- Dead Giveaway (short story) by Randall Garrett
Logic's a wonderful thing; by logical analysis, one can determine the necessary reason for the existence of a dead city of a very high order on an utterly useless planet. Obviously a shipping transfer point! Of course...
Published August 1959 ~ Astounding Science Fiction
thank you
The narrator is EB from Green Acres .
Very nice narration ,the accent is very cool
I suppose it's safe to say Randall Garrett was a product of his times.
You are a product of yours and you will also be judged by future generations and be found wanting.
But there is nothing wrong with this story.

Talk much?
Disappointingly racist in attitude. I know many of these old stories will be, but possibly they should be consigned to history.
I'll admit I wasn't paying 100% attention to the story as I was mainly using it for background noise but I must have missed the part that was racist. Were you just assuming the narrator was racist because he dared speak with a southern accent? That's quite hypocritical don't you think? To assume certain ideas about a person or group of persons based off their accent and the location in which they grew up...hmmmm...that sounds a bit prejudice. Please try to get to know people first before you label them incorrectly.
Consigned to history ? Why should I be robbed of a possible good story just because you chose to have offense at something someone wrote . Do you realize you are trying to eliminate free speech . Trying to create a dictatorship .
@@jeaniecassel3188 ....PLEASE!!! While I (generally) agree with your sentiment your "logic" is in serious need of review. Calling something racist or offensive is NOT limiting speech. Limiting speech does not necessarily equate to a dictatorship either.
You want to memory hole stuff?
That's the stupidest thing I've read today.
Decent enough story, but hampered by weak narration. Hard to take an Alpha Centari story seriously when everyone sounds like they're on a cotton plantation.
You got you a problem with us here, country folks!
You do realize that the South is more than just a bunch of cotton farms, correct? If your prejudice stops you from enjoying the story then don't listen. It's not the narration that's weak.
Why shouldn't they have a southern accent?
