So it’s clear that the M1 is amazing, but it’s clearly not perfectly scaled up to desktops as we would like it to be, it will be interesting how all of this evolves in the future
Having never owned a Mac before but now wanting to get into it because of M1 hype. I have now concluded that I wished they'd made an older style iMac as it's swan song like they did with the air, pro, mini. I'd just like that style with M1

As a content creator, whether video or photo or similar colour work, you really don’t want bright colours around the screen. So no. But it is clearly designed to be viewed from behind, not just put into a dark corner.
I think the IMAC 27” 2020 is the best deal quality price, you get the chance to upgrade the RAM, the I5, or I7 will work very well because you don’t need to care much about overheating or power consumption on such big desktop, the AMD graphics is on another level especially the 5700 16gb XT, and the T2 chip, the already good screen with true tone and those nice speakers and the 1080P camera, black bezels..run some real engineering software on Microsoft bootcamp..ok i am biased, but i own a 2020 intel macbook air and i think the M1 M-air is much better…it’s a completely different story when it comes to the IMacs though.

That’s very respectable for $1700. The M1 iMac will make an excellent machine for someone who likes the style and needs its capabilities and no more. Excellent Zoom/webex, great for photo editing, FaceTime, etc.
As always great video. I was in Apple store today looking at the 24 in the blue and in the silver. They were both stunning products. These machines represent an incredible value overall and I am inclined to just get this over the larger iMac coming but I think prudent to see what the other looks like in terms of size and whether it offers a matte display option. But I looked at the 24 next to a 27 and it was impressive.
This new design its aswsome and now I really want one!! The only thing is, the iMac Pro speakers literally gave me chills due to their volume and bass drop coming from a _computer._ It was _incredible._ I might have to get one of those too lol!
The “useless” eject key is a very commonly used key if you shortcut to turn off your Mac; Cmd + Opt + Alt + Eject = shutdown computer. I use it all the time. Hope that they have considered this….
I must say the lack of eject key is a pretty big loss for me - I use it every day to turn off my Mac with a keyboard shortcut (ctrl+opt+cmd+eject). That's why I'm still on A1048 keyboard 😅
You were using a different os on the two models - macOS Big Sur 11.3 on the 24" M1 iMac and macOS Catalina 10.15.7 on the 27" Intel iMac. Would this make a difference anywhere, e.g. the browser test? Did you do any comparisons using the same version of OS on both?
Have you seen the 8 core i7 vs the 10 core i9 comparison? The one where they compare 8 core i7 vs 10 core i9 chip sets - running on machines with differing amounts or RAM and different graphics cards with different amounts of VRAM?
I'm using an M1 Mac Mini with Final Cut Pro for video. My M1 is light years ahead of my previous system (i7, 32GB Macbook Pro). The 16GB M1 cost $1800 (Australian), the MBP cost over $6600. Remember these synthetic benchmarks are not real life.
It is adapted to the “work at home” situation, with the magnetic connection, longer cable, lighter weight, Ethernet in the brick and better looking back. It’s very easy to put it on the diner table. The only thing missing is a built in battery.

Great review ... and I'm a fan of the white bezels ... computing has been so black/grey and boring for so long ... nice to see some colour ... something that you can make your own.
It’s funny these people are complaining about the bezels being white but go back to the i Mac G4 and G5 and the they all had white bezels. I agree I love these colors each and every color is beautiful in every aspect. The silver looks pretty dull to be honest.
Its pretty deceiving that Apple is sending Magic trackpad in Reviewers units. I thought that the trackpad was also included with the package, but looking at retails units, it doesn't look like that case.
@@akshay7035 the $129 upgrade option to add the trackpad to the mouse/keyboard pair is a good deal! The discontinued Space Gray trackpad retails for $149
Trackpad all the way. I actually use the wireless mouse with AA battery so that I can always use it. It’s baffling that I have to write such a sentence.
The soldered on RAM is not going to work for me. Once you start running docker stack with 3 or 4 images, plus your IDE, 16GB gets eaten up pretty quickly. I prefer having the option to upgrade my RAM and SSD.
They also should have increased the vertical height of the screen, get a weird aspect ratio, but that might be awesome for anyone who wants more screen space
I ended up taking advantage of Apple’s extra trade-in credit event happening right now and got myself the high-end version yellow 24” iMac with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD. Basically it’s the exact specifications of my current MacBook Pro 13” but I really wanted a desktop since I have an iPad Pro 2018 as my portable device and I needed a bigger screen. The extra trade-in credit made it worth it, just sucks it won’t ship until July.
Thanks for the Apple promotional video! I don't understand the big hype about the new 24" iMac. It's a small entry-level iMac and unfortunately has very few USB inputs and especially no SD card reader. For a stationary computer, these shortcomings are very serious, so the bright colors don't really help. The screen only has 60Hz (old and cheap technology), no 120Hz and there is no matt glass. The M1 is very well suited for a laptop as it consumes little power. But neither for a Mac Mini nor for an iMac is the M1 designed. The Mac Mini and an iMac are plugged into the wall socket. The big weakness is noticeable in both, it lacks a dedicated graphics card and expandability of the working memory beyond the currently available 16 GB. Overall, I can therefore not recommend buying one, it is a step backwards in my opinion!
Could you please make a video of connecting two external monitors with this iMac 24 inch? That is my dream setup but I'm not sure if using a dock would affect the performance. Please make it as soon as possible.
The new magnetic plug for the power into the new imac is great cuz I plug and unplug heaps every day... and it'll be great to be easier to remove so the computer can crash without power suddenly.... Seriously do they think it's a portable laptop or something?
Still feeling proud of my exact same 2020 iMac (except 32GB RAM). Were I to think of going newer at all, I'd wait for at least M1X, if not M2 or M2X. My reason to stay put right now with my desktop is because of boot camp... Plus it's not even a year old.
Basically gear lust, the appeal of the new shiny, in this case literally from the back, whatever you call that cool effect of the colour shifting at different angles. I bet your current setup does everything you need of it. I have a 2013 model, so time for an upgrade anyway.
please do a comparison between the 24 inch iMac and the 21.5 inch iMac and compare the speakers. I have the 4k 21.5 inch and I think the speakers are better Than the 24 inch but, I havant heard them together so please do a vid comparing them. Thanks -Michael
6:06 but the old method had the advantage of being replaceable with any standard PC power cable. Now if this power cable breaks, you’re SOL unless you pony up for an apple replacement. That’s my biggest complaint with this generation iMac
Yeah I don’t see this new connector as an advantage. It’s nice for a laptop, but for a desktop? You’re not going to trip over a chord behind your desk, the magnetic connection is pointless there. Also I really dislike that there is a separate power brick taking up desk space too.

Thank you, I've been waiting for this comparation brother. 😁
Also, looking forward for your video comparation of the new iPad Pro 2021 vs 2020.
Me too ✌️this video comparison is better than other channel.
Is it fair to do performance comparisons when you're running two different versions of macOS (Catalina v. Big Sur)?
i want ipad pro 2020 vs 2021 comparision
I would still go with the 27inch iMac Pro because it's got more value and the convenience of adding more ram
you mean the regular 27inch imac, which has user replaceable RAM. The Imac PRO sadly does NOT have that.
Doesn’t make sense to use an old design, though.
@@user-lp2nz7vq6b, but it makes even less sense to use new, since nothing people complained about, like chin or bezels, was fixed, and visually it looks like it's from 2005
tbh, u can get a m1 mac mini, with a monitor a windows all in one, and both will be better than the imac [unless ur video editing]
Am I the only one wishing the dark blue was on the bits you spend most of the time looking at?
Light colors are easier on the eyes and look better with the bezels. Apple did the research.
As a content creator, whether video or photo or similar colour work, you really don’t want bright colours around the screen. So no. But it is clearly designed to be viewed from behind, not just put into a dark corner.
Get a second one for your friend or coworker. 😆
@@user-lp2nz7vq6b In the video world - the brightest thing in the room should be the monitor ... so it really depends on what you use it for ...
The inside of the connector is blue but the surface of the mouse is white. What kind of priorities are those?
The white bezels are starting to grow on me.... I just knew this was gonna happen... wish i can see it in person though to make a purchase decision. If I had black bezels not doubt I would be getting this.
lol you have a girl name 😂
@@TuristaArcsi yeah it's because I am a girl. I'm Lesbian and have my hair short and like to lift heavy weights. What's the problem with that? And I kickbox for workouts too. Don't judge a person by the book.
@@mariaturner371 sorry, i didnt zoom on your profile pic ! You looks like a woman indeed 🤗 gim girls are hoot
How to make the 2021 iMac better, just put a apple sticker in the middle of the bezel
I really wanted this comparison!! U really include every aspect which is super good, love ur comparisons
When it comes to port you can add a dongle on one of the USBC ports. If you don’t want the dongle hanging off you can use double sided tape and tape it to the back.
So… how’s the black market doing with coloured Apple logo stickers? Must be like football card collecting for some people!
IMO, design of the iMac 27 keeps on being way more beautiful than the newer iMac 24 M1
You can see the elegance of what use to be approved by steve jobs him self and cheapness of what’s approved by tim cook!
That’s very respectable for $1700. The M1 iMac will make an excellent machine for someone who likes the style and needs its capabilities and no more. Excellent Zoom/webex, great for photo editing, FaceTime, etc.
Wow side by side the original iMac looks soooooooo much better than the new one.
Fact: Apple always designs the back of the device better than the front.
Because 90% of the front is just a piece of glass what they can do anymore? :)
@@baranicer 95% of the back is just metal/glass and still look good btw.
@@varunaeeriyaulla Oh man you know what i mean
Thats because Tim checks out men when they have their back facing towrds him.
No larger model yet haha
This new design its aswsome and now I really want one!! The only thing is, the iMac Pro speakers literally gave me chills due to their volume and bass drop coming from a _computer._ It was _incredible._ I might have to get one of those too lol!
The “useless” eject key is a very commonly used key if you shortcut to turn off your Mac; Cmd + Opt + Alt + Eject = shutdown computer. I use it all the time. Hope that they have considered this….
wait why does the title say iMac Pro when that iMac in the video isn't space gray. I thought the iMac Pros only come in space gray..
Not really a fair comparison as the 24" iMac replaces the 21.5" iMac.
The upcoming iMac Pro will be replacing the 27" iMac Pro.
I'd love to see actual software (videos, photos, compiling code) then these tests.
Still, great job :)
I wonder if the touch id magic keyboard works on the ipad and the m1 macs
The Eject key isn’t totally useless. In the before WFH time I’d use Control-Shift-Media Eject as the quick way to put the display to sleep.
Mines was delivered yesterday...still haven’t unboxed yet!
iMac Pro definitely has the best speakers
So this is the new Apple commercial? Pretty smart of them.
The old 27 iMac design was a beautiful silhouette.
Found power cable difficult…. Kids… kids…. 😂
Macbook Air M1 vs Imac 24’ M1🙏
It is adapted to the “work at home” situation, with the magnetic connection, longer cable, lighter weight, Ethernet in the brick and better looking back. It’s very easy to put it on the diner table.
The only thing missing is a built in battery.
Why built in battery? iMac isn’t meant to be portable and yes stable on a desk, if you want portable devices you have iPads and MacBooks.
Volume is a factor of physical dimension & power so it's bound to lack in volume there's no physical way around it.
I like my 2020 iMac 5k i9 intel 3.6
10 cores 128 GB
Running pro audio studio so my Apollo interface is my sound card
And my speakers are Genelec monitors
OK all imac 27" owners are here just to be sure if their mac still better and don't feel bad about their acquisition, so they watch and say mmm I'm still good yeah!
buuut what about all of us with even older macs, I have a 2016 macbook pro and I need a new camputer so, this is the question I think a lot of people is making them selfs, Do I get the iMac new 24" M1, the intel 27" or should I wait? I'm a RUclipsr and I edit my own videos so my 2016 it's been "good" for my 4k edits but some times with longer videos and if I add too many cameras to de the videos it starts struggling, I need a new computer...
Here would be my choice of colors.
1 Green.
2 Blue.
3 Purple.
4 Orange.
5 Yellow.
6 Pink.
7 Silver.
You got new song for the speaker test Max Tech! Good 👍!
Song name actually
I mean for most daily task the new M1 Imac is amazing for the price
If you factor in the 4.5K display and quality peripherals, it’s a great deal!
@@MaxTechOfficial Yeah! I didn't really expect the M1 Imac to beat a dedicated Gpu but it isn't terrible performance for web browsing. Probably last 5 to 6 years
How are they able to transmit the fingerprint data to the iMac so quickly? That’s so cool
I've been running the M1 systems for a bit now (Macbook Air, Imac, Mac Mini). I think you guys overstate their performance.
The bit about the power cables was like a comedy sketch
@@andreas.r.hoffmann just checked. No bro, it’s not there. Just the mouse and keyboard.
@@akshay7035 you have to buy it, it gives you the option for it, that’s why he is saying.
@@kawhizer3317 yes.
@@akshay7035 the $129 upgrade option to add the trackpad to the mouse/keyboard pair is a good deal! The discontinued Space Gray trackpad retails for $149
Trackpad all the way. I actually use the wireless mouse with AA battery so that I can always use it. It’s baffling that I have to write such a sentence.
those bezel will be very distracting when working
I can't wait to see this comparison between the coming M1 iMac pro of this year and the version tested on this video
After viewing this video, I feel happy to own my high spec 2020 imac 27. But I’m going to buy a M1 iPad Pro 12.9, haha
Why NO ONE is testing external ssd speed?????
I ended up taking advantage of Apple’s extra trade-in credit event happening right now and got myself the high-end version yellow 24” iMac with 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD. Basically it’s the exact specifications of my current MacBook Pro 13” but I really wanted a desktop since I have an iPad Pro 2018 as my portable device and I needed a bigger screen. The extra trade-in credit made it worth it, just sucks it won’t ship until July.
Love my 24" right now! The web browsing and homework on it is fantastic
They should’ve added an apple symbol to chin that comes on once u power on the computer
They should've just had a corresponding chrome colored logo
Imagine turning it on at 3AM and the logo flashbangs you:D
Come on, the 21.5” didn’t suck, I still have a 2009 running strong right next to my 27” I9
Thanks for the Apple promotional video!
Every reviewer: OMG it’s so lightweight!
Me: who the hell cares?
Yep, I find this more of an issue than a feature. My 27” is light enough to be carried between rooms if necessary anyway
Just Love your comparisons!! Have to save time somehow to watch these
Could you please make a video of connecting two external monitors with this iMac 24 inch? That is my dream setup but I'm not sure if using a dock would affect the performance. Please make it as soon as possible.
Your channel just has too many ads placed too close together.
I think it’s because Max is poor and pathetic
You showed your serial numbers on both Macs...what are your thoughts on that? Why do you think that is safe from internet scammers? Thanks
This is the reason why I also bought MacBook pro 16 before the m1 came out because of bootcamp
Reviewer can’t you see the old design is very iconic. Super nice.
Dont break it then... problem solved
@@77dris Wow very insightful. I never would’ve thought of that! Very original.
