@@itbagentx7765 as someone from Croatia, I highly doubt it. Team is now great and all, if not better, but there was a lot of luck and great penalty goalkeeping by Subašić in this run to be honest, and it's gonna be hard to top this up

I hope to watch the best of the best from Croatia in 2022. This team was very solid. The teamwork throughout their games were simply astonishing.

some people say that Croatia was lucky because they had easy opponents and because they went through with penalties, but I would say that they were not very lucky. Opponents were not easy: Denmark, Russia (which kicked out the powerful Spain) and England. Croatia went to overtime three times, two of which went to penalties, and in all three games they were better and could have won in 90 minutes, but they were unlucky. And in the final, Croatia lost their confidence after an own goal and a penalty, even if they were better in the first half

I remember this like it was just yesterday. This penalty shootout was intense. Heartattack after heartattack xD
Subašić was the 2nd in history to save 3 penalties and Livaković became the 3rd with 3 saves against Japan. So having 2 of our goalkeepers plus Ricardo (the commentator mentioned him) is actually insane. It does make me really proud that these two croatian names are written in the football history book.
Btw Schmeichel was insane too, he also deserved every praise that day.

Subasic cant even stay at his line at penalties, if those penalties were taken today they would be retaken. Goalkeeper must stay at their line before ball is touched, and a gk that doesnt know that basic rule shouldnt win gk of the tournament

People really don't know that in 2018 goalkeepers were allowed to go off the line when saving penalty. xD That rule was invented after 2018 wc.

If I'm not wrong it basically wasn't a rule in this World Cup. Obviously they'd punish you for just walking off your line but I think it was something like you could take one step off before the shot. That's just conjecture because I'm not looking it up, though.

I remember i was watching this penalty drama at 2 AM at my house... I saw it myself cause all of my family had sleep already... I was shocked when Schmeichel saved Modric penalty at extra time... Then when this penalty shootout drama began... I was watch it in lots of laugh because this is just like the endless penalty i've ever seen... What a moment

Amzing indeed from both GKs, no doubt saving a penalty is hard, however it shows that VAR was experimental as at least the last 3 kicks were saved via encroachment, and possibly all 5.

5:51 schone was understandably too nervous. 3 steps out subasic was already leaning to his right and schone didn't manage to divert it the other way.

If the new rule where goalkeepers have to keep their feet on the line till the penalty is hit, Suvasic’s every save would have been disallowed.
On the other hand in Livakovic is simply a beast not only in the shoot out but also in open play.

If one foot is on the line is on the line then it is valid. If it is not it is to be repeated if the goal is not scored.
Both goalkeepers were. On one the yellow keeper was like two feet off his line. Go back and slow down the speed and pause it when they make contact with the ball. Especially from the back view. You’ll see.
