I don't often watch a video and think "this man knows what he's doing" this is good work and I love the guide tool. The only thing I'd do is route the end of the over hang so it's also rounded.
It was as simple as as the thickness of the batten, the thickness of the fascia and the desired overhangs together, and that much protruding over the frame

Kind words sir. Thanks for watching 👍🏻
Finally a new video of Simon Ballsofsteel!
😂😂😂😂🙋🏻♂️ thanks for watching
If they're proportional to your upper body, you need to invest in a wheelbarrow to walk around mate!
Beautiful work. Nice to see a new video. Best wishes from Poland 🇵🇱👍😉
Thank you very much!
Great video as always Simon. I appreciate your talent and content!
Kind words sir, thanks for watching 👍🏻

Great video mate 👍
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching
Brilliant video!!
Glad you liked it!
@@simonbowler1 yes I did! Very interesting!! Looking forward to seeing more videos of some of your bigger projects. Hope all is well, take care
In lockdown I couldn't get hold any of deck tape so I used Bitumen flashing tape. Cost an arm and a leg!
As did everything in lock down!
Bro you should be on television. You come across as good as a professional presenter.
🙋🏻♂️ I’d love to be… maybe one day 👍🏻
@simonbowler1 but please...NOT the BBC!
@@waheedmalik6120😂😂😂
Agreed
Could you do a video of how you do the measurements for that final edge cut? That cooked oak looks amazing btw
It was as simple as as the thickness of the batten, the thickness of the fascia and the desired overhangs together, and that much protruding over the frame
Great job Simon. What is the glass they had in their doors, looks like mirrors. I'm guessing good thermal and privacy properties?
I’ll be honest I don’t know. The customer had the garden room installed before we got there to lay the decking.
Can flashing tape be used instead of decking tape? How about just a waterproof paint and no tape?
Decking tape is the best for the job
@@simonbowler1 I know, but could I get away with just paint and put flashing tape over it?
What’s stopping you using proper decking tape?
@@simonbowler1 I have a large area and it's working out really expensive.
Do you put tape on the horizontal top parts of the batons?
We put tape everywhere
@@simonbowler1 That deck looks gorgeous!
Did you have to get a permit and an inspection for that deck? Most places in the US allow it without permit due to its short height.
No this one fell under the height restrictions here in the UK
What’s the reason you must use stainless steel fixings for cedar?
Non stainless fixings will react with the wood and leave dark staining over time
So what happens when the wood has been soaked by the British weather for a year or so ?
I presume it starts moving just like any other wood .
One of the main benefits of thermally modified wood is how stable it is in all conditions… way more so than non thermo wood
@@simonbowler1 not much off a answer Simon.
I would think it sucks up water like a sponge .
@@grantcook5376 It is far more stable than unmodified wood. It doesn’t suck up moisture like a sprung.
Sponge ffs. Can’t edit.
Not a fan of joist hangers on decking frames. They hold water at the joints and seen them fail on plenty of old decking frames,.
Simon you need to work harder mate we need more content 🫶🫶🫶🫶🫶👍👍👍👍👍
There’s another couple coming soon 👍🏻
@@simonbowler1 that’s awesome mate I’ll definitely look forward to those 👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
That's old tec now buddy
Could you please explain what that means? Yes thermowood has been around some years.
