Being a vet is challenging, so I wanted to capture some of the great bits and share it as a reminder to myself in those difficult times, to keep helping others out there, to help encourage you to pursue your dreams as well!

🐄 Who am I?
I am a recent veterinary medicine graduate from Cambridge university, one of the Chief Mentors at Vet Mentor, and currently in small animal clinical practice. I make videos to help pre-vet students get into veterinary school, how I am surviving new graduate vet life and trying to be the best version of ourselves.

How do you manage to build up the communication skills to break the bad news to the owners when something bad happens to their pet or when you are euthanizing them. I’m currently working as a vet assistant studying to become a veterinarian but one thing I noticed is how the Dr. I work for manages to know exactly what to say every time and how to act and react in these situations. I am definitely not prepared for that😭😭
My picky dog will not eat for me as she basically only eats for me. I have made her her favorite meal and gave her her favorite treats. She will not eat somebody help me. 😢😢😢😭😭😭😭😭. She ate for me yesterday.

I do have questions. I’ve been thinking about going into the vet industry and going to vet school. But I’m just afraid that I might get depressed seeing hurt animals everyday or having to put them down/telling the owners. I am very sensitive but I’ve always wanted to work with animals, do you think this could be a job for me?
Hey im a vet student too and while it is a hard job it can be very rewarding. You are there to help, to make then feel better and not be in pain. You don't have to work in a place that sees alot of trauma. The average clinic sees average pets and very few trauma. Theres going to be tough moments. Depression and compassion fatigue is the highest in this industry. Not everything is rainbows but if you can make the small things add up and helping animals everyday, you can do it

When studying veterinary, is it in general or is there like regular and exotic animals sections? Because I would like to become exotic veterinarian, I’m in 11th grade highschool right now and am looking for collages
The reason I want exotic is because my whole life I was around exotic animals, owning tortoises, baby and adult geckos, frogs of 2 species and an iguana (rip).

What kind of vet are you?
I want to be a vet one day! I've earned lots of credits! I just love animals more than anything and have a passion for them. I want to get those sick or injured animals better!
It would be fantastic to see more Vets take a natural approach to medications and treatment for our pets as opposed to what currently is. I know many do not seek treatment from Vets in my country because of the over-priced procedures/medicines charged. And some do not even allow a payment plan which means our pets unnecessarily suffer due to a lack of affordability. It seems that the love of money has overridden compassion for not only people, but our pets too.

I just recently went to a veterinary work experience ( I am 15 btw) and I loved it so much and I appreciate what they do for our household pets and the wildlife. Hopefully I will turnout to be an exotics vet in the future (for my rabbits ofc) fingers crossed 🤞
