IMPROVING AIKIDO TAI SABAKI USING A JO | RIAI METHOD

  • The Riai ('blending of truths') method of Jo Tai Sabaki put together by Sensei Dunken Francis (Aikido Silverdale) to help improve body movement or Tai-Sabaki. All the moves are taken from existing Jo kata and suburi. Using the Jo exaggerates the movement and helps the practitioner to monitor any inconsistencies in their structure or bio-mechanics.

    It’s good to see how the “warm up” movements transfer to the weapons techniques.

      Thanks, we wanted to put in place a way to get people moving St the beginning of weapons class that reinforced the idea of "Riai". I'm sure it will continue evolving over time but this is working well atm, especially the fact both sides are trained which is often missed in pure suburi.

      we use this as our regular warm up at the beginning of every 'weapons' class. works well
