I lived in Key West for 26 years. It's the most beautiful place with the nicest people I've ever experienced.
What made you leave ken
@@scrapiron6870 No reply!
Appreciate the kind words Ken, im in my 50s, lived up north all my life, jobs come and go no pensions, no family. I'd be happy bartending or something regaining my soul you have any ideas, thanks
@@scrapiron6870 Real estate prices and hurricane fatigue.
@@scrapiron6870 Employment is easy to find in Key West but affordable housing is not. Bartending is very lucrative, and locals call the bartenders "First responders". I'd recommend that you visit the island. Peak season and peak lodging prices run from Valentine's Day through Easter. You may want to avoid it. Staying in a guesthouse will bring you closer to the feeling of residing there than a hotel might and meeting guesthouse owners is a good way to start networking. Anywhere within a 3-block radius of the library is a good central location and is within walking or bicycling distance of everything. Cars are unnecessary. The "Key West Citizen" is the local newspaper and is available online. Good luck.
the drive to Key West is stunningly beautiful and restores the soulful energy to the maximum.
This is free or you have to paid for this highway?

Super! Thanks for answering
It really does restore energy.
I SO agree with this. In 2015 I did a road trip from Baltimore MD to Key West. From Orlando on and ESPECIALLY through the KEYS i almost wept, I was so at peace!!!!
I have lived in the Keyes since 1981 the best place on earth to live,Remember when you come to visit to take a deep breath slow down you are now on island time enjoy the experience!
I lived on Big Pine . I too moved there in ‘81. Left in ‘87. Also was a caretaker with my parents of camp Wesumkee ( the Girl Scout camp). I love the keys…
Been to the Keys twice...It seems like after you've been once you are always trying to get back. Such a laid back vibe. Key Lime pie...OMG!
It haunts you.
You are so right. That first trip is never the last.

@@jennymacallan9071 haha, good friend of mine who travels says the keys is for tourists. I guess ill see.. be going there in 1 month
bro the keys sucked ass.. lol amazing.. everything was gated off.
Watching this reminded me of how old I had become (80) I traveled all of those old, closed to traffic bridges many times. Walked the beaches, and camped wherever we felt like. It sure has grown since the 50's and 60's, but where hasn't. Nice to see it all again.
And I imagine how fun your adventure was. Have nice days Sir.
Many places on this planet have changed even in my lifetime.
Now everything is catered to the tourist ??
I guess that includes me if i visit these places.
Now it's a case of Endless amounts of guard railings to stop people enjoying many areas we walked without any concerns ??
But i guess as time has gone on people have become more hopeless ??
I used to love it when my family would drive down to the keys. Of course then it was on the old bridges, it was the 60's. My favorite place to swim was Bahia Honda. The water was warm and calm. But I have to admit, I don't miss the humidity.
This place is kinda like a tropical paradise in the US, for sure!
I highly recommend this drive going to Key West . Going away from Key West to me at least is sad because my vacation is over ! I've been fortunate . Driving the ' old road could be freightening at time due to the narrow lanes .In 1966 I experienced the Over Seas highway the first time . The ' new " bridge is wonderful . I am very happy that they left the " old " bridge for the most part . The train tressel that was left at Bahia Honda is a wonderful reminder of Flagers railroad . It a must see in the USA.
It's !
Bucket list drive for sure...
Agree. I was there for my 21st birthday in 2005. It’s a place to visit. Big change from Los Angeles. We stayed at the galleon resort in the marina.
You mean it is.
From Sri Lanka 🇱🇰 after GTA 6 trailer...❤️🔥
I went to key west for my honeymoon last month. Best time of my life. I love the FL Keys
It's crazy how you go from the untamed wild Everglades to a tropical paradise it's amazing I love trips to Florida.
I love the Florida Keys. Driving down was the most relaxing time I've ever had. I camped on the beach side of Bahia Honda State Park. The most beautiful sunrises I've ever seen. We woke up early and walked down to less populated beach and saw dolphins swimming close to the shore. You can see so many stars twinkling at night and so many falling stars. I love the short overnight rain. We had to close the top of our tent a few times during the night.
Duval St. was cool but my favorite part of the Key West was the architecture and omg the flora. Tropical flowers that I'd never seen before. I drove around admiring people's plants and fruit trees lol.
The sun, the air, the color of the water, I just love the feeling this place invokes in me. One of my regrets is not stopping at Anne's Beach to wade. Wish I was driving down there now.
I'm not sure how this got in my recommendations but thank you. I needed this. 💖 The Keys!
Thankyou for the nice words, yep I completely agree. Most people miss the new boardwalk at Anne's Beach because of all the trees.
Love your description. I went on my honeymoon several years back. Loved the architecture and flora, as well.
Sounds beautiful

You haven’t seen stars until you go to the northern Abaco’s.
You gotta go to the Keys at least once. But once is not enough. I love that drive. One of the most beautiful places in the world.
Lived and visited since 1985-2003. The most magical times of my life! Beautiful, peaceful, inspiring. Just perfect! ❤
Was just in Key West a couple of weeks ago and wanted nothing more than to stay. Such beautiful scenery!!!!!! I shall return.
Very true, thanks for sharing.
I said that same thing in March of 2011, I set a 10 year goal to sell it all, and move to the Keys and buy a new set of problems. Just got one more child to get graduated. :) #FLKEYSORBUST
Key West has become an overpriced tourist trap. I lived there in the 70's...no cruise ships, no crowds on Duval, no Margaritaville, but JB was there then. Hit the Panhandle up around PSJ, the only real Florida left.
@Trees so true and he also said take care of your spiritual life, then the rest will come after. Not to live the world because we're not from the world. Don't build treasures on earth, since you won't be able to take them with you and build your treasure up in heaven; so when you die, you'll live a luxury life in heaven eternity, since the world is only for a short time. People do it backwards, want to live a luxury life on the earth that is for a short time and forgets that after they die; there destination after death, could be either heaven or hell and to get into heaven, you got to live like Saints.

One of the best drives for ur soul is from Miamis international Airport to key west. So therapeutic it took me 5 hrs when it should have been around 3. I loved it.
This is my to do list and great that you are happy with the drives. How long were the drive?
@@711Arigna it takes around 3 but i kept stopping at the bridges with my mouth on the floor. there are numerous amazin longgggg bridges....stopped and ate...it was just great lol

First time i was in Key West was in "68......I was 5 thou lol......second time was 2 weeks ago. Wife and I had a blast. Won't wait that long again!! Nice vid !
I grew up believing that Florida was heaven on Earth... And when I finally got to visit Miami in 2003 to go on a cruise, I stopped the car in the middle of the highway just to literally kiss a Palm Tree near the state line.... I fell in love with Florida and didn't want to leave after our cruise was over... Needless to say, we came back to sucky ass Eastern North Carolina and I haven't been able to go back to Florida since... I would give anything to live in either Miami or Key West... But, I would take any where in the southern half of the state... If I never see another cold Winter or a snowflake again, it would be too soon! Florida will always be Heaven On Earth... To me!!
You’re nuts. Sucky NC? We’ve got tons more to offer than Florida. Only thing better about Florida then NC is no state tax. We’ve got beaches and mountains. And we get to experience all four seasons. And the best road 9n planet earth for riding motorcycles. The Dragon. Oh and by the way. The best college hoops in the nation. Take a trip to the OBX. You get to drive on the bridges over water just like in the vid. Just because you haven’t explored N.C. doesn’t mean it sucks.
@@1EVILZ06 😂🤣I live in OBX... Been here for sixteen years and I love it here! I lived in Cherokee for a year and hated every damn day of it! Ears popping alone was enough for me to hate it.
I love the beach.. I love Dare County! But, I hate winter! Anything below 70 and I'm bitching.... Go figure since I was born in December in New Jersey....😂 I lived in Melbourne, Florida for a few months in 1991 and didn't want to come back to NC. I fell in love with it, but we had to come back for family matters and never turned back.
There was something about, Florida that grabbed my heart. The warm weather, the people, the beaches, tourism, and yes, even the Palm Trees.
NC is alright... But, it's no Florida! I've lived in various parts of NC in my life and hated every one of them, except the Outer Banks.
@@PaulJGorzkowski Dude I like all four seasons personally. Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas if it’s 75 degrees out side. That’s just me. Beach’s & Mountains and you’re complaining about it being chilly? Come on dude. Best college hoops around. (Go Tar-heels). If you like Florida what ever floats your canoe. Don’t get me wrong Florida is nice when it’s January/February. I remember leaving here in NC in January and snow was on the ground. Landed in Miami and it was 80 degrees. All in all to me it’s a nice vacation state. But wouldn’t live there. The summers are just stoooopid hot/humid. I love the OBX and the mountains. Best motorcycle roads in the nation here in NC. I’m in central NC so it’s 4.5 hrs for me to get to either one. And I also like that we’re central east coast. Can one way it to Mia/NY.
@@1EVILZ06 I'm not into sports, so none of it sways my decision one way or the other. I love it stupid hot. It's easier for me to cool off than it is to get warm. Hot sunny days, I love!! Cold gloomy days, I can't stand. And I can't stand snow! The only ice I like, is in my tea or ice chest full of beer.. lol.
To each their own.... I know people that would live in Alaska if they could. Me? I want to hottest place on earth.. Like I've been told many times... I would be that one person, who would be just fine in hell.... lol
@@PaulJGorzkowski Those jersey winters messed up your head...😂 Snow/ice are evil. 😂😂😂 Its all good bro. Hope ya eventually make the move Florida...cheers 🍺
I've done that drive to Key West from Miami once, and it's the most beautiful places I've been to here in the U.S
How long is the drive??
Awesome thank you I can't wait I'll be their from March 5th 6th 7th and leaving on the 8th
@@ortega8724 It's like a 120 miles, but we took our time to get there. There is, or used to be, a really good seafood buffet on Islamorada island worth trying.

We just did Key west to Miami 3 weeks ago. Flew into KW, stay for a night, drove to Key Largo and stayed 2 nights then flew home from Miami. I agree, beautiful drive, scenery, fishing, water sports, etc. I would highly recommend!
I was stationed at VAQ-33 FRAMP for 3 years. We loved our time in Key West. My oldest daughter was born there.
my mom and dad were both stationed there and im the older daughter who was born there but i have literally no memory of key west and i wanna go back so i can know what it like but my dad is now stationed in california and were super far lol
@@isabelletorres6435 I spent a year at Coronado, North Island onboard the NIMITZ. 2001-2002. They were filming "Antwone Fisher" and I met Derek Luke when I volunteered to be an extra.
When I lived in south Florida, we'd venture down to the Keys. One of the most memorable trips to Key West, is when I took my parents there, in a convertible. So glad I did
I was stationed in the Air Force between 1980 and 1983. It was the best time I ever had. I still see pictures of Key West when my brother stops there on a cruise. It brings back many good memories. Great food and many things to do and see. Thanks for the tour.
Were you at Homestead?
I lived there from 1989 to 2007, mostly in Marathon, but I lived on Big Pine Key a couple of years, lots of great memories, it's like home to me.
I am a native Floridian and as a boy back in 1967 my family traveled to Key West. I remember a couple of gas stations and some rickety old motels. We camped out on Turtle mound, Bahia Honda, the sand knats were terrible at night, horse flies were bad too. We saw native indians walking along the roadside and the bugs didn't seem to bother them and I wondered why. Wow! It is amazing things change in just 50 years!
HAHAHAHA...BUGS! It must be in the blood! Many indigenous people are not tortured by bugs! I'm glad my Dad had much Lenape blood and I don't get that many eating my flesh! As a kid I used to get greenhead fly bites and not really notice them until the blood ran down my legs..LOL. I still like skeeter nets at night! I was stationed at Key West in the Sub service until we went to the yards and I was out.... Dad died in Cape Canaveral. I miss visiting paradise!
Its the food we eat. Natives ate clean, healthy, local.
yes many changes and NOT for the better, i have lived here for about 43 to 44 years and been coming to the Keys for about 55 years, to bad it did not stay the same as in the past
wow
Indians are from INDIA!!.. we Are Native People... More specifically The Seminole or Miccosukee People... NATIVE INDEPENDENCE!!!
I loved Key West. Didn’t have time to visit everything, but it was an experience of a lifetime.
From Harrisonburg, Va.
Took a trip down there in 1971 with my brother got a flat tire late at night on the old bridge in Marathon. A nice man with his girlfriend drove us many miles back to our campsite (so kind) got the tire fixed the next day. Always wished I could thank that young man again for helping us. Married now many many years later I haven’t been back but Key West has really been built up. My wife Diana really wants to go so hopefully one day we will. Great video.

I love this video! I live in Omaha Nebraska , i met a guy on social media in 2012 , we became friends. In 2014 he found out that I needed a kidney. In November of 2017 he and his wife drove from Oologah Oklahoma and he saved my life with a donation. In December 2018 I bought my first motorcycle, in March of 2019 my brother and I loaded our bikes and met Sein in Oklahoma waiting with his RV , we loaded the bikes in his trailer and set off for Daytona bike week, after a couple days riding in central Florida we parked the RV in A campground just north of key largo and rode to Key West! This is a bucket list item for me and was one of the most amazing experiences in my life . Back home it was 3’ of snow and we had 85° i Key West. 5 hours?! You must have either stopped along the way alot or you drive 20 miles per hour. Its 130 miles from Miami, if you do the math: driving at 50 MPH, you would get there in 3 hours tops.
I’ve been driving down to the Keys from where I live in Fort Lauderdale since I got my drivers license 20 years ago and I must say, this video has a wealth of information for those new to the Keys. I’m getting ready to head down to Key West in two days and I’m so excited (despite having just been there two months ago) I must have watched this video half a dozen times in the last week 👍

hey visiting what are some good beaches u recoment for swimming and relaxing?
@@Brsrafal The drive to Key West is separated by Overseas Highway. The whole way down to Key West you'll have the "ocean side" to your left and the "bay side" to your right. All the residents in the Keys refer to every business as being in the ocean or bay side, and the mile marker their business in located on. I think most people prefer to swim on the ocean side. I would recommend stopping at the Postcard Inn when you get to Islamorada Key and having and lunch or ordering drinks to use their beach and pool. I think they'll let you do that, but you may want to call ahead and ask. Alternatively, you could continue down Overseas Highway for another hour and make your stop at Sombrero Beach which in is Marathon Key. Their beach is open to the public. The final Key is Key West and they are not known for their beaches, but some of the resorts have beautiful man-made beaches. Always ask lots of questions about the beach before you book your hotel.
u lucky duck 🥺 i live ACROSS THE WORLD in las vegas, nv & would love to visit a place like this, jeeez, even just florida for that matter 🤥🤕🤙🏻 but it shows a lot when theres so many comments from people IN florida that are talking about saving up to go & visit the keys, probably a hard question to answer but how expensive is it? if you could let me know a safe amount to save up for a single person for idk about a week? or per day, whatevers easier. i’d like to take a family vacation out there sometime & that would likely be 2 kids (6 & 3 but they’d likely be at least a year older by the time we were able to go) and 2 adults, if there’s anything wrong with that plan like idk the kids being too young or not a lot of family activities/it being more of an adult vacation location (living in vegas i’m all too familiar with that and wouldnt want to take my kids somewhere they wouldnt enjoy) please feel free to be completely brutally honest! thank you so much!

Cant wait to experience this in GTA 6
My husband and I were just in Key West on Nov 1 and enjoyed an amazing lunch at Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville Restaurant. What a beautiful day!
We'll have to check out that restaurant as well. Doing a new video of FL Keys within next couple of months.
Very helpful video for my family's first visit coming up soon!
We'll be doing another video within next 3 months, that will be even more detailed.
I've driven there 3 times all the way from the Washington DC area, lots of fun .
I drove to Key West from Vanderbilt Pa. 13 times in the last 17 years 20 hours straight there 1375 miles!! Cant wait to do it again!!
I’m in Bowie Md and I think I’m going to take that drive.... thanks
@@topdog8678 Jyst make sure you have a spare driver lol
Its tiring on the way back .
We've driven from Canada.
Really enjoyed that!
We're visting fo the first time in May of 2020. Can't wait !
Enjoy! It’s paradise without a passport. Get ready to spend $$$ but, it’s a lot of fun and renewal for the soul
You'll love it, May is a great time of year.
I was there.. and it was breathtaking!
First time to Florida in the 1960’s, I got my NAUI certification at the Carl Gage Diving School, and my parents headed to Key Largo, and John Pennekamp Park, where we saw coral and enjoyed diving in the warm, clear water. Many years later, we visited friends in Tavernier. Beautiful place!
We just did this drive today from Miami to Key West. It was amazing. Bahia Honda was great. My daughter had a great time playing in the water. I've had this drive in mind for the past 14 years or so, and I'm so glad that my wife, daughter, and I had a chance to make the drive today. The only thing I'd do next time is stay a night or two in Key West. Due to the drive time back to Miami, we made this a one day trip from Miami. I feel there's a lot more to experience so we'll make sure to spend more time in the keys when we come back to Miami.
thanks for sharing, if you havent seen them yet, check out our brand new videos of FL Keys and of Key West just posted yesterday
Hi! How long was your drive from Key West to Miami? Planning on making a trip to the Keys in December. Thanks!
@@khae_g hello! The drive for us was a few hours. I think around 3 hours but we stopped at Bahia Honda and some other keys along the way. We did the back and forth trip in a day. I wish we stayed atleast one night in key west! Doing a one day back and forth felt a bit rushed. Looking back there are other things that we wish we saw. We're going to do the drive again soon too. Have fun and if you have any questions or need any tips feel free to reach out!
@@MarkT923 Thank you so much!
@@khae_g you're welcome and have fun!
Idk why RUclips recommended this but I’m
Not complaining😂 this is kinda cool
SAME! They know I have been wanting to go back.
Amazing edition
I did enjoyed the key west the water was beautiful and i stayed at a little motel and the pub bar great atmosphere ..
The best video of Florida ever!
Thankyou for the nice compliment.
I’ve always wanted to drive on this highway
The have an ultra marathon a 100 miles to be exact it goes from key largo to the end off key west so I rather do that.
I did it twice, it's amazing place.
Do it. I was never really interested in years past until I was kinda forced into going. Glad I did. Been doing it every other year since. So many places to eat, stop and see along the way. The scenery is amazing. The only sad part is driving back from key west heading back to the mainland.
You HAVE to!!!!
@@lowspark3958 I'm not so sure about that according to multiple lists and experts the country with the best drives in the world is the USA (So this drive have a lot of competition). 4 in the Top 10. 1 in California, 1 in Alaska, 1 in Hawaii and this one in Florida. Only country with more than 1 in the Top 10. The longest bridge in the world is also in the USA more specifically in Louisiana. In my opinion the best drive in the world is between this one in Florida, the Coastal California drive and the Alaska mountains drive
I did that tour back in 2016 form key largo to key west, now watching your video I feel like going there now.
That must be delightful to follow that bridge to Key West and Key Biscayne.
What an amazing video! Thank you for this amazing virtual journey! Hope I'm able to witness it myself some day :)
Thankyou for the nice words.
