We’re in Orlando. I pray for those who are near water, as well as everyone in the hurricane’s way! I pray no hurt, harm or danger comes to us, and there’s very little to no damage done in our city. Everyone stay safe! The rain is starting to pick up as of 10:05 pm!
The fact that there are 75 mph wind gusts in Key West, and Ian is like 80 miles away, is freaking scary. Fort Myers and Naples appear to be in the most vulnerable spot. The thought they could have 10 foot storm surges, with relentless rain, is unprecedented. My prayers are with the people on the gulf coast of Florida and I hope they left and are safe.
My uncle decided to stay, he’s near the Tampa area, I’ve heard the storm switched it’s direction a little bit and won’t hit as hard there but I’m still being a worried niece. We told him to call us tomorrow morning when we spoke to him tonight and this is honestly a stressful situation. Prayers to those in Florida and safe travels to those evacuating ❤️
Prayers for all in Florida. Thankfully my family is in the upper keys. I’ve been a very worried Dad since Friday and TD-9 reared his ugly self. Take this seriously please
Those on the coast should have evacuated. Us in the center..... will be okay. Some power outages, unlikely flooding where I am, but certainly something to take seriously.
The shelters take whatever occupancy they are able. If it makes you feel any better the last one to hit Puerto Rico I believe it was Clear Water's shelter took in 100 dogs from the island
Missouri native here....Hurricanes are terrible, but nothing is more frightening than a tornado. Stay safe and take your pets with you if you leave home!
Perhaps you should convince him to leave while he still can. I've a friend in Sarasota. His place is 7 feet above sea level. Very likely it will be flooded, as Ibis wade thru pooled water on the lawn after it rains in normal storms. He cited moving four cats and a dog as a reason to stay. Deciding to leave mid storm...not advisable. Most people who have decided to stay during hurricanes say they would never do that again.
Because whatever he says afterwards while having a dog with him sounds crazy. If you have something to take care of why you go back out to your boat and try to ride out a category 4 hurricane? That’s like asking to die. He needs to go to a shelter with his dog.
Im sorry, this happens every year and this is just a low KEY storm, This is what FLORIDA IS ABOUT! People in Kansas or idaho or Arizona just YAWN. DEAL WITH IT OR MOVE INLAND!
I lived in Sarasota during 2004, which had 4 hurricanes. We boarded up for 2. I no longer live there. The threat of hurricanes taking everything you cannot carry with you is an anxiety one does not want to endure. Without state mosquito control, the place would be uninhabitable. Hence the zero state income tax incentive to move there, and the law which makes it impossible to lose our house in bankruptcy. It's all about perception of risk. "Risk perception is a highly personal process of decision making, based on an individual’s frame of reference developed over a lifetime, among many other factors." What is good for one person, ie the threat of shark attack while SCUBA diving, may not be good for another. Some people are misinformed, or willfully ignorant. Others are well informed of the risks, yet they endeavour to climb Everest anyway. So..it's a personal decision. You don't have to shovel sunshine. Hence people live in FL and CA and accept the risks of hurricanes and earthquakes. I could have stayed in Philadelphia, and been safe from those threats, but faced the risk of being white and targeted for violent crimes.
Man if you have a dog with you you better go to a shelter if you live on a boat. I wouldn’t feel bad for you, but for you to possibly put your dog in that situation is borderline crazy
sustained 20 mph bursting at 40mph. Maybe he should just lean into the wind for dramatic effect. It's so awkward listening to these " news anchors" Nobody believes you guys anymore.
It's not really that hard to drive out of the Florida Keys. Category 3 storms are not unprecedented. We've all seen and heard what happens to people who stay in the path of a hurricane. I've little sympathy for anyone who does not head the pleas of the Governor, and rescue personnel.
Even days before meteorologists predicted to go up to category 4 and as it got closer predicted to go up category 5. Wide as hell storm yet people were shocked and not prepared for it smt. Can't be serious. Especially those who didn't prepare for it to slightly shift....that's what hurricanes do they shift and it usually happens at night. They have models for most likely path and least likely. Florida surrounded by water on 3 sides, basically built on swamp and marsh land if not on the best or next to canals....yet people in Napals cry about the 'unexpected flooding' smh. Everyone and their grand ma should have known places were going to experience flooding from the rain and the sea. Or Fort Myer saying they didn't expect the eye to move. The water receeded and people walked along the sea bed....smh and yet they still have the courage to say they didn't know or expect anything. Just ignorance.
Rating, and advertising money. Ever heard the expression "If it bleeds, it leads"? Ratings drive advertising money. The higher your ratings, the more you can charge for advertising airtime. Ratings = ad $$ = salary. Hence all the hype, drama, and drum beating. People get a charge out of being righteous. Why do you think "Racism" has become such a hot topic? Its all about the $$$. If they talked about everything being peaceful and calm, would you watch?
He was obviously mentally impaired. There is not one good reason to stay on any "Key" or barrier island during a hurricane. That's just stupid. Even folks from Kansas could tell you that. Giving stupid people a greater voice doesn't change that.
I’m watching the Key West radar. Now it could just be a wobble of the eye. However, it looks like this storm is making a turn in a line towards Naples. The National Hurricane Center only issued a hurricane warning for Naples just an hour ago. Naples already has bad weather and can’t evacuate people at this point. The NHC would be absolutely crucified if this hurricane makes a direct hit on a city that they just now put under a hurricane warning! This could be one of the biggest wrong predictions for a hurricane in decades if this makes a direct hit on Naples!
I am here in Naples, we already had at least 1 tornado touch down and honestly I have always thought this was going to be a direct hit on Naples, the storm was always in the path of Naples and not one f*cking station has said anything about it. I pray we don't get a direct hit but I am fully expecting the worst. Sadly.
We’re in Orlando. I pray for those who are near water, as well as everyone in the hurricane’s way! I pray no hurt, harm or danger comes to us, and there’s very little to no damage done in our city. Everyone stay safe! The rain is starting to pick up as of 10:05 pm!

How many hours has he been standing out there?
How is this newscaster going to get out of there!
They say the wind speed 125 per hour
40 mph? That's less than 18 m/s, it's not even a storm. A storm is 24.5 to 28.4 m/s (by a strict meteorological definition).
