    You've killed me dropping bars in the intro. You've got the key that makes the AE86 faster in downhill: body weight. Car weight dictated how fast you can take corners without slowing down, less weight means less inertia therefore more "agility" for cornering at high speed. The AE86 is a small RWD car with notoriously bad grip, making a natural drift machine for driving style like Takumi who is pushing the car in a corner faster than it can grip. Drift racing is about pushing the car near losing total control, showing off drifting use the handbrake for initiating the drift, therefore slowing you down in a race.

    • @JayKReacts
      @JayKReacts  2 года назад +3

      Lol had to drop bars on that beat. So the weight seems to be the biggest factor in this race. It makes a lot more sense now drifting wise. Thanks homie!

      I wouldn't exactly call it bad grip... Even though you're 100% correct. It's just that it's a hard car to handle🤷‍♂️

    ok so the word "understeer" is the opposite of "oversteer">drifting.
    this means that the front tires are sliding straight as u turn.
    imagine that u turn the steering wheel on either direction u wanna go, but the car is still going straight ahead.
    u want to turn the car, but the car is still going straight to the wall because the front tires are slipping/skidding.
    so in the word "drifting" the idea is to make the car oversteer>you're making the rear tires slip/slide.
    i don't think this spoils anything, but just give's you a better understanding of the geometry of a car.
    and by "settings" on what Bunta says (takumi's dad), he meant the suspension settings.
    By adjusting these set ups, u can make the car do what it needs to do on a certain or specific corner or just this specific road in general.
    the idea is to make it go faster without doing anything on the engine.
    suspension settings can go in a much deeper topic, like you can make the car bouncy or stiff, camber adjustments, etc... and a whole a lot more about the car's wheel alignments.
    Certain types of "settings" are for certain types of racing, or roads, corners, comfort>for normal daily driving .
    On a straight up drag race, Takumi's AE86 is definitely gonna lose coz it's slow.
    Just like how Ryosuke explained on how his little brother lost. Keisuke's RX7 definitely has alot of power especially with turbos installed.
    but they are not being used on this mountain road because there are just too much curves or corners.
    so you're always slowing down. You're not using the full potential of the engine.
    So the battle really here is how fast you can pass these corners. And reason why drifting got invented and got so famous in japan in this time of the anime. around the 90's.
    Skills and knowledge are being honed instead of just paying for fast cars.
    This anime shows really did a good job portraying types of car guys. rich and poor.

    11:10 susan bell -my only star
    His father made the car understeer, so he use less angle while drifting. Since drifting with too much angle will wear the tire out quickly and make it hard to control at the later part of the course. With lower drifting angle he can safe more of his tire.
    R32 is a heavy car in downhill gravity pulls it down or (you know what i mean). That's why the car will need to brake heavily around the corner,which will wear his front tire.

  • @thaik56
    @thaik56 2 года назад +5

    Easy tip to understand the difference: Understeer means the car is turning less than the front wheel angle ( front tire slipping ), oversteer is when the car is turning more than the angle of the front wheels (rear tire slipping).

    Understeer is when you turn your wheels sharp when going fast and they lose traction and slide, making the car not want to steer. Drifting is basically just controlled oversteer, and usually understeer is a bad thing, it’s what front wheel drive cars are infamous for. Oversteer can be controlled (drifting) but generally understeer can’t be, all you can really do is slow down and/or straighten the wheels out so they re grip the surface

    • @JayKReacts
      @JayKReacts  2 года назад

      Ooh Im not sure if it was understeer but I dealt with something similar in my camry, it's mad scary. So basically Under = Bad Drift. Over = Controlled Drift. So he messed with his settings to make the oversteer better I'm assuming. Yalls knowledge is infinite, thanks bro

    what is Understeer you ask? when you drive a car and you turn the wheel all the way to the right or left, what happends is that the front tiers are so sideways that the car still goes strait becaus the tieres dont grip up. Its the oppisit of Oversteer (drifting) basicly.

    • @BigMacIIx
      @BigMacIIx 2 года назад +2

      @@Aclasher360In drift racing style, you initially brake grip on rear wheel drive with engine torque alone, then you control how much under or oversteer in the middle of the drift with the gas pedal. In corners at high RPM my AWD Subaru is understeering on engine brake and oversteer pushing the gas, which makes it fly like a hovercraft on snow.

    I know you love to hate on Nakazato but he is in fact not trash. As you saw in the previous episode, a long time ago he drove an S13 (same car that Iketani has), and he COULD drift if he wanted to but when he met with the GTR for the first time he pushed his car beyond it's limits, and that's why he crashed it. After the R32 beat him and his drift, he believes in only grip, and think's drifting is slower. (Which in real life is actually a true statement, that's why you don't see racecars drifting in a corner.)

    • @JayKReacts
      @JayKReacts  2 года назад +1

      Lol he is a tiny bit trash tho. Ahh im just kidding bro! The thing is when I'm watching something so good I sorta get immersed as if I'm in the show myself, sometimes I say words like "Yeah I'm here" as if I'm the main character. It's also why reactions sometimes get too serious or too happy at certain parts bc I'm in their shoes as I'm watching it. Sorta like how a kid watches cartoon. So I definitely respect Takeshi as a racer, but I'm probably gonna hate on anyone Takumi goes against next. Even Ryosuke, if he wants the smoke too! He's definitely a fire opponent to go against next. I actually really like the fact that someone that doesn't drift is going against Takumi, it makes these races so different to watch! And I actually didnt know drift was slower than the traction. Learning a lot as I go thru this series. Thanks man! Let's get to the races!!

    well, drifting isnt the fastest way on a corner in some motorsport. Rallying heavly uses it because of their different types of road. Gravel, Dirt, Snow and etc. Gripping on them while maintaining a high velocity are almost impossible

    • @JayKReacts
      @JayKReacts  2 года назад

      Interesting facts. I always thought drifting was faster, I guess it does make sense when I think about it. Straight traction and speed would be faster. So drifting is just an invention for if your car can't speed with traction.

    2:28 nailed it. Gripping well through corners is actually very hard and ask for a lot of skill, but drifting (specially like takumi does) is even harder and super fun. Like that rollercoaster that aways manage to give you that goosebump regardless of how many times you do it. Is funny how takumi won't feel anything drifting uashuhsuahsuha
    edit: Also gripping through corners with an awd car like nakazato's r32 is easier, those type of cars are crazy fast at corners and feel like they're glued to the asphalt (hence why my fav is Lance Evo 4).

  • @gigachad-2399
    @gigachad-2399 2 года назад +1

    Well yeah driving without drifting requires skill. Drifting only works for low speed corners when you don't have much grip. You'd never see any form drifting in professional racing because it simply not effective. Taking a corner at high speed always requires you to make steering and throttle adjustments, AWD or not. In the long run Nakazato is correct. His way of driving is more suited to circuits and that's exactly what the GTR is supposed to do as well because it's technically a race car. As you'd go throught Initial D you'll see less and less drifting. After third stage there's pretty much no drifting in the show.

    • @gigachad-2399
      @gigachad-2399 2 года назад +1

      Personally I love the First and Fourth Stage the most. Firs stage is more like a introduction to Touge racing,it doesn't give much insights into how racing techniques work. The fourth stage is where you'd actual racing with proper explaination of techniques.
