The more time you put in to the polishing the better it will look, a word of warning though it won't retain that polished look for long unless you clear coat it. Great job though, keep up the good work.👍
That is exactly my thoughts. I had an old Suzuki GS that I polished the cases and fork bottoms, with no clear coat or whatever? the constant oxidizing was a nightmare of repolishing on a regular basis!
I was taught a trick yers ago by a guy whose job it was to polish the leading edges of an aircraft wing. He found that a fabric floor tile cut into a disc and glued to a pad on a polishing machine with some compound on it used to bring up the aluminium to a mirror finish. So I tried it and lo and behold it worked wonders!
Interesting, does make sense as the harder compound pad worked much better than the soft one. Just have to find some old floor carpet tiles 😅
Great job, I appreciated seeing all the effort, it's worth it!
Thanks, Always good to hear the feedback 😎👍
I ended up just purchasing my first rs125 after seeing your past videos 👍🏼 i needed to have one, fun little bikes
I can’t be held responsible for the hours of your life you will loose on projects like this 😅
Good luck and enjoy though 😎👍
@@stoneautomotive already hit the track on it once already, very fun! Now for all the changes 👍🏼
Reversible frame stand 👏🏻, surface finish is a peach welldone pal 👍🏻🇮🇪
Cheers mate 😎👍
Great video
Nice to see a bit of elbow grease working its magic
Thanks mate 👌😎
AutoSol! Brings back memories! Once I worked at a museum ofArms&Armour. We even sold it in the gift shop!
Really impressed with it for an over the counter product so can see why it’s so popular 😎
Very detailed, the bike will come out amazing!
Thanks and glad you enjoyed the video 😎👍
Looking forward to getting the body work on next 👍
Lovely job - really enjoyed watching this.
Thanks & glad to hear 😎👍
Great progress, a peach of a bike. 👍
Thank you 😎👍
It is a good idea to stroke every grit in 90degree different angle. 800 horizontal, 1200 vertical etc. To see if you still have any of the previous grit’s scratchmarks.
That’s a really good tip 👍 needed this input about 2 weeks ago though 😂
Great video mate, keep up the great content.
Thanks mate 😎👍
Still plenty more to come 😬
I've always found Brasso really good for polishing aluminium and the wadding version can be useful for getting into tight corners.
Nice to see it come back - I had a 95 RS EXTREMA and have a 916 now, i see in your garage.
Hopefully will look great when it’s done 😬
Sounds we both have good taste for the bikes 😎
possibly not practical , for cost and time , but given the level of effort and detail , its a shame you couldnt of had the inside of the frame and the none polished surfaces vapor blasted first .. really does make a difference - great work tho buddy .
The build has never been planned as a full restoration show and shine, it’s more about showing what can be done at home (but agree vapour blasting is lovely)
Thanks 😎👍
When you rebuild your swing arm, please look into the bearings,
There is 2 places, on on the swing arm and the other ones on the linkage to it and you can buy the same bearings twice and put them in the same place as the other ones and then you will feel there’s a difference in the handling, a little bit more solid, and then the YSS shocks are great, setting it up to be hard when you’re fully geared up, I’ve set mine up for a 1.2lb’s more than myself and I have the shocks are a mix of 10 and 15 weight oils +10%
And back in 2018 I put on a hydraulic clutch pump and got matching clutch and brake master cylinders and green red and white hoses and have been riding with a hydraulic clutch ever since I’ve got the bike stripped at the moment as I’m polishing the frame and getting a whole new injection fairing from china and wiring in some 7-8 k lights and mk3 of the hydraulic clutch pump, as I have a better one that looks a lot more expensive and has a good quality finish so it’s getting the good treatment 😋🙂↕️😎🤣
Yep all been replaced in the next episode (just trying to edit it all to hopefully go live Sunday 😬) the play in the old bearings were shocking!
Should hopefully be a right blast to ride when it’s finished 👌
Great video yet again james ive been using that auto sol since i was a kid my grandad had always used it ive not found anything better than that upto yet but im trying to get used to this new music you got going ive been so used to the other 😃 i bet you was ready for a few coronas after polishing all that 🤣
Cheers mate, just want to get it on the road now 😬
Still finding my way with RUclips licence free music 😅
Always loaded with Coronas haha
Great progress. Well worth the many hours of work.
Thanks Paul 😎👍
The frame is looking awesome!
Good job!😊
Thank you 😎👍
For the stand, just forward of where you put the threaded bar there is a hole in the frame. Easy enough to put a steel bar through the hole on one side, and out through the one on the other side (I just use a ~24” extension bar). Then just support the ends on axle stands.
I recently bought a tool to squeeze steering head bearings into the frame. Wish I had bought one years ago!
I’ve seen a method using 10mm stud, tow nuts and to square washers that allows you to simply wind them in but to be honest once in the freezer they go in easy enough 👍
@@stoneautomotive I hate doing steering bearings as I seem to never get them right first time. The tool saves me finding a socket as a drift of the right size to knock them in!
Top job👌
Thank you 😎👍
Meguiars all metal polish works wonders on these frames with very little effort. Got mine up to a near mirror finish with just a few passes of wet and dry then hitting it with the polish
Shall look into that, the Autosol took tons of time and I’m sure it won’t last when the bikes in use so the faster the method the better 👍
I personally prefer to pack the bearings with grease in my hand really get it in there
That’s fair enough, with the lower one though you would risk getting grit/ dirt in it when trying to press it in place so for
me I’ve always saved it till the end. That said though this thing is going to be next to no mileage so I’m not overly worried 😅
@@stoneautomotive that’s true there are those fancy bearing grease filler upper thingys but never used 🤣
Try bilt hamber surfex HD degreaser...it's awesome, and it can be diluted to suit too..just a thought.
Love Bilt Hambet snow foam so shall have a look into that 😎
Fantastic work, pretty fiddly, though, but it will be worth it. You I probably could have soda bead blasted it as well, The Aprillia will be mint.
Thank you 😎
As you say I could have had further methods but still pushing to see just how much I can DIY the job with out using outside help.. at least that’s the plan any way 😅
@@stoneautomotive Way to go James, good stuff mate
Use "white diamond" polish, it's much better than autosol
Shall have a look 👍👌
Nice one again. Looking forwards to the completed bike.
A good tip on head bearings, use blue waterproof grease like Yamaha outboard motor stuff. Will last longer 🙂
Will you treat the polished finish? Clear coat?
Thanks and glad you enjoyed 😎👍
Good to know about the Yamaha blue grease, shall have to look into that on the next build 😬
Leaving the frame raw, may end up regretting this haha
@@stoneautomotive Hate to say it but you will regret it i polished mine and left it in the shed for only a month and am now having to do the whole sanding and polish process again, so yours will probably end up fluffing up, sorry to be the bad news bearer best of luck dude
@@2ttez861 😭
@@stoneautomotive I'm sorry 😩
I know a lot of it is an enjoyment factor but you must put a minimum limit on labour charges when you sell it . Great series by the way 👍.
The money side of it is well out of the window in all honestly, the project, filming and editing are a clear loss before we even get onto the time into the bike 😭
I do enjoy it and can only hope the channel grows enough for it to make financial sense one day 👍😅
Glad to hear many are enjoying the series though 😎

Looking good night and day wax on wax off
Are you going to put clear coat on frame before you put back together
To late now.. gonna be regular polishing for me 😅🤦♂️
You really HAVE TO clear coat this. It's not too late yet. Amazing work, but will oxidise extremely fast.
This is what I keep hearing 😅🤦♂️
Think I'd have clear coated that frame with dtm clear.
I’m thinking that may have been a good idea too now 😅
Yipee
Bang them in the freezer has a completely different meaning in the US lol
Your going to have to explain now 😅
