My grandmother, born in the 1920s, has complained many times since I was a kid about having to fill fountain pens in grade school and getting the ink all over herself. It's fun to see the innards of a pen similar to what she used back then and its filling mechanism!
My Sheaffer snorkel is very nearly at its 100th birthday. It’s lovely to write with though I rarely do. It’s spent all of those 100 years in my family.
I would say it has a bit more still to go since the snorkel came out in the 1950’s
A few decades, but it’s well over the half way mark@@HistoricGentleman
I can't help but think that the body of this pen could somehow be restored to its original green color. The damage is probably only a few molecules deep and the right polish might do the job. I don't know anyone who would be willing to try, but it's fun fantasizing about how the pen would look with the two halves both showing that lovely green color.
Unfortunately, it’s impossible. The green celluloid parker used at the time is especially prone to discolouration. The barrel discolouration is full depth, as it was caused by primarily by the latex sac outgassing.
I have a pair of jade green seniors in my collection made in 1926, both with original nibs and Christmas tree feeds. Both write exceptionally well and since they were properly restored should last for many more years with regular care. Most replacement parts are also readily available.
That flex!!!!
I wish you would've showed how to clean the pen so that it doesn't rust
Nice pen. I have a modern Duofold and it is a beautiful pen. Would I buy a vintage pen from the 1920's? No. I have used one and the materials are very fragile plus the possibility of drying out is a high probability, especially with the cap having a hole drilled in it
