pro tip: when they show you the dashes, it's for a reason. if you watched in this race you could see nakazado's speed going around the corners and then you can see takumi's speed going around the corners. you can also see where nakazado's boost gauge is and what it does right as he sounds out. boost = power added, the 1.0 on the gauge is about 15psi which is about twice the power added by the turbo, 1.5 would be 150% power etc

ABS is a system that keeps brakes from locking up when you step on the pedal too hard. In simple terms it works as if someone were to apply the brakes a bunch of times extremely fast instead of one solid application. basically all modern road cars come stock with ABS so your camry definitely has it (as does mine)

Well it might go out eventually like on my 04 lmao. Funny thing, for the first couple years before I learned about cars I thought that all cars locked up when you floor it completely, so it actually did train me not to lock them up when braking hard. Made driving cars with abs feel like a video game lol
It's kind of difficult to explain it. In high speeds you can still brake fully but the more the car slows down the more the downforce wears off, so the tires contact patch decreases and if youre still fully stepping on the brake at that moment it means the tires have no other option but to lock up. Abs only helps so that you can stop fully without locking up, but in races its not as useful as it sounds and is pretty easy to cope with. What pros usually do is just ease off the brakes a little so that the front tires can breathe. Im saying that because i used to really think its as easy as locking up when you brake over a certain threshold thats constant.
Btw Takeshi wasn't playing dirty, he left no room on the inside at first so Takumi would go outside. After Takeshi saw Takumi go on the outside at first he then gave more room on the inside(from stepping on the gas for a faster turn) which Takumi then switched back to the inside and overtook Takeshi

In Japan they use the km/h system and not the mp/h system. So if the tachometer shows 100 they are going something about 60 mp/h. Just so you know. The AE8x is the chassis code. Itsuki has AE85, with 1.5L single cam engine, while Takumi's AE86 has 1.6L twincam engine.

Here's a little trivia for you: After Itsuki ran away from the gas station we see Takumi followed him outside, and we follow him right? So what was the people back in the gas station doing? Well in the manga/comic, after being scolded by the boss for mocking Itsuki, Iketani and Kenji actually discussed on buying a second-hand DOHC engine from the scrapyard to upgrade the AE85, as a way to apologize to Itsuki. This part was cut away from the anime, but I think it's a great example that they actually also cared about Itsuki too.

Simply put, without ABS your brakes lock up. which makes your car go straight forward with 0 Grip. with ABS, you can brake without worry, but since Takumi doesn't have ABS, he has to use the brakes to the precision that they don't lock up, kind of like his own ABS. Also, ABS stands for Antilock Braking system.

What's not really shown, but implied is that the redsuns and to a lesser extent the night kids have coordinated teams that are serious about racing so they coordinate runs and battles, the speed stars are just some friends with decent cars that made a team for fun but aren't really serious as shown by their lack of knowledge

EDIT: 27:48 ABS pretty much allows you to steer and brake at the same time. If you don't have ABS however, you're brakes will lock up and you will understeer. Takumi therefore had to turn then accelerate for a split second, then turn again, and then accelerate again and so on. Makes it all the more impressive.

driving without ABS basically trains you to brake more effectively than ABS can in high-intensity conditions. My car, despite being more modern (04 camry, yuck) doesn't have it, and i've figured out where the "biting point" for the brakes is as a result. I've had someone say that i brake like a circuit racer.
ABS is light years better than a human could ever brake. Is it useful to know how to brake without it? Of course. Just figured I would pipe in to clarify before some bozo comes in here saying he wants to pull out his abs fuse.

I'm not saying to yank out your fuse, you never should, but knowing how to brake without ABS can make you a better driver in the long run because of the nuances and finer control that ABS can take away from you. I just happened to learn non-ABS braking because my car never came with it in the first place. it was optional back then.
@@penguinmaster7 That is unfortunately just not the case. Like at all. Abs stands for an antilock braking system. You stand on the brake pedal. Brake pressure increases until the tire begins to lock then the system modulates 100s to 1000s of times a sec to effectively threshold brake better than any human ever has and ever could. On top of that abs can brake each wheel individually which a person can't do unless they rigged their car up with 3 more brake pedals and grew some more legs. The only thing you lose by having abs is the ability to lock up your wheels for very specific scenarios in driving in which case, a driver who needs that ability often would install a dedicated hydraulic handbrake for that use case. There are some exceptions to the rule of locking your wheels being the fastest way to brake such as rally where you may be on gravel or snow. The reason that locking is better then is because it pushes material and makes a wall that slows the car with the added friction.

But he specializes and brags about his speed so i just categorized him as that, and Takumi as skill to be able to even keep up with that thing while using a car that shouldnt be able to. I'm kinda late on this but the speedometers in other countries like japan use kilometers not miles, so if Takumi's speedometer was reading 100 kilometers an hour that translates to about 60 miles per hour

What's not really shown, but implied is that the redsuns and to a lesser extent the night kids have coordinated teams that are serious about racing so they coordinate runs and battles, the speed stars are just some friends with decent cars that made a team for fun but aren't really serious as shown by their lack of knowledge

EDIT: 27:48 ABS pretty much allows you to steer and brake at the same time. If you don't have ABS however, you're brakes will lock up and you will understeer. Takumi therefore had to turn then accelerate for a split second, then turn again, and then accelerate again and so on. Makes it all the more impressive.
It's sorta like watching sports. Everyone jumps out their seats if their team makes a crazy play because they can't predict if they'll actually pull off the Win. Whereas the next day for the people who missed it, they don't watch the entire game, they just watch the quick 5 min highlights and move along because it's no longer any excitement to watching that game. driving without ABS basically trains you to brake more effectively than ABS can in high-intensity conditions. My car, despite being more modern (04 camry, yuck) doesn't have it, and i've figured out where the "biting point" for the brakes is as a result. I've had someone say that i brake like a circuit racer.
ABS is light years better than a human could ever brake. Is it useful to know how to brake without it? Of course. Just figured I would pipe in to clarify before some bozo comes in here saying he wants to pull out his abs fuse.
@@cupmaster6642 a human with proper knowledge can brake far more effectively than an ABS can. I'm not saying to yank out your fuse, you never should, but knowing how to brake without ABS can make you a better driver in the long run because of the nuances and finer control that ABS can take away from you. I just happened to learn non-ABS braking because my car never came with it in the first place. it was optional back then.
@@penguinmaster7 That is unfortunately just not the case. Like at all. Abs stands for an antilock braking system. You stand on the brake pedal. Brake pressure increases until the tire begins to lock then the system modulates 100s to 1000s of times a sec to effectively threshold brake better than any human ever has and ever could. On top of that abs can brake each wheel individually which a person can't do unless they rigged their car up with 3 more brake pedals and grew some more legs. The only thing you lose by having abs is the ability to lock up your wheels for very specific scenarios in driving in which case, a driver who needs that ability often would install a dedicated hydraulic handbrake for that use case. There are some exceptions to the rule of locking your wheels being the fastest way to brake such as rally where you may be on gravel or snow. The reason that locking is better then is because it pushes material and makes a wall that slows the car with the added friction.

I think it's better than the original boring title i had: "Takumi's AE86 Vs Takeshi's R32" lol. I think anyone that's a captain is definitely skilled. But he specializes and brags about his speed so i just categorized him as that, and Takumi as skill to be able to even keep up with that thing while using a car that shouldnt be able to. Aka better skill is what's keeping him up with the speed demon.
