Randy would have been better served to have stayed in the ring but I guess that Vince felt he was too old, then again, he had Bob Backlund winning the WWF Title at 45 years of age. I'm 45. I think Backlund was about three years older than Randy. Savage should have been able to stay an in ring performer. Always felt they should have done a Bret/Savage program in '94 for the title in a three match series to pass the torch to Bret. I never thought that Randy would ever go to WCW. I just watched KOTR94 recently on WWE network when they were showing all the KOTR leading up to the 2024 KOTR, and the main event of Rowdy Piper vs Jerry the king was a pretty good match. That King of The Ring was a terribly announced PPV. I always thought the 1991 Royal Rumble was worse though. Roddy Piper and Gorilla Monsoon on commentary. It's absolutely awful. It's as though they're trying to out scream each other. There's no balance between heels and babyfaces. They're both rooting for the babyfaces. Most shows with Piper broadcasting are terrible. He tried to make kids laugh by calling Bobby Heenan "Boobsy" or "Boobs", which was never funny.

Macho, Flair, Hart and Undertaker we"re the most dedicated to the wrestling business than any other. They played themselves on screen and off. Hogan was the biggest. But he was nothing more than an act in the ring. Behind the scenes, he never wanted to do business and he stabbed everybody he could in the back. Fucked Bret Hart out of a "Summer slam" match and title in 92", pretended that "Taker broke his neck, so he could get him buried. And then came to WcW to steal Flairs heat. And subsequently robbed MACHO of an all time run.

Savage and Elizabeth had been separated since 1991 and divorced since 1992. People saying that the reason Monsoon didn't get along with Savage at the broadcast booth in *1994* is because the way he treated Liz back 3-4 years prior need to get somewhere and sit down.
Monsoon was not the type of person to carry resentment for years for a situation that wasn't any of his business to begin with. He was more professional than that. I mean seriously. You sittin' up there a grown man mad at another grown man for YEARS for his martial-issues? If I can borrow a much appropriated-line from Gorilla Monsoon, "Gimme a break."
Styles clash sometimes and it has nothing to do with whether or not you get along. There are some broadcast teams where the two people don't like each other at ALL and they still work well together.

Absolutely 100%. People like to jump on Savage because they think it makes them look smart. When all it does is expose them as Marks. My God the locker room and back stage in the WWF back then wasn't pretty at all. All types of guys, and again if people people were privy to how most wrestlers treated women they'd get off the Savage busting. Monsoon was a pro. It was simply different styles. As is obvious from just listening to both of them when working.

@@thegoughandbordenfamily8234 I'll take a pass on the second part. Liz was partying *LONG* before she got involved with Lex. You can't tell me that as much snow Savage, Hogan, Beefcake, and Sherri were blowing back in the day that Liz didn't do a line or two. Drugs are drugs. Once you get hooked on drugs of ANY kind it is a slippery-slope.
Lex _may_ have physically abused her (we don't know what actually happened so it is NOT "well documented") but she was a grown woman and CHOSE to use and abuse drugs. _That_ was on her. She ODed on Vodka and painkillers.
If you wanna say Lex beat her, I'm not gonna push back on that because available evidence leads to that conclusion, but I'm sick and tired of people getting a pass for self-destructive behavior and it being everyone else's fault but theirs. Liza was smart enough to know that alcohol and painkillers (most likely opioids) are a DANGEROUS combination. Even back in 2003 that was well known. The only blame I'll put on Lex is *IF* he beat her and that was a reason _why_ she needed painkillers to start with. However, for all we know, the physical confrontation between them could have been from Lex trying to STOP her from doing what she eventually did at an earlier time. Maybe she was already trying to mix vodka and painkiller killers a week prior and Lex was trying to STOP her from doing so and she resisted. Do, he's damned either way.
This is why we say *NO* to drugs kids.

What works in promos doesn't necessarily work at the announce table. He tended to be too left field and it never really added anything to what the other commentator(s) were trying to do. I don't quite understand the motivation behind most of these segments.
Is it to partially negate or downplay the overall career of an all-time legend because of his controvetsial nature & even more controversial abrupt & unceremonious WWE departure?
Is this their way of saying they sided with Vince?
How vocal were they then? Ever a word to Savage?
    Doubtful.
Not saying Randy was an angel or perfect by any stretch, But enough - we get it, not everybody liked him.
No need to keep piling it on this many years after the man's dead & has no platform or vehicle to defend his position.
Randy wanted to be in the ring, & Vince - prematurely - put him out to pasture in broadcasting/announcing. There was friction about it.
    So, realistically:
How good could you possibly have expected it to be?

Add to it that he had a piece of the then WWWF ownership when Vince Sr was running and making additional $$$$$. When Vince Jr took over until the day he passed his deal was his weekly guarantee plus every WWF town that ran including PPVs he received opening match $$$ which could be $200 to $400 or more per night and he could stay home with the family.
