Nope. You're not the only one. I started in computers back in school in 1979. I was in school at one of only about a handful of schools across the nation, that were handpicked by the Dept. of Education to participate in an experimental class called, computer programming.The school system wasn't even sure at that time if such coursework was even going to be popular, or not. Hah.....and look at where we are today. The C920's clarity is much better than the replacement Brio. Mics: Have you thought about using an InvisiLav so that you can do away with the big bulky microphone in the screen shot?

Amazingly helpful. I laughed out loud watching you set up the green screen. That said, I appreciate the effort because that is REAL WORLD! Most of us do not have large recording studios and are trying to make magic happen in home offices (or basements). It was good to see the how you made it work in a small space. Thank you!

Why would anyone give a thumbs down. Good stuff I'm nally getting organized to open my new channel and your vids have really helped me to understand the web presentation side of things. I would also like to add Steve is for your viewers to check out Sony Vegas free version it's incredibly intuitive for this type of work and easy for begginers I use premier and Vegas pro which are more advanced but can be learned quickish. The only thing I need is a screen recording set up and maybe something like eligato for live streaming when I reach that point

We do screencasting (mostly for creating Web tutorials for clients) and I've been quite satisfied with a screen cast and video switching program called 'OBS Studio'. It's surprisingly robust, platform friendly (win, Mac, Linux) and its 100 free and open source. Lots of videos on RUclips about it and we'll worth a try!! Shoutout to being proudly #canadian!

I just purchased a spring loaded Green Screen for my videos and I have to say, that spring is very strong, although I did wrestle with trying to fold it back into the bag, but after a few attempts I was successful. I had an Comodore "AMiGA 500" and aaaall the rememberings ... but the Job you do for others ..TV-Show where you explain this and that ... this is great Job and its like the first people who come in an area and check up the whooole country ...but in your case without killing the native ! Steve, I took your screencasting course a few years ago and since then have been making tutorials for my students. I futzed around with lighting and green screens until I found a solution. I replaced the C920 Logitech with my DSLR and bought a larger green screen as well as more lights. I realized that I needed more distance from the screen to the lights so moved everything around. I think I have a better product now. Have you considered giving feedback and advice to content creators? I'd pay!
Ian McNaughton did similar on the BBC around 1983 when the BBC and Acorn computers had a joint venture to produce the BBC Micro computer for a BBC computer education project for schools at the time. They showed the screen as it happens as well. Also the Open University had been broadcasting tutorial programs including computing courses late at night on BBC2 since the 1970's. But be fair you were probably the only one in the nineties until recently.
No, you have definitely outlasted them. BBC gave up in the mid eighties and the OU moved to the internet in the late nineties. To be fair your delivery is much clearer and informative. Although I'm puzzled about the castle you keep going on about, didn't think Canada had any. Always look forward to your videos and the great informative content, keep it up.

Perhaps you can provide a tutorial on how to one should go about making content, I have seen some creators state they freestyle and others script their content I feel both bring value to their style. I have a daughter that wants to start making videos to, and would love to do a collabo but would like to conceal her face as she is minor but I think her ideas can be huge and would allow us to spend more time doing something we both enjoy. I have seen some creators use avatars instead of their own face (Mainly in gaming community) when they green screen, any idea how they are doing this? Once I have saved my pennies I will definatly check out the hardware you receommend as of right now I have an IPhone and would use that mainly for capturing my footage with a mic that is strong but not as big as rhode mic's. A recommendation for the software portion of this series: Split it into two main sections, one where you talk about how the software interacts with your non-computer hardware (e.g. getting the green screen functioning), and another that focuses on a more general video editing portion. It would be disappointing if you made a video production video only for most of it to be inapplicable to people whose content is mostly stuff like animations or clips from videogames or movies.

I have been watching you for many months and following your tips for my technical videos. I use Camtasia 9 and Audacity for my Software tutorial podcasts (I train people on Python software) which involves screen recording and annotations. Since I live in an area which is surrounded by traffic, churches, mosques, schools, factories; my videos have been spoiled many times as I am about to finish them there is some kind of noise from the above said sources. It is taking many takes to finish video and in the due course lot of frustration. I tried going to a remote hill side to record a podcast but wind is my enemy as it is directly blowing into my Yeti Blue mike; lack of internet, power source etc problems also do their best in failing me. It started as a hiccup and in no time it became my nightmare. I have ugly backgrounds at my home. I can't afford building a soundproof booth or hiring a studio room right now. I've been thinking on this for days and months on how to overcome this as recording a video with all the background noises will not sound professional. If it is just a bird chirping kind of a sound, thats fine..but it is street hawker shouts, vehicle horn sounds, regular prayer sounds from churches& mosques, near by residents' talk, baby crying what not. I tried many things known to me, but nothing worked out. I am stalled without recording a single podcast for months crying myself. Do you have any idea to better my situation and sound professional. Few inputs on what I am using for my podcasts.. 1. Blue Yeti Mike for voice 2. Camtasia 9 for screen recording 3. Audacity for audio 4. Lenovo E470 Thinkpad windows-7 64bit Please help me.

I am so frustrated. Spent too much time wasting energy trying to locate controls or a way to hit recored or snap an image sitting in front of this Logitech 930e. It's quite discouraging to go through so much to use a camera. I'm on a macbook pro 10.13.6 High Sierra. Is it possible to use this camera or not? Too aggressive collecting email addresses, you should give other options for sharing information that does not involve forcing someone to give their email address. I understand the importance of collecting emails for lists, but give other options for people who are very selective who gets their email. I have an email set up just for such circumstances that I do not use for anything else.

Very impressive and simple at that! I will require my graduate students to create a podcast of their oral reports if they cannot make it "live" in the classroom.
Love the content, but you are killing yourself with the greenscreen. Find a good print company that sells retractable banners, get a solid print of chroma key green (PMS#354C). It's all self contained, stays smooth and when its retracted, just lean it up against your wall next to your mixer. The pop out that you are using averages $40 to $60 USD, you can get a printed retractable about the same price with way less hassle.

Hi Steve, I started my Screencasting videos after watching your tutorial. I am now using a C920 which is the same model as you used to use. However, i dont get the crisp and sharp image that you get. Is there anything else that you did to your video?

I am so frustrated. Spent too much time wasting energy trying to locate controls or a way to hit recored or snap an image sitting in front of this Logitech 930e. It's quite discouraging to go through so much to use a camera. I'm on a macbook pro 10.13.6 High Sierra. Is it possible to use this camera or not? I just received it yesterday but I'll send it back asap if there is no fix. Appreciate your help, thanks.

Too aggressive collecting email addresses, you should give other options for sharing information that does not involve forcing someone to give their email address. I understand the importance of collecting emails for lists, but give other options for people who are very selective who gets their email. I have an email set up just for such circumstances that I do not use for anything else.
Not at all too aggressive, he's giving you the option. If you don't want the toolkit, don't put in your email.

@John - Just wanted to add something else that I didn't see in Steve's video. It's a magnetic background holder for those pop-up screens. You can also find it on Amazon, but here's the link from the manufacturer page:

Love the content, but you are killing yourself with the greenscreen. Find a good print company that sells retractable banners, get a solid print of chroma key green (PMS#354C). It's all self contained, stays smooth and when its retracted, just lean it up against your wall next to your mixer. The pop out that you are using averages $40 to $60 USD, you can get a printed retractable about the same price with way less hassle.
