- Return of the Living Dead Part II is quite interesting. It's very similar to the first, but feels more like a kids movie at times. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Let's bite in. #Returnofthelivingdead2 #zombies

I laughed out loud when you called Brian Peck a scumbag....so true.
🧟 glad you checked the movie out. I love the movie it’s a comfort film for me.
I can definitely see that brother.
I would love to know your thoughts on haunting of hill house by Mike Flanagan.
Incredible series. 😊
Not a masterpiece like the original but still definitely a fun sequel.
Indeed.
Mathews and Karen came back as different characters tho but definitely was confusing
I always viewed it like an evil dead 2. A quasi remake skewering alot more towards comedy. Its not bad, the first is just much better
That’s EXACTLY how I view it.
Return of the Living Dead is such a classic 80’s horror flick. If you’re looking for a fun B horror zombie-thon then watch Return of the Living Dead 2 & Night of the Creeps back to back. Can’t go wrong.
Great double feature!
This is my favorite out the bunch. I watched this as a kid as much as other kids watched Disney. It is easily in my top 15 horror and number one in zombie movies. Thanks for doing a review I don't ever hear this movie getting much love anywhere
I've met three actors in this movie during theaterical showings,Marsha Dietlen,Dana Ashbrook, and Thom Matthews. The first time I saw it was at a premiere of the movie in my hometown (same as Miss Dietlen)that was quite a thrill. Second time was an anniversary showing with Dana and Thom as guests, and after the movie was over the first thing they said was "Well that was from the director of Meatballs III"
I saw this film about three months ago. I thought it had a few decent moments, but in general was nothing special. Personally I prefer the original Return Of The Living Dead. Obviously that's just my personal opinion, and if other people really love this film, that's great.
One of those housing communities going up was a big part of the plot of Poltergeist, which also featured James Karen. Has Lee ever covered the original Poltergeist? I'll have to look for it.
Yes! Spielberg did so many suburban tales in the 80s. I haven’t reviewed Poltergeist.
Suzanne Snyder was in Killer Klowns too!
She runs a wellness business online and looks great for being in. her 60s.
She was at a convention recently. She looks great!
Really like this one it. Like the characters and so campy and fun
I don't think I ever saw this either. I totally remember loving that VHS cover at the video rental store. Saw first and third, I'll check it out. When I was young I thought the Return movies were related to Night of the Living Dead.
The thirth was my favorite... Melinda Clarke's Julie is one of the most impressive and absolutely beautiful zombies I've ever got to watch on screen. 😊
I absolutely ADORE part 3. Almost as much as the first.
Don't worry about finishing up stuff for the sake of finishing them. You put up a ton of great content as it is!
Thank you Michael!
This was the first “Return of the Living Dead” movie I saw as a kid, and I enjoyed it for what it was at the time, but for me, this is the one of the three that really didn’t age well. I also saw Part 1 while I was a kid (my childhood overlapped with the 80s and 90’s and I lived near three really great video stores), maybe a year or two after I saw part 2, and part 1 really stuck the landing for me-still one of my all time favorites. The second one has some decent moments here and there, but overall and in a lot of ways, it just feels like a tired discount version of the first film, even right down to the score that was used (a big mistake not to use the original trio in theme but, instead, make what ultimately sounded like a knockoff of it-same complaint I have about the score to Robocop 2). The first one had the magic in it that showed how much passion went into making it, and I really would’ve liked to see a proper sequel that maybe even had some continuing characters who survived the bombing.
Love this movie man, it’s a classic. Pre Twin Peaks Dana Ashbrook in this one. I see it as an alternate version of the first one too, probably by design ? That’s why I think I liked it so much. It was like a recreation of one of our favorites from just a few years back
Return part 3 is my favourite of them. There is just something about it for me.
It’s almost equal to the first for me. Love Melinda Clarke.
Ironically, this movie and the first were my childhood, except where the first gave me nightmares, this gave me grins. And who doesn't enjoy seeing the local bully get fried? 🙂
It might be wonky looking back, but it's still fun, and the song Flesh to Flesh is a certified banger!
I used to wonder why they brought back the 2 characters from the original. Looked into it a couple years ago and from what I could gather a production company or individual requested it because of their popularity in certain foreign areas. Forgot details but it is kinda interesting
OK so couple things
1: the original sequel ideal from what I remember was to involve the survivors trying to escape the zombie filled city or something? like using Freddie as a Zombie shield or something I DO Think that was turned into a comic
2: if I recall right the reason those two actors came back for ROTLD Part 2 was because they were SO POPULAR in Japan
and 3: Recently whilst browsing the web I found something called TRASH's REVENGE - Return of the Living Dead Universe, an Indiegogo fan project thing with Linnea Quigley involved?
I can't imagine never seeing this movie back when it came out and now seeing it in 2024 for the first time. I know a lot of people that didn't grow up watching the movies I did and they watch them now and they hate them all and I said man you just had to be there. This is one of my favorite sequels of all time. Yeah, when I met Tom Matthews in 2016 he said he do not like this one and they basically just showed up because a Japanese company gave them more money to do the movie. Ha.
I enjoyed this movie and still watch it occasionally; it was fun to hear you talk about it. I just learned(after how many years) that there is a PG13 version of Passion; always learn factoids watching your content.
Yep. I remember the promotion for the Passion “Recut” as it was called.
Only saw this a couple times in high school haven't seen since then I need to watch all 4 again in order
First Return of the Living Dead. Is Certainly in My Top 10 Favorite Movies of all Time. The 2nd one was not . But it was Still Pretty frickin GOOD.
Yeah, this, the first, and third one I bought years ago in October, and in January bought the 4th and 5th ones because they were cheap. I've not seen the 4th or 5th ones yet, but this was indeed the first Return of the Living Dead movies I saw when I was a little girl. Later on checked out the 1st and 3rd ones. And yeah, at least the first 3 of these I do enjoy. I'll find out someday after I watch the other 2 if I like them as well. Anyways, enjoyed this video. Thank you, Lee.
The first time I saw it I didn't like it because it had too much comedy. At the time modern horror comedies were rare. But I was entertained by it. Good review and cool video Lee!👉🙂👈
I've watched other videos and it is consistently said that the movie only earned its R rating because of the zombie who is split in half, and because you can see his spine. But the scene you cited definitely makes more sense.
Yeah that scene with her chewing intestines is definitely R material.
I watched this many times growing up! " Get that darnn screwdriver outta my head!!!" Best line in the movie lol! The effects are great!! Thanks for your great review! Cheerio
Same here!
That scene and when they just cut back to the pet shop and the zombies are attacking animals. You don't see much but all the animal noises, etc. LOL
Thanks for watching!
Great review Lee I feel kind of the same about this movie it's like a cult classic that I just try to have fun with.
Exactly brother.
Always used to watch this as a kid I enjoy the first one more tho
Might be my favorite of the return movies I have a soft spot for it.
I really like the first three.
Great review! Unsurprising that I loved this one as a kid, but now...not so much. Still have nostalgia for it, and it definitely helps that the Shout blu-ray has the theatrical score, because that score on the DVD was awful!
Brenda's death always bothered me too, it felt like the writers didn't know what to do with her or them.
According to Suzanne Snyder she was told to have an orgasm look in her face for the scene. And then the terrible ADR right before she was killed was weird.
Classic!
I hadn’t watched one of this dudes videos in a while and I just noticed he looks a lot like Rick Grimes
I saw this as an 80s kid. Not great but fun on the level of The Gate and Ghoulies II, imo.
It's not better than the original, but it was a decent lot of slapstick humor 7/10 ☆☆1/2
Nice Review
Mr. Lee
Love this movie. First saw it on tv in like 2003...the Michael Jackson zombie was the spookiest thing i ever saw hahah
The Thriller video is MUCH scarier than this movie haha.
@DrumdumsMovieReviews oh yea. Thriller always scared me when i was a kid 🤣 the michael jackson zombie in this movie was decent 🤣
I like part 2 i just wished we had a 4k remaster like the first living dead film done by scream factory. Yes its not as good as the first film but i still enjoy it just as much as the first film i watched it when it first came out and now i am an old man and i still watch it today.
I do prefer this over part 3 as i just found that film was lacking in zombies and its a slow paced film its the last half hour of the film when it picks up for me. Maybe one day we will get all 3 films in a limited 4k box set with proper nice art work like the german media book as i think they look good and done a good job with them shame the booklet wasn't made for english language as well.
Thank you Mr. Harrington. 🎉 i just love this movie
This is actually my favorite of the five!
liked it when I saw it in 88 , saw it again in 5 years ago liked it overall but bored at some moments ,
like you said man , the kid that plays Billy was awesome in his role
This one was more of horror comedy in my opinion.
Sad the sequels just weren't as good as the first three.
Love the music in this one. When I upgraded my VHS copy to DVD man was I disappointed, the songs were put in different scenes, some had been cut out, the score was just terrible. And by the time I noticed all that I had already gotten rid of my VHS copy. So thank you Scream Factory!!! 🤘
Yeah the music is fun.
I didn't expect to like this movie as much as i do. The original is much better in every way of course, but this is one pretty under rated sequel to me. I still have alot of fun with this movie for sure.
Agreed!
I love these 1st 3 movies! They're so bad that they're awesome! The Sci-Fi channel used to always play these late Saturday nights. I watched this one when I was a kid & that bully kid scared the crap out of me!
Anyone who hasn't seen the documentary about this franchise should go check it out!
I’ve seen the individual docs that are on the Blu-rays. Need to seek out the all inclusive.
Absolutely love ❤️ this film! Of course the original Lorimar VHS or LaserDisc and the Scream Factory Blu-ray are the best ways to watch the movie. This movie had some scripted scenes that really would have been cool on film, making it a real equal to the original, but they leaned too much on the intentional comedy. The movie was rated R and definitely earned it, with all the makeup and gore (really just missing the buckets of fake blood). Yeah, they weren't too into it as far as Karen and Matthews were concerned, some say that they basically had to be in the movie so that the people paying the costs of the movie would pay for it. Doc Mandell was amazing in his role. I never really seen it as a kids movie first and foremost, but as one having kids in it. Never was supposed to resemble the first Tarman, different barrel, different zombie.
Interesting point about Tar Man.
This is a really good film its hilarious and just so awesome i loved how they brought back the leads from the film before and i had a blast watching it. ... LIKE THIS JOB!!!!
Lee, you mentioned the bully in this was a great villain and it made me wonder... have you done a top 10 creepy/evil kids yet?
No but that could be fun!
Just a fun 80's horror/comedy. For some reason I never pull this film up for a rewatch: Compared to The Evil Dead 2/Phantasm 2/ or Pet Cemetery 2. To me; the Gold standard of 80's camp horror - Night Of The Creeps. I do really enjoy the rock soundtrack for Return of the Living Dead 2;though.
Night of the Creeps is gold standard. I love it so much.
My first Night Of The Living Dead movies was Part 3.
Nice! I'm definitely getting the recently discovered director's cut.
The second one is pretty much a retread of the first, but it has a banging soundtrack. 🤘😎👍
Yes love the soundtrack.
I really enjoy the 1st 3 Rotld movies.
Review Lucio Fulci Zombie
I’ll have to get a decent blu ray copy of this. Still have it on VHS. It’s not a bad film although some of the acting is a tad wooden in it but it’s a worthy sequel. Still prefer part 3 though. 🤘🎃🤘
Decent review, man, although you are a bit more forgiving that I am. I saw it once at a sneak premiere in NY, and did not like it at all. I tried watching it again last week, after seeing Christian discuss the difference in versions, but I could not make it more than 3/4 of the way before turning it off. All I did was groan.
I remember hearing something about the funding coming from Japanese investors requiring the Bert and Ernie Characters to return to guarantee their investment. Apparently the two characters from the 1st were literally big in Japan.
Return Part III is wicked!
Interesting!
Your done it's over no more return of the living Dead well after 4 and 5
Wait minute who's the President ahh Harry Truman. Haha
pretty spot on with this one..if im being honest i not a fan of any of the ROTLD movies. I know..sorry..lol..
I never got on with this one but I will rewatch. I think the 1st one is a classic but part 3 is my fave. Parts 4 and 5 are meh and cheap. I'm really surprised nobody has tried to remake the first. Then again it would lack the 80's vibes.
I must say the 3rd is a trapped on an island for me.
Unpopular opinion ☝🏽 I haaaaaate Return Of The Living Dead 2
But I admit, if the first movie didn’t exist I’d probably like it more
It's a fun🤩zombie movie.
@drumdums Love your video! It’s a good enough follow up. But it’s by far the weakest of the 3. Would you be interested in doing 4 and 5
I didn’t even know there was a 4 and 5!
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews 4 is Return of the Living Dead: Necropolis and 5 is Return Of The Living Dead: Rave To The Grave!
You're right that Part II is trying to be funny. And it looks like it's trying to be funny. The original was just naturally comical when it needed to be. The trio of James Karen, Thom Matthews, and Clu Gulager are funnier in pretty much every scene they are in than anything in Part II.
I just watched it 3 days ago, it was hilarious 😂😂
Also you don't need to review FD 4&5 they aren't as good as the first 3.
I didn't even know there was a 4 and 5 haha.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews
You mean before you mentioned them in this video?
Wow lee I hoped you enjoyed it...but it needs trash always she should be in every one of these movies right? Lol this one is funny goofy Michael Jackson thriller zombie..kid does look evil but if the 2 knuckleheads they should've had trash.. lol
I had a decent time with it for what it was.
Movie is a joke compared to the original
Lee, you got a review of part 3 out there?
Yes I reviewed part 3. Love it!
A less funny remake basically.
Haha dude yes! I remember watching this on the sci-fi channel as a kid.
It is a good one.
There are only 2 Return of the Living Dead movies imo and this one is a far more fun viewing than the better 1st movie. Don't get me wrong the original Return of the Living Dead is a classic. It's punk rock to ROTLD 2 which is pop new wave to me. Saw this as I did the 1st in the cinema when they were released. This film was really a comedy and I loved it's corny parts so much. The absolute best gag was when the zombies are electrocuted and for split second u see a Michael Jackson full Thriller outfit dance across the screen. I know a lot of people really like the 3rd film but I hated it. Way to serious and I was looking for the schtick of having Thom Marhews and James Karen appear in the 3rd film like they did in the 1st and 2nd films. It's just a fun horror/comedy film.
