- 29th April - 1st May 2022 saw the annual Bristol Model Railway Exhibition, at Thornbury Leisure Centre.
The show featured no less than 30 visiting and clubs layouts and dioramas in a variety of gauges and scales, as well as a wide selection of society, demo and trade stands.

I always find it interesting how many British models emphasise the 'dirty / weathered / industrial' look - I suppose a more 'real' look. Compared to some of the big continental models which seem (to me) to present a more 'idealised' view of the world - beautiful fields, spotless rolling stock, immaculate stations, etc. I know this is a generalisation and there are exceptions on both sides (and EU railways may be cleaner in real life than UK ones, so art imitates life!!) but anyway, an interesting difference. Thanks for the video.
Indeed. Though as you say there are plenty of exceptions. I do love going for the 'run-down' look myself, though I'm still learning how to achieve that perfect finishing

What an enjoyable viewing I am having from Melbourne, a long way away. In the main, first class layouts: so detailed and some are weathered. But I hope to be in UK soon. Excellent video!

Tour de force indeed. But since I could not attend I would wish there was a notation of the scales used. I saw at least one Z and that lovely GWR broad gauge stuff, but could not distinguish between the EM, P4 and other 'OO' variants. Overall tho it does show Beeching was right and about 90% of the trains had no passengers which hardly makes them viable..........

As with everything at a show, that Hawksworth rake and the railcar were working flawlessly for several hours right up until they went on camera! Got the nice shots in the end though.

Nice layouts and footage. I very nearly went nut I'd already spent too much lat week and thought I would be tempted by the stalls selling stuff. I have become obsessed with Pullamans this week :)

Great video. Can someone please let me know what the loco is at 25:40 (name of loco and model maker). I'd be interested in seeing if I can buy it in OO gauge DCC.
Many thanks! Think I answered your question all ready on FB, but I believe it to be a 5700 pannier tank, possible Bachmann, but could be kit built. The current Bachmann model is DCC Ready too :)

it always gets me a little annoyed when i see a class 20 running nose first on a layout as in real life they ran in pairs at was cab first i know its only a minor point but if you asked any driver that has driven a class 20 they will say that they they operated them cab first for safety reasons, when running in pairs the configuation would be engine to engine so when the locos had to do a run round this would help with the shunting . There have been instances notably when the S class of tube trains were being moved from Derby london underground depots there would be two pairs of class 20s so to leave the driver just leaving the one cab end for the other. the only instance where the loco has been running engine first was in goldeneye and the driver/ actor would look at the window but that isn't reality that was a film
There's plenty of images of solo 20s running nose first. Most recent example was 20189 on the 'Shakespeare Express' last week
To many "Toy Train Sets" rather then "Model Railways" for my liking !!!! Which exposes the increasing lack of understanding by British Modellers, that real railways operate under a host of complex rules.
Your right! Nothing more true to operation that to be standing around for over 3 hours, watching nothing move them a model rail-replacement bus shows up... 🤣🤣🤣 Honestly...
Especially ! Hornby ! Double 0 ! And Watchmaker ! N Gauge !
