    A safer way to pull out the switches without breaking them is to unscrew the whole mounting plate and push the plastic stem (bottom part of the switch housing) from beneath the PCB. This takes a little more effort but if you still want your switches in one piece then I suggest you try this method. I've had this keyboard for a week and pulling out the switches with just the switch puller is quite annoying. I figured I'd do this method when I thought of lubing the switches and it saved me a lot of time and sweat trying to pull out the switches from the top.

    This might be the best video of the year. At first anyone who's read the Tecware box knows that swapping only works from Outemu to Outemu-- i found the pins are 1.2mm while gaterons are 1.57. I was going to search vids on filing down the contacts as mentioned by reddit when I came upon this first. U just squeezed them narrower! 11:29 That's brilliant! You got me all excitied with possibilities now, though i still have longevity concerns with this pcb b/c it seems 20% of amazon reviews mention failures within a month to 6 months.

    • @fresharmo
      @fresharmo  3 года назад +4

      I'm glad you found this helpful! As far as longevity is concerned the PCB has been fine for me after using the keyboard for a year. But I've only swapped the switches once so I don't know how long it'll hold up if you're frequently swapping switches.

I got it with the Brown switches (soldered) for only $49 with $5 off coupon. I am using it on my new Mac Mini M1 w/ bluetooth. I don't really game much and just wanted an alternative to the overpriced horrible feeling Apple Magic Keyboard. This keyboard is a dream as well. I really love these brown keys. (I have also used the red keys and like the linear feel.. I imagine your yellows are a dream). Anyways last night, I just bought the same keycap set you bought in this video; thanks for the link! Amazing the quality and aesthetics you can achieve with just $75 :) This RK987 absolutely destroys the Apple Magic Keyboard in quality and aesthetics. This keycap set perfectly matches the silver Mac Mini M1 case with the black apple logo on top of it. Tried replacing the original switches with gaterons, but the gaterons did not sit well although they are working fine. Its like they just got in half way...are you experiencing the same problem ?

    • @fresharmo
      @fresharmo  3 года назад

      It might be due to the led blocking the switch from fitting. This wasn’t a problem for me though and I was able to force them in

      @@fresharmo That's what I thought. I also got mine today and I love it lol. But this guy called 'consumer tech review' at 6.20 in his review showed him putting some box layout switch which I don't think is an otemu as it has a box design. I mean see for yourself because I'm very confused XD

      @James-rc6qq 3 года назад

      @@fresharmo He even said he used gaterons which is what you used. IM SO CONFUSED XD. It could be because his keyboard could be an updated version because I know they did release a slightly new version. The only visual updated change I can see is the new font and the F2 keycap doesn't have the internet explorer logo on it.

    • @fresharmo
      @fresharmo  3 года назад

      Yo congrats I hope u enjoy it! Yea perhaps the updated phantom can fit any switch without mods. If you want I’d say just buy switches you want and if they fit great but if they don’t just clip the extra stems and pinch the pins to get them to fit. It’s a win win
