Alma Counsels His Sons | Alma 36-42

- Alma the younger talks to his sons one by one. First, he tells his son Helaman how important it is to be born of God. Alma promises him that if he keeps the commandments of God, he will prosper in the land. Alma hands the plates of brass over to him. It is now Helaman’s responsibility to keep a record of the people.
Alma then talks with his son Shiblon, who was faithful even when he had stones thrown at him and was persecuted by the people. Alma encourages him to put his trust in God and promises that God will continue to help him through hard times. Alma testifies that it is through Jesus Christ that everyone can be saved.
Alma’s son Corianton did not keep God’s commandments as a missionary. Alma helps him understand how serious it is to commit sexual sin. He pleads with Corianton to repent. Alma tells him that Jesus Christ will come into the world to take away our sins. He talks about the Resurrection, the judgment of God, and God’s justice and mercy. Alma encourages Corianton to look to the Savior for forgiveness.

In my opinion these videos are worth every cent that has been spent on them. Some of our new members (South Sudanese) who speak reasonable English but struggle to read it are watching and enjoying these and the bible videos. The Book of Mormon has not yet been translated into their language. Accessibility to these videos is significant for them - and to all of us. Could not be more grateful. (Victoria, Australia)
As a 26 year old young man who is trying to recover from an addiction, listening to Alma's words to his son Corianton really touch my heart.
I have ADHD and have listened to the scriptures for many years. Reading them is often difficult. Having something to watch with the scriptures in them helps me to really focus much better. I know they are not a substitute for the scriptures, however, it does allow me to think about what I have listened to in the past and as I combine the two in my head, I have gained a greater appreciation for the scriptures. I know the Book of Mormon is true as I have for the last 33 years.
There is no way these stories could have been made up. They are true. The Book of Mormon truly is Another Testament of Jesus Christ. 🙏 Pray to know if it is true and come unto Christ.
Looking the comments make me happy. As an LDS (Member of the church) I feel the same way, and I remember what parents always say: "The scriptures have a lot of power, The power is from Christ above..." Me watching one video everyday gives me energy to do all things I need to do. Reading the Book Of Mormon really builds up my faith in the lord.
Alma is such a great example of a parent. Compassionate towards Corianton while counseling one troubled child. May I be blessed to have such characteristic.
This is what i am going to do when i will become a father. Alma the younger is one of the example of a loving father, a good teacher and has the ability to discipline his children in a good and proper way.

Alma is a good father for all his children. His teach to all his son to obey and passion and follow Jesus Christ 💗💗💗
I realize that Alma the younger desires to be with his family, his children in the celestial kingdom. That motivates him to counsel them do keep the commandments of, to be worthy before and faithful unto God. I also have the same desire.
Watching this, when Alma said “wickedness never was happiness,” it occurred to me that he was talking about his own past wickedness. It never hit me like that before, but he really was speaking from painful personal experience, not just about wickedness in general.

Hearing these chapters and not just reading them really makes a stunning difference.
This one really touched me. Alma was so bold and clear, even (and maybe especially) with his family, and he was full of love. I want to be like him.
I love the relationship Alma has with his sons.
How connected I was to Alma striving so hard for his sons to keep faith and not fall into sin. Every parent knows this heartbreaking task, especially when one of your own steps away into the sins of the world.
