    I know everyone knows how great Tim is but honestly Austin is the first high-tenor I’ve heard who doesn’t sound squeaky when hitting high notes, he is easily one of my favorite voices in the music industry.

    • @hutchmusician
      @hutchmusician 4 года назад +63

      I agree. For me it's between Austin and Chance for the best voices in this group. Tim (whom I love) can do lots of stuff with that mad range but IMHO he's not world-class at anything apart from that amazing growl technique he busts out sometimes (edit: his arranging skills are also excellent - see Helplessly Hoping etc). Austin and Chance, on the other hand, have legit top-quality 'recording' voices. Austin's voice soars thrillingly without apparent effort and Chance's is as rich, warm and engaging as anyone in that laid-back country bass-baritone style. I don't want to leave out Rob here - he has more soul in his delivery than anyone else when he feels like it (see End of the Road!) but he's lighter-sounding and not so polished as Austin. Overall though I think Home Free are significantly more than the sum of their parts. I wouldn't expect any of them to do really great things solo but as a quintet they absolutely rock my world.

      I heard this song on Spotify before I saw the video and I was like, " I don't think this high voice is Austin or Rob, who could it be?... and that deep part from Tim, marcellous but this just doesn"t sound like Tim....why?" And then I checked out the video :)) And my jaw dropped. I was always amazed by Tim's low notes and still, this was a moment when I said to myself, this guy must be a genetically mutant person, now way can someone be this talented. But he is. :)) And of course I did fell in love with Chance's voice as well.

    Ok, I just realised that I keep praising Tim and Chance and even Austin and Rob, but I never mention Adam's skills without which the songs would only be half as awesome. Adam, your beat boxing, and sound effect skills are off the charts and I know you also work a lot on the arrangements, which are almost always even better than those of the original versions, this song being a case in point. Also the moments when we get to hear you sing are (too) rare and precious gems.

    This feels so different from what you usually do and I LOVE it. So somber, but still gives all of you a moment to shine. Adam's beat is amazing for the song, and I like how you all got a big moment. Tim just nailed the tenor from the beginning. Rob's verse was beautiful and there was so much emotion in it! Austin just kills the chorus every time. But WHOA--Did. Not. See. Chance. Coming. His moment gave me CHILLS. I don't know if I have ever heard him nail a note like that before. Just WOW. Loved seeing Tim and Chance completely reverse roles for this song, what an awesome surprise. Way to go, guys!!! Keep it up and see you all for the FIRST TIME in March!!!!!

    I liked Chris Rupp but I love Adam Chance. I became a huge Home Free fan back when Chris was still part of the group, and they were really good then, but I honestly think that they are even better now. I think that the big difference is the difference in their ranges. With the range that Adam Chance has, in my honest opinion, I think it makes the group more versatile. Before they wouldn't have been able to do this arrangement this way and this was amazing!

    • @gregw9351
      @gregw9351 4 года назад +15

      I agree with you. I love that they (Chance and Tim) alternate the bass range notes, but I also love that there is more of the baritone- range notes in their arrangements now. There was much less of that when Chris was in the group, since he'd trio with Rob and Austin at the top range most of the time. I'd love it if Chris were to return (and he did start the group in the first place, so props there!), but I wouldn't want Chance to go anywhere if he did return. Chance's solos are great and he adds so much, IMHO, when he's harmonizing!

    • @hutchmusician
      @hutchmusician 4 года назад +16

      Fully agree. I love Chris Rupp and we all owe him an enormous debt of gratitude for what he did for this group over twelve years (check out his solo stuff, it's wonderful!), but Adam Chance is arguably the best thing that's ever happened to Home Free. Like Tim, he's so versatile that he increases exponentially the possibilities for arranging, and whilst Tim's low growl is just astonishing, Chance has his own party trick in that delicious rich tone when he takes the lead, far better than Tim's if I'm honest. For me, it's between Chance and Austin for the best 'recording' voice in this group (although I love Rob for his personality and soul!). Amazing that they have so much capability in one group.

    Thank you Home Free. I married in 1985 and, in 1993, while pregnant with my second child, I realized that my marriage would end someday and that I would have to be the one to call it. It took me 10 years from that day to finally jump ship and take my kids into a new life. Now that daughter is 28. She has asked me off and on for the last few years what it felt like during those last 10 years of marriage. I’ve never been able to nail it done exactly. Thank you for doing it for me. When she is home with her fiancé from Nashville at Thanksgiving, I will now have this to point to - this song, sung in the way you have, is exactly like those years felt. (God and a sense of humor gently rocked us into the beautiful, fun and joyous lives we have today.) By the way, I wanted BADLY to see you in Columbus a couple weeks ago but couldn’t work it out. I’ll catch you in Nashville in 2022. Keep making the beautiful music happen!

    How do you get this haunting song out of your head? Beautiful harmonies.

    Absolutely brilliant! The guys all get to show off their (some unexpected, at least to me) ranges (Tim starting on tenor, Chance coming in on bass, etc., etc.); and their harmonies are so tight, the arrangements are fantastic; and their pitch (in-tune-ness) is over the moon phenomenal. They just keep getting more polished! I would love to see them Perform at the CMAs next year!! (As a long-time musician with a great ear, I really appreciate their arrangements, incredibly tight chords, and 'right-on' pitch.

    If voice was a magical power, Tim would be OP. That kind of range just isn't fair.

    what a richness, Tim singing tenor, Chance bass, Rob en Austin as smooth tenors and then a beatboxer who is so suberb and tastfull, this is the best of the best!

    I used to hate cover songs... now I can't wait to see what Home Free covers next. This song is like honey to my ears.
