UPDATE! We just released a video covering all of the gear and accessories that we consider ESSENTIAL to having a successful RV trip. We talk about a few of those items in this video, but there's a lot more on our list! Check it out here: ruclips.net/video/f0MWmVdPfvo/видео.html
You are fortunate to have 2 people working on this. My wife is disabled, so I'm a one man show. Having done it many times, my goal is a 15 minute set-up. You memorize the routine, and it isn't hard. Nice video, enjoyed it very much.
How does your wife make out camping being disabled as I recently had a stroke and therefore I'm now disabled and want to start camping again and when we used to camp I probably did 80% of the setups and rear down I m really looking forward to being on the road again
Before you even back your rig into the site, it's good practice to plug your surge protector into power first. That way if there's a problem you can easily change sites if possible.
These folks are so friendly and not preachy - just showing what works from them. I could sit down with a cup of coffee and just enjoy learning from them. So this RUclips is sort of like that. Thanks!
I've setup camp with my 5th wheel tons of times and still click on every 'setup' tutorial video just to see other people's way of operations. Great video.
Thinking of buying a trailer...going to Airstream in a few minutes...and have found your videos to be helpful. The little tips are great, and you’re honest about how things are. It’s not all rainbows and sunshine with everything, you talk about what is not good about things.
We are newbies who are awaiting the arrival of our rig, Lord willing, next month. I love your videos which are so informative for those of us who have never had a rig of our own before. We will be camping close to home in PA to get "the hang of things" before heading to FL for the winter. Your Wintering in FL video was awesome too. There are things that you don't think about that you talk mention and explain. It's just awesome. Thank you so much! Stay safe and continue to send us information to help us "down the road" Blessings to you and your family!
Congrats on getting your new rig soon! It seems like there's a ton to know and do, but once you've done everything once or twice you'll see how easy it really is. Just take your time and don't be afraid to ask for help online or in campgrounds. 👍👍
I came across your video my accident and have to say I really enjoy the great tips of your set up procedure. I plan on getting an RVl and your video truly helped a rookie like me. Great Info, Great Video!
ALWAYS ALWAYS CHOCK BEFORE TOUCHING YOUR HITCH ! I say this from experience. I got complacent and detached my hitch when the trailer was on a slight downhill. It resulted in the trailer moving forward and thankfully the tongue came to rest on the side of the weight distribution hitch and stopped without causing any damage or injuries. The first thing I do is install my x-chocks and rubber chocks even on level ground before I begin to unhitch. Lesson learned.
What a life saver! We are going to get our camper tomorrow but I was so scared about messing something up! Saved this video to watch on our first few trips!
Hey! Great video! Just a quick tip, I always set my parking brake, especially when towing the rv because eventually it will eat up your gears. All the weight is sitting on the gears when the truck rocks into place. So if you set your parking brake while in drive and foot on the brake and then shift into park, the weight of the truck/trailer will be on the parking brake and not your gears! Happy camping!
That's interesting, I had never heard of that. I always use the parking brake when hooked up and stopped, but I've never engaged it while in drive. I normally put it in park and then stomp the parking brake down with my left foot before coming off the brake pedal. It may do the same thing?
Yup! Same thing as long as the parking brake is engaged before taking foot off of the brake. I was just commenting because you mentioned that you kept trying to get the trailer in place and it was rocking after in park. Always a good idea to put the weight on the parking brake and in turn the truck will hold its place while unhooking. Happy Camping! @@Five2Go
Thank you for your demonstration. We are A-Liner owners and, for the most part, simply weekend campers. I find it a bit overwhelming to have all the prep and set-up that is required with a big rig. I can't really see that for us but appreciated watching. You are a great couple and beautiful family. Stay safe out there!
Thank you so much! There are definitely some huge differences when setting up towables vs drivables. I'm kind of jealous of the "hit a button and you're level" thing! 🤣
I’ll echo the great informative content especially for newbie RVers! Never thought to prime the water hose! Great tip! My wife has a checklist for everything just so we don’t forget anything. About wheel chocks, I learned the importance last summer. I backed up our GD Imagine TT into our seasonal spot alongside our 10’ x 30’ wooden deck. I had a heck of a time getting it close to the deck but did finally after a couple of hours! When I went to put down our manual stabilizing jacks between the the deck & the trailer, I had to go under the trailer. My nephew turned the wrench from 6 o’clock to noon & I turned from noon to 6 o’clock. And yes I forgot the chocks! After a couple of turns, the trailer rolled backwards. Pinning me under the hitch I beam. Resting on my right arm across my chest. I thought I was going to be crushed! Luckily there was a lot of campers around who came to my rescue. The longest 2 minutes of my life! I ended up with 5 stitches on my wrist where the I beam pressed my metal watch into my wrist. I went to the hospital as a trauma alert & walked out 5 hours later after all the testing to make sure my heart & internal organs were ok. And a big lecture from the ER doctor, Lol I’ve learned my lesson for sure & realized how very lucky I was! Thanks again for all you do making your videos and look forward to seeing more of your videos!
Oh no! That sounds awful! With as heavy as these things are, safety is key. The last thing anyone needs is one of these rolling around without permission!
I just watched your video for the first time, since the video was posted so long ago you probably won’t see this comment. I am a commercial/ industrial electrican! We call the type of cord that supplies power to your rig a “twist lock”!
Thanks for making this video. I am in the process of getting our first couples RV this coming weekend. Super excited and feeling more comfortable after watching this.
Lurching while parking is resolved by placing the truck in neutral, then engage the parking brake. Then shift into park. This takes the stress off the parking lever inside the transmission.
Cool hose priming tip! We just went from a Travel Trailer to a 5th wheel but still got a good tip from your setup. Can I suggest placing your wood blocks long ways front to back at the tongue jack. This will provide better stabilization. In the event your trailer had any front to back motion the blocks could easily tip forward or back and the jack would land on the ground when you have the blocks side to side like in the video. Enjoy your time on the road with your family!
We actually picked up some larger square blocks recently and have been using those. I've thought about those other blocks going front to back too, but with the chunky rubber blocks and the x-chocks, there's zero chance of this thing moving forward. Great tip though, thank you!
Suggest you wash the water connection with 20-1 Clorox to clean the connection before hooking up the water. I watched someone wash their sewer hose on a water tap a few sites from where you are parked. Even though there is no sewer there, they dumped their gray water in the trees. The first time I camped there was in the A section the week after the campground was opened as Thousand Trails. It was a vision then and all mud!. Been back hundreds of times.
we are heading for our first ever RV trip and this was greatly needed! Well done, simple, detailed. Thank you. My first day will be better because of this video.
You're welcome! We're glad we could help. Make sure to check out some of our more recent videos, we've done several more about campsite setup and moving days. 👍👍
I loved this video so much that I immediately looked through all of your videos to see if you had a video showing how you actually hook the rig to the truck. You had so many good tips and tricks that my husband and I are definitely going to use from now on, thanks for sharing. But I'm hoping you will have a video to show us how you hookup when leaving a destination.
Stumbled on to your channel and I’m glad I did. I learn some more things about setting up watching y’all do it. Thank you. I’m doing much research into rv life, I plan to get my rig within the next 2 years so I watch different nomad RUclips channels to compare. You are very easy to watch and your children are beautiful. Your puppy is so adorable and you are a very nice couple. Thank you again, safe travels and God bless you.
I mentioned earlier that I bought the Andersen levelers and liked them, but I ended up returning them cause they were slicker than owl-sh** on concrete and asphalt and would slide out from under the tire as you tried to get up on them. So I will use 1-1/2”, 1”, 3/4”, and 1/2” boards long enough to fit under both wheels, with enough capacity (lift) to use under one wheel to raise the other wheel enough to change a flat. But the LevelMatePRO is a keeper since it tells you exactly how much you need under a side for it to be level, and makes it super easy to level front-to-rear and remembers your hitch height when you are ready to leave.
I purchased anderson "the jack block" for my camper...I love them...they stack together and are super sturdy...now I just use my linx bag for leveling side to side!
I prime the water by leaving the low point drains open. Then, go inside to open sinks, shower, toilet. Then, close the low point valves. You probably can't do this with caps, but you could install valves. Leaves the water "mess" under the camper instead of at the hookups. Open the hot water heater pressure valve to make sure the tank has water before turning on the electric heater. I also use those X chocks before unhooking, since those plastic ones do nothing. I should get hose rubber ones you guys have. Harbor Freight? E brake is your friend. It helps when hooking back up too and you don't play that game of guessing how far it'll rock back.
When attempting to remove stubborn weight distribution hitch bars, it helps to elevate the tongue jack. This takes makes it way easier to pull the stubborn bar out. No real need for the hook lever. Also, storing the weight distribution bars in the compartments instead of under the rig, helps prevent formation of rust on the bars. Keep up the good work!
A very nice and informative video I enjoyed watching it... one thing I would like to clarify is a weight distribution hitch does not transfer the weight to the back of your trailer, that's actually a bad thing, a weight distribution actually applies Leverage to push more of the weight of the trailer onto the front wheels of your truck to distribute the weight more evenly across both axles of your truck.
Hi Brian and Erin! I just happened to find this video. It’s great tips too in how to do your hook ups. It’s a kit if work and it takes a little bit of time. But it’s fun to do. Especially when you need to do it. Thank you so much for doing this video. See you on down the road and see you soon! Stay safe.
Thank you so much! You'll be very happy with any of the Grand Design models, they're built super well and have great floor plans. Do you have one in mind already?
We are actually camped near you at the moment. We saw your channel name on your RV. We are ft with our 5 youngest children. Looking forward to seeing more of your channel!
Thank you for remembering the wheel chocks! We only use the X chocks. We also have the same husky hitch. Thank you for showing me some points to notice to removing the sway bars. Love your pup! Our Rottweiler is city-fied too. Enjoyed the video!
Just found this video.. good job, but I was scanning the comments to see if anyone else caught this. I have had a trailer roll on my even with chocks on certain grounds. Its a great idea to NOT unhook the chains until everything is stable. Also, stand clear. The chains will catch and keep the camper from rolling too far on you. Just a good safety idea and something I always follow. One other little thing.. run your water before connecting your hose just to flush out the line.. your filter will do the job, buy why add in extra junk and maybe even a wasp... Nice job and enjoy the camping!! We have been glamping over 4 years and 2 trailers... love it! enjoy!
I noticed your Inspection sticker is from VA..I am from Goodview, VA. in Bedford County on Smith Mountain Lake. Nice videos yall make..Learning a lot..Thanks
That's a great idea for a video, go for it! I've thought about making a full how-to for ours but I don't ever run into other people with the same one. If I have a ProPride or Hensley I think it would generate a lot more interest though...
@@Five2Go yeah those "fancy" hitches. I'd like to think we're ahead of the curve. Lol. I've seen a couple other rv RUclips channels that use ourc same hitch. We paid $600 for ours, that's expensive enough lol
And the husky pulls just as well as anything else I imagine. I've only felt the stiffest cross wind, and that's about all. I don't believe in paying more for the same result 😁
Two observations, I reverse the order of some of the things I do. The first things I do is check to see if there is eater and electric before I start leveling. Been caught all nice and level only to discover the electricity is bad and needing to move. Second, I recommend you look at the instructions of your electric tester, mine recommends you make sure the power is off, connect it, turn on the power, see the text results and only when you get a positive result do you turn off the power and plug in your rig. Then turn it on. But a good video, especially like the prime the water hose suggestion. Thanks.
There are two reasons we do level before checking electric really. First, only one campground in the last hundred has had an electrical issue. Second, we actually do the leveling before I even get out of the truck. We did a lot of talking about the process in this video so I was out there filming with Erin, but in reality she hops out and gets the levelers out of the basement while I fire up the app on my phone and yell out the window which side needs to go up 😋 That being said, we've encountered more sites with water issues than electrical for some reason... Your process for checking electric is what I show around the 6:30 mark. Hook up the surge protector, turn on the breaker, check lights, turn off the breaker, hook up the rig, turn on the breaker 👍 Thanks for the comments!
Nice video.on your hitch you might want to put some grease on your ball an sway bars.it will make it easier to backup.an truning.the app is cool.for a quick way to check your trailer is to put Level on the front an side.on driver side. For your water hose get an extension cord. Most of them are orange.the way I did it I left. Enough hose out to hook up the faucet.then just roll the hose up on the extension cord spool.
That hookup was fine actually - the little LEDs are weird about showing up on camera depending on the lighting and angle that the lens is viewing it from.
I also have the level mate pro makes it easier to level if your setting up by yourself while the wife is with the kids and I believe everyone at least once forgets the chock the wheels while setting up at least once
Tip for you, You may have another video about this in your setup but it wasn't in this one. I bought some of the smaller foam pool floaties and slice them lengthwise. You then put them on the edges of your slide outs so if somebody runs into them they don't hit that hard sharp corner.
I love you guys, seems as though you're really enjoying life, by the way your video on Matt really put it all in perspective we're looking around for an RV now the market is really crazy now people are rethinking the way they vacation.
Great video guys!! I noticed you mention about the surge guard having red lights. In particular about the code being red green green on both L1 & neutral reversed and L2 & neutral reversed. We have just recently purchased the exact same surge protector for our travel trailer and were getting the same codes. I seem to think it might be because the power supply is not grounded. I have an old garage I plug into where nearly every outlet doesn’t have ground. I finally realized that was the issue because would get the same codes while plugged into our brand new Preditor generator inverter that I didn’t read the instructions on how to properly ground it. Not sure if that helps at all, but I did enjoy your video, especially the leveling app!!
Thank you! I learned three tips. I was wondering why my hitch didn’t come off as “clean” during one instance. And watching for the gap in the receiver is something that I will add to my checklist. Finally, I will remember the 90 angle on the scissor jack.
We love watching other people set up in campgrounds! 😋 Every once in a while you'll catch something dangerous, or something gross like someone doing sewer hose stuff without gloves, but we also see some good ideas every once in a while. We're always learning!
Five2Go I don’t have a camper (yet ?). Just wondering why does the black water drain need that flexible stand lifting it off the ground 6” or so vs. just laying on the ground?
If you keep your foot on the brake, put transmission in neutral, apply parking brake then let the weight of the truck be taken up by the parking brake, then put the transmission in park. The truck will not move. The same technique works parking on a hill/slope.
Great video. Always fun to see the different ways people do things. I have my outdoor temp sensor velcroed inside the propane cover. Seems to read pretty good from in there and I don't have to remember to set it up.

Parking brake is the way to go. Note- it's not "sitting on the gears" on an automatic. Its resting on a pin in the transmission.

Damn after watching this video I’m so glad I have a motor home with levering jacks, park push a button level hit slides and done.
Our new rig is a Class A - the single button to level is definitely amazing 🤣🤣🤣
We are actually camped near you at the moment. We saw your channel name on your RV. We are ft with our 5 youngest children. Looking forward to seeing more of your channel!
Send us a message on Facebook or Instagram - we're here for two more nights and would love to meet up!
Thank you guys so much! This video literally sealed the deal for me. We are a family of 6 and will begin shopping for s RV! You guys are awesome!
Right on! If you're in/near CO, our RV is actually for sale right now: www.five2go.com/forsale
Hello from Brighton, CO
I typically leave one of the safety chains hooked up until after I have the ball disconnected juuusssst in case I forget to chock something... ;-)
Excellent, VIDEO.
Thanks for post.Special thanks for taking time away from your vacation to educate us newbies.
Thanks Dean! This isn't a vacation though - we live in our RV full time 👍😁👍
Getting ready to purchase my first travel trailer. Thank you for all the valuable information!
Make sure to watch this one too! ruclips.net/video/88xXD-81Kkc/видео.html
Great video guys even though it is couple years old. You should get a quick brass disconnect it is worth it weight and gold.
Thank you for remembering the wheel chocks! We only use the X chocks. We also have the same husky hitch. Thank you for showing me some points to notice to removing the sway bars. Love your pup! Our Rottweiler is city-fied too. Enjoyed the video!
Thanks Angela!
thanks for the tips. going to try our new (to us) camper tomorrow! look for the mushroom cloud.
I take my chains off only after chocks are set and my hitch is off the ball. it is a safety chain. Like your videos.
Thanks!
We have the same hitch. Love it. Much better than the chain type on our old rig. Happy RVing guys!
Yes! The husky is a great system, we've really enjoyed it! Thank you for watching 👍😁👍
@@Five2Go just subscribed. We've been thinking about making a video on our hitch vs our old hitch.
Thanks.
Make that check the water and electric...
Hook up the surge protector, turn on the breaker, check lights, turn off the breaker, hook up the rig, turn on the breaker 👍
Thanks for the comments!
First thing I bought was Level Pro+. Second was Anderson levelers - much, much easier.
A great campground for blackberries and huckleberries at the end of summer
That's awesome! It seemed like a really nice campground but we were only there for one night so we didn't have much time to explore.
Totally watch if you have never have set up you guys! Great tutorial
Awesome video. Thank you for all the help.
Great video....best setup video I have seen! You guys did a fantastic job, engaging, entertaining, and extremely informative!
❤
Nice video.on your hitch you might want to put some grease on your ball an sway bars.it will make it easier to backup.an truning.the app is cool.for a quick way to check your trailer is to put
Level on the front an side.on driver side. For your water hose get an extension cord. Most of them are orange.the way I did it I left. Enough hose out to hook up the faucet.then just roll the hose up on the extension cord spool.
Thanks for the tips!
Love your instructional videos. So clear & thorough. Thanks 😊
Hey guys! I have dreams to one day have this lifestyle with my daughter. Love watching you guys!
It is so fun and rewarding, especially for the kiddos! Thanks for watching 👍😍👍
First time RV Camper Really Enjoyed all the Great Info Well Done Video Thanks!
Thanks for the great videos. You have no idea how helpful they are.
Not sure if this was discussed in other comments. At 6:36 it clearly shows that you have an open ground on your power pole (no light, green, green).
The LevelMatePRO is such a time saver - it's easily the best accessory we've bought for the RV. 👍👍
Excellent videos guys!! It could not have been better
Very informative. Reduces the learning curve by far. Thank you for sharing.
Our pleasure - we're happy to help! 👍😁👍
Tip for you, You may have another video about this in your setup but it wasn't in this one. I bought some of the smaller foam pool floaties and slice them lengthwise. You then put them on the edges of your slide outs so if somebody runs into them they don't hit that hard sharp corner.
I love you guys, seems as though you're really enjoying life, by the way your video on Matt really put it all in perspective
we're looking around for an RV now the market is really crazy now people are rethinking the way they vacation.
Thanks Rob! There definitely appear to be more people getting interested in RVs lately, that's for sure!
Social distancing lol.
I realize that’s a campground issue and could still could be reversed but I guess I was just happy my rig wasn’t wired incorrectly
Thanks for the tip about priming the hose. Never thought of that.
It helps a ton with the sputtering and knocking when you first start running the water!
Thank you! I learned three tips. I was wondering why my hitch didn’t come off as “clean” during one instance. And watching for the gap in the receiver is something that I will add to my checklist. Finally, I will remember the 90 angle on the scissor jack.
So glad we could help! 👍😁👍
Like the surge guard very good idea
That was great. We are picking up our first RV on Friday. Thanks for making this video 🙂
Nice place for RV. Love the forest
I love to see how everyone sets up just a little different
We love watching other people set up in campgrounds! 😋 Every once in a while you'll catch something dangerous, or something gross like someone doing sewer hose stuff without gloves, but we also see some good ideas every once in a while. We're always learning!
Five2Go I don’t have a camper (yet ?). Just wondering why does the black water drain need that flexible stand lifting it off the ground 6” or so vs. just laying on the ground?
This is a very nicely put together video and very informative. Thank you!!!
Thanks!
Great tutorial for new and seasoned RV owners
Thank you - we're happy to help!
If you keep your foot on the brake, put transmission in neutral, apply parking brake then let the weight of the truck be taken up by the parking brake, then put the transmission in park. The truck will not move. The same technique works parking on a hill/slope.
Great video! Wonderful job explaining everything! Thank you very much for all of the tips you shared!
Thank you so much Mindy!
Great video. Always fun to see the different ways people do things. I have my outdoor temp sensor velcroed inside the propane cover. Seems to read pretty good from in there and I don't have to remember to set it up.
Thankyou very much for your time and very informative video. I learned alot. Cant wait for our Grand design trailer.
I soooo appreciate your video!! Thanks for the introduction!
That wasn’t that bad but damn, there’s a lot to remember!
Thank you guys for the helpful information on RV set-up! We are looking at purchasing our first RV and this video was extremely helpful!
Great video and a must see for those RVing for the first time. Thanks!
Thanks Rob!
Very nice video. I've never set up my TT, and this helped a bunch. Thank you!
You're welcome! We're glad we can help! 👍👍
These are very helpful tips for the new RV'er, great video 😀
Glad it was helpful!
