/Sheriffs offices, and someone on your doorstep in a dress uniform, with a man in a collar were met with sobs. Firemen are the same way. Thank you for the tears....music should invoke feelings.....truly well sung music invokes many feelings....any your songs always invoke a gambit of feelings, thank you!
Home Free still my favorite! It's Feb. 11, 2024! Hope they make it back to Cincinnati! Love them so much!
Again thank you for covering this song and putting your home free touch on it. It is oftentimes forgotten that our country has suffered the loss of many military women. For that this army vet salutes you. Hugs and much love this memorial day, stay safe and keep the music coming.
Thank you for your service
Hello Tammy how are you doing today ?
thank you for your service
Beautiful song, memories of writing my letters, female navy/marine vet 14/yrs
Thank you so much for your service. I was so pleased that the song was sung from a woman's side.
Great job honoring our female soldiers
Amen, I too served for over 26 years in combat arms before I retired from the army. I wear a simple bracelet made out of aluminum with an inscription on it that keeps me going during the tough times….. “TU NE CEDE MALIS, CONTRA AUDENTIOR ITO”. “DO NOT GIVE INTO EVIL! BUT PROCEED EVER MORE BOLDLY AGAINST IT”
I am a Aussie vet but I never got into American country music until I heard these blokes, total respect and admiration of your talents lads.
Then you really have missed out. Country music by and large is real-er than rock, especially when it comes to women. There are some unbelievably awesome country songs out there. There are some crappy ones too, but pop and rock aren't immune to crap either.
Prepare to have your heart strings tugged to the extreme!
@@marythompson558 we just lost one of the best Australian Country Music Icons. Joy McKean was not only Slim Dusty's wife but Manager and songwriter as well as being a Singer in her own right with her Sister Heather (McKean Sisters) she was 93.

Love this song.
As a veteran who has lost friends, I couldn’t stop crying. You guys have such a wonderful sound and you make the emotions ring through.
This song made me cry! Got married at 16, husband went to Viet Nam, school told me I could not go to Prom! Why would I want to, my husband was in Nam! Then said I couldn't graduate with the rest of my class, told them I had an 4.0 average, and they could stick that diploma where sun didn't shine, I earned my grades, I got to graduate with everyone! Love ya, Home Free!
What DON'T you guys do? Gets me everytime. I have been "away" and come home. Thanks be to God.
Playing this, Sharing this
On Memorial Day.
As a Viet Nam era Navy vet, this song reminds of my fiance writing letters to me every day for an entire year when I was stationed overseas. I would receive them in batches at a time, since mail delivery was only twice a week. Her devotion in sending those letters were a Godsend to me. We were married when I returned stateside, and so far it has been a wonderful 51 years. I would to thank you for the great collaboration you did with Lee Greenwood, on your July 4th release of God Bless The USA last year, and for releasing Traveling Soldier during this Memorial Day Holiday. We have had the pleasure of seeing you guys 4 times live on stage, and hope you make to the Pacific Northwest sometime soon. It has been awhile. It has been a Home Free drought up here. Thank you Home Free for your patriotism and for honoring those in all the branches who are and have served this great nation of ours.

My sister is about to go in and I shared her with this right away. Thank you for honoring female soldiers, this was beautiful.
Thank your sis for enlisting and serving her country. May she be safe.
God bless you and your sister.
Lots of people thank us for our service these days but you guy did a first class job. Women have served since the Revolution and in the last two wars served still as unequal second class citizens but we believe in a united America. I did my 21 years and I hope the young of today will carry the torch. Thanks Again.
No words. There’s something in my eye so I’m just leaving it right here.
I love the role reversal. Our female heroes do not receive enough recognition. I ran missions in Iraq with just as many women as I did men and they did the job flawlessly.
Thank you for your service
Love this song... anxiously waiting to hear how you put the "Home Free spin" on it .... I just know it's going to be AMAZING!!!!! God Bless the USA and all those that have fought and died defending her.... ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
Home Free. You all always blow it out of the park singing the songs. Your version of this made me 😭😭😭😭😭. Thank you for reminding us that women also serve. This song pulls at the heart strings. If it wasn't for the boots on the ground we wouldn't have our freedom.
I post this every Memorial and Veteran's day on my discord server. I would on the last refrain, though, switch the a for "your soldier", because in your heart they are always your soldier.
This so beautiful. Y'all always always make me cry. My hubby just left and I treasure his calls and texts. He's not a letter writer. Thanks for your beautiful music.
Thank your husband for his service
Loved it. I went overseas while my husband stayed home with the kids. Its nice to have someone showcase the female soldiers perspective for a change.
thank u to all those who have served and are currently serving. and thank u to the families of those who serve.
You have the absolute best version of this song. It always touches my heart and brings tears to my eyes. It brings back memories of all the close friends I lost in Vietnam, and evokes the heartache of everyone who ever lost a loved one on foreign soil. Thank you for such a beautiful and heartfelt rendition.
Definitely bringing good feelings to me for my Poppy. He was a WWII and Vietnam Australian Army Veteran. Major General Sydney Andrew Turner - VC, DSC. He's been my inspiration for basically everything in my life and the whole reason for me wanting to serve. Unfortunately I didn't go well with Army, so I went for Police instead, and I have been in the Police Force for over 17 years now. If it wasn't for him, I don't know if I would be a police officer, so this song bringing back memories of him definitely brings me through a journey in my life.
Much love to you Home Free from the Australian Federal Police. 👮♂️ ❤️
I love this interation of that classic song - especially with a female soldier and non-caucasion partners. It doesn't hurt that your harmony is fantastic. Makes me cry every time. I, too, am a female veteran, altho I'm white.
I had my epiphany moment when I spent an everning on a practice range, shooting tracer rounds with my M16, then had to go do guard duty on that range. I'm standing on a back path, less than 50 feet from a target, and I felt like someone had me in their cross hairs. Words cannot express how frightening that was.
God bless you and keep you in His loving care always and thank you for your service.
This reminds me of when I got the knock on the door that told me my twin was gone. R.I.P. O-5 O'Reilly.
