    Finally! Jake in Motion getting to the real meat and potatoes of After Effects.

    HiPass/LowPass : filter out selected frequency band.
    When using the HiPass, High frequencies pass the filter and when using or LoPass, Low frequencies pass the filter.
    DryOut : output of the uneffected (original) audio
    WetOut : output of the effected audio.

    It's nice to have some audio controls for simple stuff right on AE! I just finished a project where the character went underwater and I wanted to modulate the audio accordingly. It was easier to just do it with some passes and filters on AE instead of running Audition just for that!

    "Double tap the L key on that footage so I can see the audio waveform"
    Well here I go having flashbacks to how much time I've wasted manually opening up the waveform.

    Some folks might not be familiar with "dry out" vs. "wet out". Wet, in audio terms, refers to only the affected sound, and Dry refers to the unaffected sound. So playing with that mix is like "composite with original" or adjusting the transparency of the effect (in visual terms). Great tutorial, Jake! P.S. if you have creative cloud, everyone should play around with Audition. There are also a lot of free audio apps with a ton of effects and controls like it!

    Stereo Mixer is helpful for easily fading in/out audio. I know that you can change the decibel levels directly on a layer's Audio properties, but there's no precise 'full volume to no volume' range. I tend to use this effect with the Right Level pickwhipped to the Left Channel, and then keyframe the Left Channel between 100% and 0%.

    A high-pass filter lets high frequencies "pass" while attenuating lower frequencies. You would use this most commonly to filter out some of the super-low frequency hums you sometimes get without affecting the voice frequencies. Very handy. Low-pass filters do the opposite, they let low frequencies through and attenuate high frequencies, like maybe hiss.

    I used to take my audio into FCP for simple two-track editing, but with judicious use of stereo mixer have found that I don’t need to. Also, it is waaay better for fades than keyframing the ‘audio’

    I started out in audio and I would have to agree that audio should be done elsewhere. Perhaps good for some scratch track ideas to hand over or work on elsewhere. The tone one has some possibilities for being a bit generative.. Nice VO voice there too ! Getting your Casey Kasem on there ;-)

      just thinking further on this - AE can create keyframes based on audio, so I wonder if the parametric eq could be used to "tune" the sound to get the desired keyframes? Or does AE just look at the actual sound file ?

    Tell us how you really feel about audio in AE, Jake.

    So I"m guessing this is a dumb question but as someone that has been animating for about a year now and just now getting into adding audio to animations (all of my previous work didn't require audio).... what should I be using to add audio? I've never used programs like Premier or anything like that.

    • @JakeInMotion
      @JakeInMotion  2 года назад +2

      Premiere would be my suggestion since it comes with creative cloud. The issue with audio in AE is that it's not easy to get realtime playback and you have hugely limited control over your audio mixing.

    • @galaga00
      @galaga00 2 года назад

      It also can really depend on your project. With some projects I will have assists in Premiere that have been edited and then I will literally copy the audio from Premiere and paste those tracks into After Effects. The waveforms will get pasted directly into your sequence. So, for example, I was setting up a sequence with various musical cues and sound effects such as thunder and rain. I copy the music and sound effects and paste them in AE. Now I can move stuff around in AE to match that. But if I decide I want to move the thunder in time i just drag that audio layer around in AE. Note: When you paste in AE it automatically adds this really annoying “stereo mixer” effect to your audio clips that lowers the audio greatly and it is super annoying. I always delete those.
      Anyhow…there’s many other ways i’m sure you could go about this stuff but that’s one way I will do it.

      Look up a low pass filter. That may do what you need.

    Sir, i have a problem every time that i use an audio in AE, the sound and speed of the audio slow down and i can only heard very well the audio in the first 5second, after that the sound starts to change, u know what causes the problem? :/

    • @normallife4433
      @normallife4433 2 года назад +2

      That's caused by your computer not being able to output enough video frames to display in realtime, so After Effects slows down the audio to match how fast your computer can output video. You can change this to just mute audio under Preferences > Previews. If you want the audio to keep up, you'll probably need to drop the preview resolution and turn on skip frames in the preview settings panel.
