I’ve always thought the aesthetic of this movie was very underrated. It’s very 2010’s sci-fi, but Len Wiseman makes it work. You’ve got me ready to bust open my Total Recall (2012) steelbook, Lee!
I can tell you why no one talks about it. It's not that it was bad, I love the actors in it, both still in their prime then, decent director. 5 minutes after I walked out of the movie theater I forgot about it. In fact it wasn't until I saw your thumbnail that my brain clicked, "Oh yeah! I forgot that movie even existed." If you've seen the Arnold movie a zillion times since the first day in the movie theater my brain at least, only has enough time for this version while I watched it. Once I walked out of the movie theater, Arnold's Total Recall slipped back into place erasing my memory of not only seeing but of this version of the movie existing at all.
The robocop remake is pretty good too honestly i like that he was doing detective work in that film and they maintained his relationship with his family in that movie also the subtle commentary of fascism and imperialism in America is awesome
Thank you, sir! I've been back and forth on this movie for so long, now I'm totally watching it tonight. I couldn't find any video review that defended or convinced me to see it ever. And I was also planning on seeing the Robocop remake a weeks fews ago but passed. Kudos!
Wow I watched the theatrical version about a year ago and I actually liked it a lot. Now I wanna see the director's cut because that Ethan Hawke stuff sounds really intriguing.
Well, this worked out. Needed something not too long while I wrapped up the last game on my list for my gaming session, and low and behold, here it was. 😉 Yeah, glad you liked it and all, but this is one we'll have to agree to disagree on. For me, I just found it boring compared to the Arnold version, much like I found the remake of RoboCop boring compared to the original, so yeah, both those remakes, in the words of Hulk Hogan, "That doesn't work for me, brother." But if liked them, all the best to you. Anyways, thank you for this, your timing was great on when you posted it, Lee.
Great video Lee! I’ve always thought it was a solid movie and it works better when you don’t try to compare it to the original, because it is a completely different movie. Speaking of remakes, another Colin Farrell remake that deserves another look is Fright Night(2011). I’ve always felt it never got a fair shot. It’s actually really good.
I think I found at Goodwill a Total Recall 2077 and I thought that was the remake of which I remember nothing. Then recently I found another Total Recall and this time it's the remake. It's a Blu-ray set that has the theatrical and unrated cuts. Of course I watched the unrated version. And it's not a bad sci-fi/action movie but it pales in comparison to the original. But I still enjoyed it. Good review and cool video Lee!👉🙂👈
Okay so...I have the theatrical cut on Blu ray...and I STILL haven't watched it lol. I love the aesthetics, the designs, the tone of the trailer etc, I just keep forgetting to put it in and watch it, so I may need to do that soon after seeing this review, but I really want to track down the Director's Cut.
I actually enjoyed the Total Recall remake with Kate Beckinsale and Colin Farrell. The story wasn't as strong as the original, but I thoroughly enjoyed the action sequences and visuals. Definitely looking forward to Len's next film Ballerina, which is a spin-off of the John Wick franchise.
@@DrumdumsMovieReviews not Mad Max. I meant the superhero movie based on a mattel action figure. Chris Stuckmann reviewed it and its my favourite review from him. The reason why I want you to review Max Steel is because you reviewed Sorority Row and I plan on writing a horror/parody that you might enjoy. I might invite you for a test screening.
I remember when this came out and everyone knew it was going to be watered down to get a PG-13 and the director promising that the film would absolutely have the 3-breasted woman, couldn’t believe they pulled it off. Colin Farrell makes ANYTHING watchable!
Finally !!! I was waiting for this review and I could finally rewatch this movie. I saw total recall many years ago and remember not liking it very much. After many years giving it a 2nd chance……. The movie is definitely NOT that bad. I really enjoy the fact this movie is different enough from the 1990 movie. It’s not a copy and paste of the 1st movie, it’s not the horrible remake of psycho, shot by shot remake etc. i like this version of total recall is different enough. If I wanna watch a movie like the 1st film I’ll watch the 1st movie goddamn it !!! What I enjoy the most about this 2012 movie is the production design, it looks PRETTY, the design of buildings and vehicles is amazing and honestly considering the 125M budget of this movie the visual effects look pretty good, sometimes noticeable but not bad. The performances are very good and obviously Bryan Cranston was hired because the success of breaking bad around that time. The soundtrack also fits with the mood of the movie, I like the little references to the 1st movie despite this isn’t necessarily a remake it’s just a different take on the same plot, I like the references to the 1st movie such as the 3 breast woman and the “2 weeks” scene, I really like how the movie breaks our expectations in that scene, when we think we know what’s gonna happen just because we watched the 1990 movie the 2012 version breaks expectations and that’s good !!!!!! I really like the chemistry between Colin farrell and Jessica biel. I really enjoy the action sequences in this, nice cam angles, good editing you understand what’s happening and my fav scene is the flying car chase in highway. This movie is not as memorable and doesn’t have the same level of humor and ESPECIALLY ambiguity like the 1990 movie. I love the ambiguity of the first film, but I don’t think it’s even fair to compare both movies because they’re completely different despite the story is kinda the same. This movie is worth watching. My rating is 8/10.
Haven't checked this video out yet because I'm currently watching the Euro's but I got to say now that this is an up hill battle you have picked here. The original is just to good for so many reasons.
I finally watched this movie today with my mom on blu ray and I did like it but it does have its flaws tho and I will get into it soon and Douglas Quaid played by Colin Farrell he did a good job as the main character in this movie role and he was awesome for this film and he was so badass as this character too and I really did like his performance in this movie too and Lori Quaid played by my girl Kate Beckinsale she did a great job as a side character villain in this movie role but she was barley in this movie too but she still did a good job when she was on screen tho and she sure is so incredibly sexy as hell Lee bro and she is goddamn gorgeous too and I’m always a huge fan of her love her to death Lee and Melinda played by my other girl Jessica Biel she did a great job as a side character in this movie and she was badass as this character role and she sure is so incredible sexy as hell bro and she isn’t so gorgeous too as well and I’m always a huge fan of her now too loved her to death Lee and Matthias played by Bill Nighy he did a great job but he was barley in this movie though but he still did a good job when he was on screen though and Bob McClane played by John Cho he did a good job too but he was barely in this movie though but he still did a great job when he was on screen tho and Three-Breasted Women played by Kaitlyn Leeb she did a good job too but she was barley in this movie tho but she still did a good job when she was on screen though and she was badass as this character too and she also in Wrong Turn 4 Bloody Beginnings 2011 Lee and she did a great job in that movie too and she is so sexy as hell brother and she is so attractive and gorgeous too and I’m a huge fan of her now too love her to death man and Harry Bookem Woodbine he did a great job too as well and he was so awesome for this role and he was badass as this character too and he was so funny in this movie too and finally Vilos Cohaagen played by Bryan Cranston he did a great job as the main villain in this movie role and he was badass as this character role and he was so awesome in this movie too and can’t believe it’s been 12 years now since this movie came out now and that’s insane it’s been that many decades ago now and I was 17 years old when this movie was released in theaters back then and I was a senior in high school at the time and I sure do missed those good old classic days back then and time sure does flies in the movie world that’s for damn sure Lee bro and overall I’m gonna give Total Recall (2012) Remake a 8.5/10 stars i really did enjoyed this movie but could of been little bit better if it had some sexual nudity for a change and have the movie be little bit longer too and didn’t not like the ending that much but to do prefer this one over than the original film but that’s just me tho in my opinions and thoughts on this movie Drumdums brother bro
Lee the main flaws with this movie is it removes all ambiguity is it a dream or is he awake, it’s a sanitized PG-13 Science Fiction futuristic movie which is very stupid instead of being Rated R, a main antagonist played by a charismatic great actor is barely in the movie as a main antagonist , also the movie never gives a believable explanation for why the flying cars which will run out of gasoline or can be shut off aren’t an issue since that’s a very dangerous flaw since the car will crash when dropping to the ground. The movie never provides a safety brake style feature for these advanced cars so that flaw can be avoided. Also the CGI flaws stand out like a high amount of mud on cars.
You can pick it up for like 2 dollars Blu Ray 😂 it's ok it trys to be like Minority Report , watchable but it's not a patch on the original, Arnold was amazing,
Im going to an def Leppard concert, Alice Cooper in September and an 80s rock band called 38 special in Poconos mountains Pennsylvania. Id like to wear a Texas chainsaw massacre 3 shirt because i love horror. Is it ok to do a a rock show ?
The best way to describe Total Recall (2012) is lifeless, soulless and forgettable. It’s like a hot girl who has nothing to offer beyond her looks. Just empty and shallow but looks pretty.
It's your typical Len Wiseman film. Slick production values where characters take a backseat to the action. The original had the entire package. It was a benchmark thinking man's action film. I did enjoy some of the additional aspects this film explored (supermassive gravity passage through the Earth's core), but it all sort of felt completely average by the end of it. In Wiseman fashion, it's mostly entertaining yet forgettable.
You literally have 2 of the hottest women ever in film in same movie that alone guarantees awesome. Theres soo many ither cool little characters in this movie all around its just amazing movie.a double feature would rock. U remember when this came out everyine like pick a team. Yeah you can really see the work that was put in.

Good story but goddamn they butchered Robocop, horrible suit, he was like a ninja robot.
@@adamCarter20 I've grown to like tat design honestly not as good as the original nut I like it
Get your ass to Mars.
I don't think I've ever watched it from start to finish.
Don't bother, life is too short.
I remember watching this because I wanted to see Kate Beckinsale playing an evil character. It's not a great movie, but I wasn't disappointed.
Yeah Kate was great in it.
Unpopular opinion but I like this version of the story more than I do Ahnold’s. Love the fight scene between Kate and Jessica.
Kate and Jessica were awesome in this.
The Death Wish remake was actually pretty decent
Thanks to this channel I finally am aware of this remake; I will definitely check this out based on the cast alone.
You're welcome David!
I love the og Total Recall so much that I just never gave this movie a chance, maybe its time for a watch.
I tried watching this when it aired on TV but didn't last long. Likely was the theatrical version. I may give the director's cut a chance one day.
5:45 Kate Beckinsale was a huge stand out in this remake. Good video on this Total Recall remake which I own on blu ray.
Yes she was!
thank you lee! i had watched it my homies months ago and we had a blast
Nice!

No I've never heard of it. I'll look into it. Thank you Adam!

Yeah the DC is quite solid.

Die Hard 4 is fucking awesome
No
It should be the last die hard movie for sure
Enough with the lens flares, stop! Come on man, I got 4 kids to feed.
