With OXENFREE II arriving tomorrow on the Nintendo Switch, I couldn't but go back and replay the original! Is it still worth it in 2023? Let me know what you think in the comments! Thanks for watching, liking and subscribing!
I just picked this up in the recent sale, currently $1.99 in the US. Sounds like an absolute steal given the positive feedback and 9/10 score. Can't wait to start it!
Picked it up a few days ago in the sale. Not played much so far but what I have seen I have loved. It is really good at creating atmosphere and the natural conversation mechanic is where it really shines. I played enough to know I needed to pre order the sequel for the discounted price.
I loved it on Xbox. Beat it again on switch. I sat down expecting to turn it off in 5 mins after getting it for free on Xbox, but went through a whole 5 hour playthrough in one sitting
100% recommend. One of the first games I played from the eShop on Switch. The multiple, time sensitive dialogue options make the game feel so dynamic and your choices consequential.
FYI the mobile version is free to download for Netflix account holders. Just started playing it this way and I’m intrigued by the game/story so far. It’s my first point & click adventure game ever, so curious to see if I’ll enjoy this genre. 🤓
Hope you have fun. I remember enjoying the first game but it's been so long I don't remember much. Already downloaded it from Netflix as well. About to dive in! Lol I actually came to this vid as a recap for the first game before playing the sequel.
Fully recommend this game as well, without reservation! This is a masterpiece. I bought it on a whim a couple years ago when it was at a deep discount. Frankly, I was really unsure I did the right thing as I usually don't go for that kind of games, but boy was I wrong to doubt! The game sucked me in immediately with its atmosphere, and although it indeed became creepy quickly, and downright scary at some points (like really scary, despite, or maybe thanks to, the simplistic art style, the scares were all the more effective), I just wanted to go further. Only did a single playthrough, but I definitely want to go back to it someday, try other dialogue options that I had been tempted to choose during my playthrough. Also, as Alex mentioned, you have a limited time to choose a dialogue option, and not reacting *is* effectively an option as well, which means you only have so much time to think up which answer you'll give to a character's remark or question, just like in real life. Add to that that you can walk and talk at the same time, and it makes the game feel much more realistic than it looks like at first glance. Really, one of the true masterpieces of gaming on the Switch, and I can't wait for the sequel!
I played this years ago and liked it but i remember hardly anything which is the only hesitancy i have in getting the sequel. Feel like id have to replay the first to understand it.
I came across a couple of glitches playing this and it was enough for me to put it down and not go back to it. Otherwise, it’s atmospheric and enjoyable.
The soundtrack is incredible, you got me wanting to play again. That’s this genre though in my opinion, it either really clicks or you don’t get the hype around a game! Been there a few times myself
I feel bad as we had alumni work on this game so i gave it a shot, but its just a boring walking simulator to me. I realllllly hated how conversations just get clipped any time you interact with anything and you can't exactly ask them to repeat themselves. Just not for me.
I just bought it on sale. These RUclips commentators must be sponsored because this game was NOT worth rhe $9 I paid on-sale. I was honestly on board during the first 2 hours, but literally at the 2 hour moment I realized that "this was it", I became very frustrated. To make it worse, there is NO physical aspect to playing this game. I'll say it again, there are NO physical skills to the game. It's narrative and any movement is, and does become not only bothersome, but time consuming and lame. I stopped responding to answer choices as I learned that it would move lame conversations forward faster,-) (pro tip!) It's interesting for awhile...and then becomes absolutely lame when you have to run across a map that doesn't and has never provided any physical challenge. It's truly flawed and I will NOT buy the Netflix funded second game.
Ps...the fact this revieweer says its one of the best games on the system!?!!?! This is a weak cell phone game at best. This is definitely NOT one of the best switch games. Really? Lol Drop this reviewer.

I only just played oxenfree in 2023 for the first time, pre-ordered the sequel at discount, can't beat that
Love to hear it, I'm psyched for the new entry!
@@SwitchCorner you and me both! Great channel btw!
Thank you!
I feel this is a game that will always be worth playing.

Nice! Picking up the sequel tomorrow?
@@SwitchCornerdefinitely. I barely ever do day 1 buys but I’m buying this for sure
I need to go back and finish this game. I probably get Oxenfree II
Well worth it!
I have seen this in some sales I think, I will consider it for next, thanks for showing how it is
FantastIc review. I was on the fence, but now I'm sure I want to play!

This is definitely a game I watched someone play years ago and I don't remember it to much. One day I'll have to pick it up
Bought this for a few quid upon your recommendation. Nice story with dialogue choices
Im playing it now on my phone via netflix for free
I agree with your score, I loved the original.
This is a great game. Cant wait to play the sequel
the game is like almost free, it's a crime 😅
Couldn't agree more!
Is this game really as good as they say? I am interested. But that's because it's on sale right now.
To buy or not to buy..
I think it's a great if you like something with a focus on the narrative!
I played this years ago and liked it but i remember hardly anything which is the only hesitancy i have in getting the sequel.

The sequel has been designed so no experience needed with the original - I think it’s gonna be a few references but can stand-alone

You know, I think I remember hearing that.
Great.

Oxenfeee has more endings than Vailguard
There are just some games that you keep replaying. This is one of them.
I think it's worth it.
Hopefully it's better than Kentucky Route Zero
You didn’t like Kentucky? I thought that game was amazing
@@SwitchCorner yeah I couldn't get into it

I liked the story and art style but hated the annoying characters.
I didn't mind the characters! You interested in the sequel or did that put you off?
@@SwitchCorner I'll still give it a try for sure

Fortnite is the best game on the switch.
Wish I would’ve bought the Switch physical when it was available 🥹
Yeah that’s worth a decent bit now
